CHRIS HENRY & THE HARDCORE GRASS (USA)

Sat 22nd Nov 2014 – Chris Henry & The Hardcore Grass (USA)
Australian Tour
Special Guests “The Prannies” (Blue Mountains)
KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

“Chris Henry is the premiere Monroe-style mandolinist of his generation” – International Bluegrass Music Association.

Chris Henry grew up in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, USA, the son of veteran bluegrass musicians, Red and Murphy Henry. He moved to Nashville about ten years ago, and has been making quite a name for himself as one of the most highly regarded and sought-after young musicians on the American bluegrass scene. He received an International Bluegrass Music Association nomination for Song of the Year in 2011 for writing “Walking West to Memphis.” He was in Shawn Camp’s band, and in the last few years he has been playing with his own band, The Hardcore Grass, and with the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band.

He impressed Australian audiences when he toured here earlier this year as a member of the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Trio. As a result of that tour, he has been invited back to Australia to headline the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival this October.

Chris is touring with his own four-piece band, The Hardcore Grass, consisting of himself on mandolin and vocals, Mike Garris (guitar and vocals) Corrina Logston (fiddle and vocals) and Beth Lawrence (bass and vocals).

As well as being a talented guitarist, Mike Garris is also a highly respected bass-player, and has recorded and toured extensively as a long-time member of the Del McCoury Band and David Grisman’s Bluegrass Experience. Fiddler, singer-songwriter, Corrina Logston, is an exciting new talent in bluegrass today, widely known for her lively and versatile fiddling, and tenor singing rooted in traditional bluegrass music. She has performed with the likes of Del McCoury, Jesse McReynolds, Bobby Osborne, Alison Krauss, and Charlie Louvin, and many others. Beth Lawrence has been living in the South for 10 years, and playing bass and singing with national bluegrass bands, including the Mark Newton Band, Ron Block Band, Jerry Salley Band, and The Daughters of Bluegrass.

Chris Henry & The Hardcore Grass is a must-see band for all lovers of roots-based music!

Blue Mountains locals ‘The Prannies’ will be opening up the night.

Tinker, long time Mountains dweller, plays fiery accordion and sings with husky vocals.
Ged Corben holds the band together with his powerhouse rhythm guitar and delicate slide and mandolin work. Ged toured extensively as lead guitarist with the Lime Spiders.
Underpinning the Prannies’ lush and powerful sound is Michael Vidale on semi acoustic bass.
The band play an eclectic uptempo mix of Celtic & American folk, with a touch of Western Swing & Roots thrown in.
They will be featuring material from Mike & Tinker’s new album “ For Good Measure”, & Mike’s solo album “ The Dining Room Sessions”.

HAT FITZ & CARA ROBINSON ALBUM LAUNCH

Sat 15th Nov 2014 – Hat Fitz & Cara
‘Do Tell’ Album Launch Tour (Oz Release Date 03/10/14)
Special Guests Chris Gillespie Music(Blue Mountains)

KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

“Hat Fitz and Cara make beautiful, raw, exciting music that never fails to grab me” Jeff Lang, Australia.

“They pack more energy, emotion and sheer musical exuberance into one song than most manage in a whole career” Spiral Earth, UK

Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson are ‘pleased as punch’ to announce the Australian release of DO TELL, their “stunning new album” (FATEA) out on Fri Oct 3 through Planet MGM, alongside news of an Australian tour and festival appearances.
DO TELL is the follow-up to Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson’s ‘acclaimed-in-all-the right-quarters, for all-the-right-reasons’, (FATEA) WILEY WAYS album (2012) which followed on from the pair’s first offering BEAUTY & THE BEAST (2011).

The delightful husband and wife duo recently landed back in Australia after 2 months away touring Canada, The UK and several other European countries, taking advantage of the Northern Hemisphere’s summer festival circuit and grabbing the opportunity to build further on the growing international profile their earlier releases and European tours had earned them. With new European management in place, and DO TELL released internationally back in May of this year, that profile has accelerated a gear or two since we last saw them live.

“Cara has a stunning voice & when unleashed in its full seductive glory it’s goosebumps time. As for Hat, his slide playing is nothing short of world class, tasteful & his grainy dusty vocals, the perfect foil for Cara’s. These guys can stomp as if it’s Saturday night in Clarksdale.” – ACOUSTIC MAG

Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson manage to keep their music fresh, vibrant and real… There’s a naturalistic feel to their songs with engaging narratives that never feel forced or clichéd… this album is a celebration of everything that is good about contemporary roots music, so forget the labels and just enjoy. ***** – GET READY TO ROCK

With the success of WILEY WAYS both abroad and at home (it was the winner of UK’s Spiral Earth Blues Album of the Year Award in 2013, and rated highly on the Australian Blues + Roots Chart), the European reaction to DO TELL was an important indicator for ‘Fitzy’ and Cara, of how their home country might also react to the duo’s re-focused musical direction, which has seen them writing more original songs and refining their sound while striving to move a little further into new genres. The response to the album and their live shows from the Europeans has been first-class.

DO TELL exhorts you to spread the gospel far and wide, a proud avowal of two first-rate musicians who may perhaps have met by sheer chance, but when combined, their musical chemistry is so much more than the sum of their parts.
DO TELL was produced by the supremely talented Jeff Lang (who also produced Wiley Ways).

Now happily refreshed, rested and primed after their European mission, Hat Fitz & Cara Robinson are delighted to finally be able to share DO TELL and perform live for their many fans at home.

DO TELL is out Oct 3 via Planet MGM.  Hat Fitz & Cara Robinson will be touring from November.

“Highly Recommended” – THE ROCKER

Chris Gillespie is an independent artist from the Blue Mountains of NSW. His songs are beautiful, bursting with observational yearning. “A fingerpickin’, harmonica playing troubadour…
‘Sydney’s answer to Bob Dylan” (Dave Regos – FBi Radio). Gillespie is renowned by his audience and peers for his songwriting craft, especially his lyrics – “Chris Gillespie is definitely one of those timeless songsmiths” – Joe Gould, (The Crooked Fiddle Band).

You can expect beautiful instrumentation coupled with meaningful and thought provoking words and “…harmonies [that] are downright gorgeous” (Tom Ballard Triple J).

The music is very Australian, highly original and delivered with refreshing honesty and integrity.
Chris Gillespie enjoyed a very busy and abundantly successful 2012 with the release of his debut album ‘Unnatural Light’. The title track spent months in the top 20 of the Triple J Unearthed charts. The song was used as the soundtrack to a short film, which was aired on Channel 9. Chris also performed live on Foxtel and was the opening act for Triple J favourite and Australian Idol finalist Lisa Mitchell.
“It’s difficult for any independent acoustic artist to make a name for themselves in the shadow of the likes of Josh Pyke and John Butler. Yet somehow Chris Gillespie pulls this off with an earthy, unadorned and folksy panache… [He] creates an intoxicatingly addictive blend of country-infused folk rock that is at once familiar and unique” (Peter Walsh Rave Magazine, Brisbane).

Chris will be accompanied on the night by Cameron Henderson (on bass) Cameron is also the guitar player from Dubious Blues Trio and Vanessa Raspa and the Zombie Cats.
