Don-McGlashan-2018-2-B&W-sings300

One of Aotearoa’s most beloved songwriters, Don McGlashan, has announced a return to Australia for 4 intimate shows in October.

Don McGlashan is one of New Zealand’s best known and loved songwriters. His career spans from the seminal post-pop-punk band Blam Blam Blam, to The Front Lawn (duo), to platinum selling and internationally recognised band The Mutton Birds. Their album “Envy Of Angels” made the UK Sunday Times ten best albums list. Since The Mutton Birds, this extraordinary crafter of song has made three acclaimed solo albums, “Warm Hand”, “Marvellous Year” and “Lucky Stars”. His 2006 gospel anthem “Bathe In The River” – sung by Hollie Smith, has become one of the biggest NZ singles of all time.

He delivers his songs – extraordinary tales of ordinary lives – with vulnerability, grace and hope, conjuring transcendent moments, navigating us through breath-taking beauty, the dark and the deep. McGlashan has worked with Paul Kelly, Crowded House, Johnny Marr, Wilco and members of Radiohead, scored many feature films including Jane Campion’s “An Angel At My Table”, received two Silver Scroll awards and five of his compositions are in APRA’s “100 Best NZ Songs of All Time”. His solo albums are rich collections of highly personal songs exploring love, regret and mortality, infused with optimism and deep joy.

During this tour of NZ and OZ, McGlashan will be performing recent songs, along with plenty of gems from his sprawling back catalogue, McGlashan will play a string of solo shows, joined on a handful of dates by legendary drummer / percussionist Chris O’Connor (Phoenix Foundation) to give you an up-close and unique concert experience.

“A masterclass in song craft… with an inner world all his own.” ★★★★½ – Rolling Stone.
“An absolute pleasure… Rich, perfectly measured.” .” ★★★★½ – Sydney Morning Herald / The Age.
“Poetic honesty… shared with compassion. Quite exceptional.” ★★★★ – Stack (NZ)
“No one else gets close to writing songs like that, and making them work.” – Metro Mag.

Mama Kin Spender is a lightning bolt moment between two long-time friends, co-writers and mischief-makers: ARIA-nominated Mama Kin and producer Tommy Spender.
It’s a stripped back duo of brooding guitars, primal drums and howling harmonies.

Mama Kin Spender’s songs rattle, roll and tremble, from block party to heart rending ballad. With a sound that is as raw as it is joyful, Mama Kin Spender will challenge you to raise your voice in defiance of the status quo.

Mama Kin Spender have been flat chat since the release of their album ‘Golden Magnetic’ in February 2018, cramming in a national album launch run amidst shows at Perth Festival, WOMADelaide, Summersalt, Nannup Festival, Fairbridge Festival, SOTA, and Woodford Planting Festival. Fresh off the back of their USA, Canadian and Irish tours, Mama Kin Spender will be rounding off 2018 with some Australian festivals and show dates.

+ Special Guest Jacob Diamond

Alt-folk oddity Jacob Diamond sings bold songs about love and death. After years in Perth’s songwriting underground, Diamond has recently emerged as one of the foremost singer-songwriters in the west, furnished with huge melodies and incisive lyrics. He pens intricate, genre-bent bangers taking all the best bits from a box of 60’s compilation CDs, memories of a crowded Catholic childhood, Les Miserables and one reckless detour into jazz-study. Well short of being as confused as it sounds, his work has earned him first prize in The Big Splash band competition, WAM awards for best folk act (2015) and best male vocalist (2016), the acclaimed release of EPs Chum (2015) and Um (2017) and national tours and supports.

‘…A phenomenal voice, with excellent control and impressive range… the performance definitely promised the young talent to be an artist worth paying attention to.’- Larry Heath, AU REVIEW
