DOC NEESON BLUES BAND with MAL EASTICK
KATOOMBA RSL CLUB
86 Lurline St, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia
A singer/songwriter, musician and formidable front man of rock band ‘The Angels’, Doc Neeson is a performer of prowess whose influence has been felt far beyond Australian Shores. Doc has commanded respect from the world’s hard rock royalty including Guns ‘n Roses, Cheap Trick, Motley Crue, Aerosmith and Keith Richards, who once called The Angels his ‘favourite rock band’.
With his blues band he is joined by another of Australia’s finest musicians, guitarist Mal Eastick. Doc will play many of his favourite blues tunes as well as a liberal helping of rock ‘n’ roll classics.
Mal Eastick is widely considered to be Australia’s finest musical protagonist of the blues. Playing guitar since his mid-teens, Mal has achieved a standard of playing that is, at once, both envied and admired. He has played with Robert Cray, Los Lobos, Buddy Guy, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Barnes and Kevin Borich, just to name a few.
Mal’s early career was epitomized by his time with legendary band, The Stars, and his work on the Andy Durant Memorial concert and album. In the 1980s Mal played in the Jimmy Barnes Band and also formed his own touring outfit. Two critically acclaimed albums have followed.
“Doc was backed up by a great band that really fired with Mitch Hutchinson (guitar), Justin Bianchi (bass), Dave Roberts (drums) and Rodney Moar (keyboards). However, the icing on the blues cake was guest and legendary lead guitarist Mal “Feelin Fingers” Eastick who was at his awesome best and contributed to the genuine blues cred. Mal was another one who was continually smiling throughout the set. Doc even had Mal singing at one stage. It must have been a first.
At the outset I mentioned that this was the blues debut of Doc. Well it turns out that Doc has plenty of blues experience having played for several years in a blues band back in Adelaide in the early seventies. Doc feels that he has now completed the full circle – and has now returned back to the blues where he started. I was surprised by the depth of his blues knowledge – knowledge that you would think is only possessed by a genuine blues fan. This was the re-emergence of Doc Neeson playing the blues and not a one–off as there are plans afoot for more shows and possibly an album of blues in the future. So, if the opportunity arises don’t miss the chance to see the ‘Doc’s Blues’.” Tony Mouritz: The Sydney Blues Society – Blues Times
This is a rare opportunity to see Doc’s return performance at Katoomba RSL with his talented blues band along with legendary guitarist Mal Eastick.
