Melissa Black is a stirring and powerful performer. With deep roots in folk and blues, opting for the past couple of years to not push the live performance scene but choosing to work with some of Australia’s finest songwriters and focus on delivering her next collection of works. Melissa will soon be releasing these heart songs and bringing them on tour.
A story teller, songwriter, mother, musician and youth music mentor – Black’s music is pure and honest, rich with imagery and delivered with a voice of milk and honey. “I am so excited to be getting back on stage and sharing my best songs yet with you all!!”
“Everything about Melissa Black’s five-song EP The Eden Project shouts, ‘Serious artist!’ Melissa is a strong female voice, which is something today’s music scene just doesn’t have enough of right now. She hearkens back to the singer/songwriters of yesteryear.” – Skopemag

Imogen Clark is more road-hardened and wise than most performers twice her age, and with her new six track EP ‘The Making Of Me’, the 25 year old has translated the whole of who she is on record for the first time.
The songs span the arena-ready opening rocker ‘My Own Worst Enemy’, a co-write with Alex Lahey, to defiant ‘Inside Out’, which showcases Imogen’s soaring vocal, and ‘Push Me Down’, a volley at misogynist musicians. Together with the sultry and atmospheric ‘Paper Boat’ and heartrending piano ballad title track, the EP is a departure from everything Imogen has created before. Lead single ‘Found Me’ was written with Clare Bowen and her husband Brandon Robert Young, at the end of a US tour together last July.
Recording in LA meant access to musical legends Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello and the Attractions), who infused the songs with their musicianship and set a tone early on in the sessions.
It’s a far cry from playing pubs in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, where Imogen cut her teeth as a young performer, after picking up her father’s guitar at age eight. A relentless work ethic saw her build up a strong live following in rural Australia, gaining her touring slots with artists like Shania Twain, Ian Moss and Willie Watson, who recognised an artist with grit and maturity well beyond her years – an old soul learning to embrace being a young woman.
PRAISE FOR ‘THE MAKING OF ME’ EP:
“4.5/5 stars. This EP will become a landmark.” – Poppy Reid, Rolling Stone
“Imogen Clark may not have tailored her record to this era but her vibrant, bracing songs – kind of like a dip in a cold September sea – might just be one of the things to carry us through it.” – Divya Venkataraman, Sydney Morning Herald
“Every once in an audiophile while, like a bolt out of the blue, we’re gifted with a pop song so sunny, so chiming, so pure and perfectly crafted, that it might have been sculpted by the angels. No melodic faults, no clunky chords, no errant turns of phrase, just ebullient euphonic verse-chorus-bridge constructs that only strengthen with each successive listen.” – Tom Lanham
Blue Mountain’s based Maizy Coombes, is an endearing Violinist/Songwriter with a contemporary folk sound beneath wholesome lyricism. Her approach to life is equal parts adorable, resourceful and sneaky, all of which is reflected brightly in her music. Using a loop pedal to support herself, this unique sound scape has the ability to bring out tears as you apply make-up or brush your teeth, yet still leave you feeling contemplative and joyous.
We first encountered Maizy’s gorgeous fiddle playing in “Lime and Steel”. Don’t miss this opportunity to see her subtle and solo.

The Hinterlandt Ensemble in intimate concert
+ Oliver Downes (Album Launch)
Hotel Blue, Upstairs ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains
Sunday 16th October 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.
Hinterlandt is an acoustic quartet playing music written by German-born, Sydney-based composer and musician Jochen Gutsch.
Stylistically, Hinterlandt is diverse and progressive, with a narrative and engaging quality.
On stage and in recordings, Hinterlandt has taken on a variety of forms before finally evolving into an acoustic ‘post-chamber’ ensemble in 2014.
Hinterlandt has performed in London, Bangkok, Berlin, Jakarta, Helsinki, Sydney, Rome, Amsterdam, and Lisbon. In addition, twelve studio albums were released on nine underground labels in five countries.
Daniel Weltlinger – violin, xylophone
Lidia Bara – violin, xylophone
Simeon Johnson – cello, wind chimes
Jochen Gutsch – trumpet, guitar, glockenspiel
Singer-songwriter Oliver Downes is thrilled to launch his debut album ‘ultraviolet’, with an intimate evening of acoustic song. Formerly of the Blue Mountains, now based in Melbourne, Oliver blends intricate, percussive piano playing with soaring, hummable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.
Recorded following a hugely successful Pozible campaign, ‘ultraviolet’ is a lush cut of richly orchestrated chamber pop, featuring the talents of Oliver’s sister, Holly Downes (double bass) and Chris Stone (violin) of art-folk trio The String Contingent, who will join him at Hotel Blue.
Traversing territory reminiscent of artists as diverse as Ben Caplan, Radiohead or The Dirty Three, ‘ultraviolet’ offers a rich blend of dreamy ballads and exhilaratingly kinetic acoustic pop, charting a musical passage through the darkness into the light.
“Downes’ compositions and arrangements create nebulous, ethereal soundscapes, deftly woven by the tensile orchestration… Give your mind permission to wander” – The Music
