JOE CAMILLERI & THE BLACK SORROWS Supported by the Wonderful Lives

Special Guests The Wonderful Lives

86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

Mostly arranged in a Melbourne studio over a few days in late 2010 and recorded as one-take, live, all-ins, their debut album was scratched into the wax, baked and left on the windowsill to cool. The result? As close as you’ll get to having The Band of Gold in your lounge room and calling the tunes yourself. Warm, authentic and uncovered together, this is a crack team of music-makers clocked off and kicking back.

Supported by The Wonderful Lives
“Piano, cello, pedal steel guitar, bass and drums collide in an epic
storm of folk-shanties, grimy rock dirges and bittersweet dark country tales.”

The Wonderful Lives’ debut album, released in October 2011, perfectly captures their alternative folk rock sound and unusual instrument combination. A collection of unique compositions, varying in style, emotion and intensity, take the listener on a ride from love to hate, life to death and heaven to hell.

Martinez Akustica / Victor Martinez Trio

Sat 8th Jan 2011 – Martinez Akustica / Victor Martinez Trio

86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

It is said… “Victor Martinez is one of the greatest Avant Garde guitarists ever” Victor, Andro and Dauno are father and sons. Victor, an extremely accomplished composer, teacher and leader in his field, leads the Martinez family.

Born in Chile they all play six string acoustic and electric guitar, bass and also use their instruments as percussion and vocal beat box. One minute they play in unison, the next in harmony, then across and against each other, it is calm then chaotic, beautiful then forceful. It is difficult to fully describe them until you’ve heard them. The interplay and understanding that flows through them is inspiring, endearing and infectious. They truly captivate their audience as they stretch each other’s ability with a flourish here and an astonishing variation there. Anyone! Or anyone who plays a guitar, anyone who aspires to playing guitar, anyone who enjoys listening to guitar must see these incredible players. The trio has been performing professionally since 1997 since then they have played a large number of venues around the country.

“…Martinez had an interesting approach to JAZZ and POP, highly energetic jazz laced with flamenco flair and modern improvisation by three Great Guitarist…”  – George Benson

“An extraordinary tight trio… Intricate, carefully rehearsed arrangements. A sense of playfulness and adventure.” – THE AGE

“The best guitar trio I have listened to in the last few years, Carlos Santana meets everything” – Lulo Reinhardt

“…their live show left me inspired each night of the tour. Definitely some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen…” – Michael Franti Spearhead

“….the music benefits from their intensity and passion…. so does the listener!” – Jeff Hamilton (Diana Krall)

“This is probably the greatest acoustic guitar band in the country – and yet another must-see at Bluesfest” – Byron Bay Blues Festival

“The band has an endearing, inspiring and infectious energy and it shows in their performance” – Sunday Telegraph
