KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

British India are a garage rock band from Melbourne Australia. Formed in high school the band comprises of vocalist, guitarist Declan Melia, guitarist Nic Wilson, bassist Will Drummond and drummer Matt O’Gorman.

They have released three studio albums. ‘Guillotine’ 2007 winner of the ‘AIR’ best independent award’ ‘Thieves’ 2008 ‘Aria Top 5 debut and ARIA nominated ‘Best Independent album’ and their 3rd album ‘Avalanche’ 2010 ARIA Top 10 debut.

In 2012 British India signed a recording and publishing deal with Mushroom Music and Liberation Records in Melbourne. They have recently finished their 4th album ‘Controller’ released in March 2013 which sees them embarking on another national tour.

Their angst driven guitar pop has proved to be a winner in Australia and the band have earned their place as the indie darlings of Australia’s underground music scene.

British India’s live show is explosive and a force to be reckoned with, they have become one of Australia’s most popular live bands. They have played over 500 shows and have smashed their way through several sell-out tours and festivals like Big Day Out, Falls, Pyramid Rock, Southbound, Homebake and Splendour In The Grass to name a few.

British India emerged from the fertile underbelly of Melbourne’s independent music scene to take Australia by storm in July 2007 with their acclaimed debut album Guillotine. Their songs ‘Black & White Radio’, ‘Tie Up My hands’, ‘Run The Red Light’ and ‘Russian Roulette’ became arm-raising, air-punching anthems at venues and festivals across the country. They took out the 2007 AIR Award for Best New Independent Artist.

Exactly one year later in July 2008 British India released their second album Thieves. Thieves debut at No 5 in the ARIA Top 10 and demonstrated the band’s growth, in both popularity and as songwriters ‘Thieves’ featured the foot-stomping singles ‘I Said I’m Sorry,’ ‘This Dance Is Loaded,’ ‘You Will Die And I Will Take Over’ and ‘God Is Dead (Meet The Kids)’, this earned the boys their first ARIA Award nomination.

Their 3rd album ‘Avalanche’ released on May 2010 cemented their position as Australia’s hottest young independent band and scored the boys their 2nd Top 10 debut in 18 months, featuring one of the band’s most popular tracks to date ‘Vanilla’. Jam packed with brilliant pop melodies, high-octane rock & roll, and the lyrical genius of singer Declan Melia; Avalanche takes the garage pop which has characterized British India’s initial success to new heights.

‘Vanilla’ released exclusively to triple j became the station’s most popular download in November and gave the boys their 3rd entry in triple J Hottest 100.‘

Launching their latest album through the band’s new label, Liberation. British India return to the live scene with their much anticipated fourth LP ‘Controller’ which features the recently released new single ‘Summer Forgive Me’ as well as last year’s popular single ‘I Can Make You Love Me’, which came in at number 41 on triple j’s Hottest 100 for 2012.Controller sees British India at the height of their powers.
The album is loaded with potent drum beats and layered, exhilarating guitars, hip-shaking melodies and a lyrical genius from lead singer Declan Melia that is too often lacking in rock albums.
It is apparent on Controller that the band have captured all of the attitude, poise and swagger that made their past three offerings so successful. These 10 album tracks see British India re-invigorated, in their finest and most assured form to date.

“British India have done well to incorporate some new found musical diversity whilst at the same time satisfying all fans by staying true to the genres that got them their initial break.” – Ashley Burian: Adam Not Eve.

Live, the band are something else, their shows are a fiery, in-your-face display of first-rate musicianship, guaranteed to get you moving.
