Love Local Live is Blue Mountains City Council’s first-ever series of local events that will be brought to the community via live streaming.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “While restrictions are slowly easing, public gatherings are still limited and we understand many in our community are hesitant to venture out into crowds. That’s why Council is still looking for creative and safe ways to engage with you. The new Love Local Live series will bring a little entertainment to you, wherever you are, while supporting and promoting local businesses and creatives.”

At only 17, Katoomba singer/songwriter, Aurora Li is fast becoming a seasoned performer, playing regularly at live music venues, festivals and events in and around her home in the Blue Mountains and further afield, including Bello Winter Music, where she won the hotly-contested vocal category of the 2019 Youth Mentorship Competition, and the 2020 Illawarra Folk Festival, where she brought home Youth Tradition Awards in two categories. As the most senior member of family folk/bluegrass/indie pop trio, Breathing Underwater, Aurora has played to the packed concert hall of the Sydney Opera House as a featured artist for Pulse 2019, a showcase of outstanding young artists.
Alongside her performance commitments and hectic study schedule (she is currently preparing for her HSC), Aurora writes songs that are sometimes upbeat and irreverent, occasionally sad and angry, and often deeply moving, but always showing a wisdom and insight far beyond her years. Her spare, indie pop/folk sound is complimented by sharply observed lyrics that urge you to close your eyes and listen in, as she ponders the regrets, worries and passions of teenage life with a voice that will gently carry you along for the ride.

People who have heard her sing tend to describe Luca Zumwalt as an old soul. At 8 she picked up her first uke, at 9 she dubbed herself “Ace Evergreen” and she’s been quietly and earnestly crafting a unique musical identity ever since – shaped in one part by her own tremendous gifts and in another by an eclectic playlist of indie artists from Rebecca Sugar to Florence & the Machine, Girl in Red to Weezer. Fast forward another 2 years and Ace has swapped the uke for a guitar, comes armed with a truckload of vocal skill and charm and writes songs pulled from places you wouldn’t think an 11-year-old capable of going. Songs about existential dread, immortality, death, life, love. This is quintessential Ace Evergreen: a sensitive and small soul living an inconceivable conundrum just trying to make sense of it all through song.

The Maes (formerly The Mae Trio) are a multi-award winning band of three of the Australian folk scene’s most talented young songwriters, singers and performers. Sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby (The Rainmakers) are joined by cellist Monique Clare.
They perform an insightful collection of original songs arranged for ukulele, banjo, guitar, fiddle, cello, bass and superb three part vocal harmony.

Their latest album, Take Care Take Cover, was released in April last year and saw them win Best Folk Roots album at The Age Music Victoria Awards.

Joe Man Murphy is an Irish born Folk and Roots singer-songwriter and artist.
His music consists of foot stomping Celtic, Roots and Folk mixed together in a melting pot of energy and musical flair. With vibrant influences from Paul Simon, John Butler, David Gray and The Eagles, Joe Man’s music has evolved to become a unique blend of it’s own. Growing up in Ireland, living in three countries and working over 50 jobs, his tales are as unique as his family history.
Joe Man has performed at music festivals throughout Australia, including the National Folk Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Tablelands Folk Festival and Majors Creek Festival amongst many others.

THE SAUERKRAUTS (Rob & Deta Rayner from THE BEEZ) – Germany live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Sunday 30th April 2017, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

A yodellin´, thigh slappin’, lederhosen wettin´ fest of German music from Deta (accordion, vocals) and Rob (guitar, vocals) and featuring the Beatific Beats of their Bavarian Boombox. You´ll thrill to comic classics from the likes of Rammstein and Kraftwerk; you´ll tear off that dirndl and shake a Teutonic Tailfeather when you catch a glimpse of Nena´s 99 Red Balloons; you´ll swoon to Marlene Dietrich´s Lili Marlene but, most of all, you´ll be entertained – and that´s an order!

Deta and Rob always felt that the German Oeuvre was a little under represented in The Beez, so here they are to make amends with an evening of Dancefloor-Compatible Deutsche Derring-do, featuring Deta´s fabulous “Brunhilde Bass“ accordion. One octave below the conventional accordion bass, this is an Alp-quaking tone of Wagnerian proportions. Melded with Rob´s custom Höfner “Blitzkrieg“ guitar, it´s an irresistible rockin´ Polka machine held together by the marching rhythms of a loop machine by the name of Wolfgang Amadeus and, of course, those gorgeous harmonies and cabaret sensibilities which are the icing on the Schwarwälderkirschtorte.

Deta and Rob both hail from Berlin; their band The Beez performs regularly throughout Europe and Australia. They´ve appeared on ABC TV´s Spicks and Specks and at just about every folk festival you care to think of.
The Sauerkrauts will be touring Australia from January to May 2017.
