Legendary Australian singer songwriter Ian Moss, is heading out on the road on an intimate acoustic East Coast solo tour, performing tracks from his latest album, “Soul on West 53rd”, featuring fresh takes on classic soul songs from the likes of Sam Cooke, Al Green, Otis Redding and Levi Stubbs, as well as all the Cold Chisel Ian Moss classics, performed as only Ian can.

In 1973 Ian Moss joined a band that was to become a legend in Australia – COLD CHISEL.

As guitarist and occasional singer Ian’s voice began to shine through such seminal Cold Chisel songs as Never Before, Bow River (written by Ian) and a gorgeous rendition of Ray Charles’ Georgia. Ian recorded eight albums in that group’s initial ten year career, three of which were #1 national hits. Cold Chisel remains one of Australia’s favourite bands.

While Barnes remained the group’s identifiable front man and lead vocalist, Moss also added lead vocal to several of the band’s songs, the first of which was “One Long Day”, the B-side of the “Khe Sanh” single and the closing track on side one of the debut album. His vocals feature on some of the band’s best-known songs, including the hits “My Baby”, “When the War is Over” and “Saturday Night” and on “Bow River”, which Moss wrote and the track that has since become his signature tune. Moss also sang lead on Cold Chisel’s version of “Georgia” which became a staple of their live shows.

The setting had been established for Ian Moss to emerge as an important solo artist. His solo career began with a #1 album and single and five ARIA Awards. His debut album Matchbook has sold more than 185,000 copies. The album included the anthemic song Tucker’s Daughter – which Ian wrote in collaboration with Don Walker – and second solo single, Telephone Booth.

Over the course of his solo career Ian’s musical output has taken exciting fresh turns – from playing bluesy-stripped back rock, to unplugged and acoustic and classic soul songs.

Ian Moss is a dexterous musical stylist; not just a rock player, not just an acoustic strummer, but a truly seasoned and rounded musical talent.

Respected as one of Australia’s iconic musicians, Ian Moss delivers an unforgettable sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but especially with his silken voice, ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul. While primarily recognised as an axeman of unusual tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility, Ian’s distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful, bluesy muse – as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s.
