VULGARGRAD With Special Guests THE WONDERFUL LIVES

Sun 10th March 2013 – VULGARGRAD
+ Special Guests THE WONDERFUL LIVES

THE CLARENDON GUESTHOUSE
68 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

The Kings of Russian crime music – VulgarGrad – are stopping in Katoomba for one show only. Taking over The Clarendon on Sunday 10 March, this will be a rare opportunity to see the elusive group in action. Special guests on the night are Blue Mountains locals – The Wonderful Lives.

Coming together on their way to the Kiama Jazz Festival and Canberra Centenary Celebrations. Polish-born frontman, Jacek Koman, is the rough diamond of stage and screen, known for his vocals on Roxanne from Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge and soon to be seen in The Great Gatsby.

Koman has returned to Australia after a long acting stint in Europe, as has guitarist Nara Demassonn, who has been touring the world with sold-out circus show, Cantina.Together with a gang of Australia’s most illustrious ex-cons drawn from The Blue Grassy Knoll, Zulya and the Children of the Underground, Croque Monsieur, Bombay Royale, and The Puta Madre Brothers, this is an extraordinary collective.

VulgarGrad play music by, for, and about Russian thieves: raucous drunken songs, inebriated waltzes, manic stomps and hot swing from the Cold War days. Be prepared for a night of gun-slinging, vodka-swilling, foul-mouthed disorder, and watch out for the biggest, most triangular instrument you will ever see, the contrabass balalaika. Wear a striped top and learn to swear in Russian, and you will dance or the trumpeter will shoot you.

Show from 7:30pm. $25.
