AMBER LAWRENCE & JASON OWN – ISLANDS IN THE STREAM TOUR

Sat 22nd February 2014
Amber Lawrence & Jason Owen
“Islands in the Stream Tour”
KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

For the first time, award-winning country artist Amber Lawrence and label-mate, X-Factor 2012 runner-up, Jason Owen join together for the Islands in the Stream tour, the title of their duet single released late April 2013.

Their youthful interpretation of this all-time classic by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton is the perfect inspiration behind their joint national tour. It also marks the release of Jason’s debut album Life Is A Highway which debuted at #5 on the ARIA Album chart and #1 on the iTunes Country Chart first week out.

It’s their love of country music and the audiences that have brought them together while both coming from different “islands in the stream”. Amber hails from Sydney and Jason grew up in small town of 12 called Albert in regional NSW.

This 2-hour show will feature Jason and Amber performing with their touring band and playing their own hits and songs as well as special duets throughout the show.

Amber is known as one of the hardest working artists in the industry and it has certainly been paying off with 13 single releases all of which have been Top 5 radio favourites including seven #1’s. She has more than 10 awards to her name including the Tamworth Telstra Horizon Award at the 2011 Golden Guitars and was nominated in the Female Artist of the Year category at this year’s Golden Guitars. Amber will perform some of her fan favourites such as Wrecking Ball, Good Girls, Don’t Do Lonely Well, Women Like Me and from her latest album “3”, Everybody’s A Mess, Man Across the Street and Try. Throughout the tour Amber will continue to promote her 3rd album which saw the fourth single released in August.

Jason Owen was the much loved under-dog that we watched not only grow up but reach great heights as the runner-up on X-Factor 2012. At 19 years of age, Life Is A Highway marks the start of a new journey for Jason, who has moved from his small country town to Sydney and is now ready to embrace a full-time career as a recording and performing artist. Life Is A Highway features songs such as Always On My Mind, Against The Wind, If Tomorrow Never Comes, and Sweet Home Alabama to name a few. The album’s collection of songs – which are eclectic in genre – are all connected by the beauty of Jason’s unique voice, and fans will now be able to experience it live.

CANBERRA COMEDY FESTIVAL SPECTACULAR
KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia

Featuring comedians Luke Heggie (Australia’s Got Talent) & The Stevenson Experience + Dave Williams!

Associate Director James Stevenson says that last year the Canberra Comedy Festival Gala sold out in less than 2 weeks! He is pleased to bring this 2 header show spectacular to the Mountains and they will also be joined by comedian Luke Heggie and MC and support act Dave Williams.

LUKE HEGGIE
Winner, Comedian of the Year 2012 – Time Out Magazine
**** Herald Sun

Luke Heggie began his stand up comedy career in 2010 at a RAW comedy heat in Sydney. Four gigs later he went on to win the RAW Comedy National Final with a mixed bag of ingenious one liners, delivered with minimal fuss and frills.

He is an efficient comic; no ostentation, no smoke and mirrors, visual, physical and verbal understatement ensue, followed by much laughter of course.

After the RAW win, Luke went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was then picked as one of the best up and comers by Melbourne International Comedy Festival to be part of the Comedy Zone in 2011.

In 2012, he was nominated best newcomer at the MICF, and following shows at The Sydney Comedy Festival, was named Sydney’s Best Comedian by Time Out Magazine.
Luke has since performed at the New York Comedy Festival, twice at the Sydney Opera House and all the major Australian and New Zealand Festivals. He has also become one of Australia’s most in demand club comics.

“Deadpan genius …one of the funniest stand ups around..” Sydney Morning Herald

“The dark, dry and understated style of his short, sharp jokes work a treat.” The Age, Melbourne.

“Commandingly brisk…relentless.” NZ Theatre Review.

THE STEVENSON EXPERIENCE
Winner, Green Faces 2011
“Hilarious, There is barely time to catch your breath between lightening quick lyrics” Adelaide Advertiser

Benjamin and James Stevenson are identical twin brothers and award-winning comedians. The Stevenson Experience deliver high energy musical comedy. Peppered with hilarious songs and their trademark sibling rivalry banter, the guitar and piano playing duo will take you on a journey through just what it’s like to be an identical twin.
At only 24 years old, they have placed in the Grand Final of every national comedy competition in Australia, and been crowned the nation’s funniest new comedians.

The Stevenson Experience were crowned Green Faces Winners in 2011 and grand finalists in Triple J’s Raw Comedy Competition and Quest for the Best. They have sold out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2011, 2012, and 2013, Adelaide Fringe Festival 2013 and the Canberra Comedy Festival 2013. In 2014 The Stevenson Experience toured both nationally and internationally, being invited to headline in New Zealand. The Stevenson Experience were selected to support musical comedy legends Tripod on their 2013 Men of Substance tour and have performed with Sammy J, Matt Okine, Charlie Pickering, Bo Burnham, Wil Anderson, Dave Hughes, Amy Schumer, Fiona O’Loughlin and many more.

Here’s what people are saying:

“Killer comedy songs, they’ll be packing houses around the country” Herald Sun, MICF 2013

“Identical twins Ben and James Stevenson have honed a slick, tight show, comprised of very witty songs with killer one liners throughout. The Stevenson Boys are very, very funny.” The Music, MICF 2013

“A flying hour of fun” Adelaide Advertiser, Adelaide Fringe 2013

“A bundle of laughs from start to finish, allowing very little room in between their lightning quick lyrics for actual breathing. Excellent, highly recommended!” RipItUp, Adelaide Fringe 2013

DAVE WILLIAMS
Regarded as one of Australia’s brightest young stars, David Williams has performed alongside some of the world’s best including Carl Barron, Wayne Brady, Jimeoin, and Stephen K Amos.

With over ten years in the business Dave as established himself as one of Australia’s most sought after headline acts. Come dressed in your 1920’s finest costume (optional)
PRIZES FOR BEST DRESSED male & female awarded at 9:30pm!

+ 1920’s films screened on to the back of the stage from 8pm! (The Acca Daiquiris start performing at 8:30pm)

The following silent films will be screened:

The Gold Rush – Charlie Chaplin (1925)
“The Gold Rush” is a classic silent comedy. It is the film that Charlie Chaplin wanted to be remembered by. The world agrees with him that this movie is a masterpiece.
“The Gold Rush” was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” in 1992.

The Flapper (1920)
The Flapper is a 1920 American silent comedy film starring Olive Thomas. Directed by Alan Crosland, the film was the first in the United States to portray the “flapper” lifestyle which would soon become a 1920’s fad.
A small town girl attends boarding school, dreams of romantic adventures, and has some.

Get Your Man (1927)
Comedy/Romance – Clara Bow, Charles ‘Buddy’ Rogers
A young American girl in Paris falls in love with a handsome nobleman, but he is about to wed in an arranged marriage. She hatches a plan to overcome that obstacle and get her man.

The Acca Daiquiris repertoire consists of jazz/lounge versions of classic hits by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Who, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones etc as well as an almost infinite variety of jazz and soul standards.

These days every age group, be they baby boomers or Generation X, have their own distinct musical tastes. What if a band was able to magically bridge those age differences and play a style of music that appealed to almost everybody. Impossible you might say – but that’s just what Sydney’s ACCA DAIQUIRIS have been doing, with great success, for the past four years.

Here’s a band that has reinvented some of the great pop and jazz songs of the past half century and given them a hip, swinging and refreshingly contemporary sound – a band for dancing, romancing, or just turning the lights way down low. It’s little wonder that the band have been in constant demand in recent years with residencies at the Sebel Pier One Hotel and the Opera Bar as well as appearances at the Thredbo Blues Festival, Taste Of Sydney and the Manly and Darling Harbour Jazz Festivals – to name just a few.

In addition they have released two excellent albums which showcase their unique ability to take classic songs such as Born To Be Wild, Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, My Generation and White Wedding and inject with both an infectious cocktail groove and a wry sense of humour.

What really stands the Acca Daiquiris out is the remarkable wealth of musical talent and experience they bring to the group. Look through their expansive CVs and you will see that they have all played with the cream of Australia’s jazz, blues, soul, funk and rock musicians, not to mention an impressive list of academic qualifications from leading music schools.

Vocalist Nick Norton is a talented all round musician, drummer, bassist and songwriter, who has recently released his debut CD and delivers some of the smoothest and entertaining vocals in town. Drummer Antero Ceschin has played with the Mighty Reapers, Jeff Duff, Jackie Orszaczky, Leonardo’s Bride, E Type Jazz and Catherine Lambert as well as internationals Big Jay McNeely, Lucky Peterson, Louisiana Red and Margie Evans. He is also Sydney’s inaugural and undefeated champion of chromatic harmonica. Pianist Tim Bruer has featured as both a solo performer and with artists such as James Morrison, Bruce Cale, Lloyd Swanton and Steve Hunter. Rounding out this highly talented quartet, bassist Geoff Rosenberg has toured and recorded with the Eurogliders, James Blundell, Nathan Cavalieri, the Mighty Reapers and George Washingmachine.
