A yodellin´, thigh slappin’, lederhosen wettin´ fest of German music from The Beez’ Deta (accordion, vocals) and Rob (guitar, vocals) featuring the Beatific Beats of Julia Day on drums.

You’ll thrill to comic classics from the likes of Rammstein and Kraftwerk; you’ll tear off that dirndl and shake a Teutonic Tailfeather when you catch a glimpse of Nena´s 99 Red Balloons; you’ll swoon to Marlene Dietrich´s Lili Marlene, but wait, that´s not all!

Now those Testy Teutons have their sights set on the rich treasury of Oz Rock. As polka. In German. Wince as Aussie classics are put through the Sauerkraut mincer! Cover your ears as the likes of Barnsey and Farnsy are blitzed into polka oblivion! In The Sauerkrauts own words- “If you´re not a polka fan it’s looking really bad, ´cause this might be the longest evening you have ever had”. The Last Plane Out of Sydney´s almost gone but, regrettably, The Sauerkrauts are not on board.

Deta and Rob always felt that the German Oeuvre was a little under represented in today´s musical landscape, so here they are to make amends with an evening of dance floor-compatible Deutsche Derring-do, featuring Deta´s fabulous “Brunhilde Bass“ accordion. One octave below the conventional accordion bass, this is an Alp-quaking tone of Wagnerian proportions. Melded with Rob´s custom Höfner “Blitzkrieg“ guitar and Julia Day´s Germanic Grooves it´s an irresistible rockin’ polka machine.

Deta and Rob both hail from Berlin; their band The Beez performs regularly throughout Europe and Australia. They´ve appeared on ABC TV´s Spicks and Specks and every folk festival you care to think of.

Midnight Tea Party are a 5 piece Gypsy Dub band hailing from Sydney’s Inner West. Blending the hypnotic melodies of the Balkans with EDM, Jazz and Surf-Rock, they deliver a live set packed with party vibes.
The band’s new single “Boris The Blade” is a high energy, dancehall banger blending sub bass with Balkan brass and a psychedelic Surf-Rock guitar solo. This unique fusion of styles has been described by Happy Mag as “one of the most dynamic listening experiences we’ve come across in some time”.
Since the release of their album “Massilia” in 2018 Midnight Tea Party have played festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival, Bellingen Winter Music and Gumball as well as touring up and down the east coast of Australia. Deeply rooted in the tradition, FourWinds produce an exciting landscape of tunes and lyrics that present Irish traditional music in a modern and creative context.
Their influences include Begley and Cooney, The Bothy Band, Planxty, Brady and Irvine, Moving Hearts, Pink Floyd and even Elvis. This energetic quartet delivers a truly unique musical experience.

The band has been awarded the prestigious Danny Kyle Award, presented by the Celtic Connections festival board in recognition of outstanding emerging talent in Celtic music. FourWinds has also been chosen as one of three finalists in the Rising Stars Competition, held by The Gathering in Killarney, Ireland.

The band has performed as FourWinds since 2013 however Daoiri, Tom, Caroline and Robbie have toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada and America in both solo and group contexts (The Daoiri Farrell Band, Solid Clarity and Tom Delany and Caroline Keane duo) for many years, having shared stages with such renowned musicians as Paddy Keenan, The Chieftains, Tommy O’Sullivan, De Temps Antan, FullSet, Muireann NicAmhlaoibh, Karen Tweed and many more.
All four members have received awards at national level, Daoiri and Robbie having claimed the coveted All Ireland titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Daoiri’s debut solo album ‘The First Turn’ received critical acclaim in 2010, while Tom and Caroline’s debut ‘Framework’ was featured in Tradconnect’s top selling list. The Whitetop Mountaineers is made up of the duo, Martha Spencer and Jackson Cunningham. They both live in Whitetop in the highest mountains in Virginia.
Their shows feature old time country duet singing, up-tempo old time fiddle, clawhammer banjo, bluegrass mandolin and guitar instrumentals as well as high energy Appalachian dancing.

Along with performing as a duet act, they also are members of the Whitetop Mountain Band, which is one of the most popular old time bands in Southwest Virginia.
The band has won many competitions and awards in band, vocals, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, duet singing, and dance throughout the years in Fiddler’s Conventions throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and other southern states.

Jackson and Martha have played concerts, festivals, workshops, and dances throughout the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, including such venues as: Merlefest, Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, National Folk Festival in Richmond, Grahamfest USA, San Francisco Bluegrass and Old Time Festival, Folklore Society of Greater Washington, Cornish Bluegrass Festival in England, Tamworth Country Music Festival in NSW, Australia, Open House Festival in Belfast Ireland, and Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, Australia, The National Folk Festival in Canberra, Australia, The National Folk Festival in Butte Montana, The Port Fairy Folk Festival in Port Fairy, Australia, The Apollo Bay Music Festival in Apollo Bay, Australia, along with many other festivals and venues.

They have been a regular feature at several Australian festivals over the past few years and gain popularity and friendships with every visit.
They return from the USA to tour Australia in 2017 and to perform at the annual Woodford Folk Festival.
This will be their first Blue Mountains performance since their appearance at the 2015 Blue Mountains Music Festival.

Accompanied by his trusty five-string banjo, foot stomps and hollers, his memorable melodies, poetic sense and easy charisma appeal to anyone searching for new growth from old roots.

Old Man Luedecke is the real thing, a modern-day people’s poet, travelling bard and balladeer.

From the music rich maritime province of Nova Scotia on the East coast of Canada, this two-time Juno Award-winning banjo songster is a rare type of musician. Rarer still is a singer-songwriter of such hopeful goodness.

In the tradition of solo banjo men and women of days gone by like Doc Boggs, Old Man Luedecke sings his songs accompanied only by his loving five string, foot stomps and the occasional yodel. This is a bizarre type of music Doc Boggs might have made if he’d studied poetry.
His jaunty frailing style banjo playing lends uplifting buoyancy to sometimes quite melancholy and highly unique lyrical ideas, and slots beautifully into a young market hungry for new growth from old roots.

His music has received wide acclaim across the genres in Canada, from Feist to Buck 65 who co-opted him to play banjo on one of his most famous early tracks ‘Indestructible Sam’.
His songs are melodic gems blending old time sensibilities with an unusual vision and poetic sense.
His music belies someone more than slightly ill at ease with modern life and he performs with a gentle and endearing charisma, stories littered with a canny oblique humour. He is a sly entertainer with almost a hint of contemporary vaudeville about him and he plays a mean claw hammer banjo clearly derivative of the old time and Appalachia. He’s a revelation!

Ontario guitarist Jake Charron and 7th generation Prince Edward Island musicians Tim (fiddle) and Koady Chaisson (banjo) make traditional music seem ridiculously hip.

An adrenalised, roof-rattling, performance monster, the trio’s excellent new release Secret Victory, penned mostly in Australia in early 2015, features the beautiful songs, free-wheeling, feisty instrumental jigs, stomps and reels and heart-breaking harmonies that have made them torchbearers for a new wave in traditional music.

Even before releasing Secret Victory, The East Pointers knew they were onto something, having accepted the 2015 Music P.E.I. New Artist of the Year, and Roots Traditional Recording of the Year awards. They were also nominated for Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2015 East Coast Music Awards.

For a band barely together 18 months, they are in demand live, returning to the UK and Australia in late 2015 for a run of festival dates including Woodford Folk Festival, Cygnet, Illawarra, Cobargo, Nannup, Port Fairy and the National and then back again in early 2016 after extensive touring in Canada.

Multi-award-winning, Melbourne-based contemporary folk trio, The Mae Trio perform insightful original songs with superb 3 part vocal harmonies.

It has been a magical two years since The Mae Trio released their award-winning debut album Housewarming and hit international stages from Celtic Connections (Glasgow) to Cambridge Folk Festival and Americana Festival (Nashville), not to mention national Australian tours where they won the hearts of critics and fans alike. A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Edmonton’s Scott Cook has managed to distil the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse.

His 2013 release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track ‘Pass It Along’ won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him “one of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers”.
He released his fifth DIY album, ‘Go Long’, in the summer of 2015, embarking on another around-the-world tour in support of it.
All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

This will be Scott’s third Australian tour and he is here to perform at Woodford Folk Festival along with a number of other summer festivals.

Chris Gillespie is an independent artist from the Blue Mountains of NSW. His songs are beautiful, bursting with observational yearning. “A fingerpickin’, harmonica playing troubadour…

“Sydney’s answer to Bob Dylan” (Dave Regos – FBi Radio). Gillespie is renowned by his audience and peers for his songwriting craft, especially his lyrics – “Chris Gillespie is definitely one of those timeless songsmiths” – Joe Gould, (The Crooked Fiddle Band).

You can expect beautiful instrumentation coupled with meaningful and thought provoking words and “…harmonies [that] are downright gorgeous” (Tom Ballard Triple J).

The music is very Australian, highly original and delivered with refreshing honesty and integrity.
Chris Gillespie enjoyed a very busy and abundantly successful 2012 with the release of his debut album ‘Unnatural Light’. The title track spent months in the top 20 of the Triple J Unearthed charts. The song was used as the soundtrack to a short film, which was aired on Channel 9. Chris also performed live on Foxtel and was the opening act for Triple J favourite and Australian Idol finalist Lisa Mitchell.

Cameron is an original blues/folk songwriter/guitar player from Sydney. His dynamic tunes have deep respect for the old, yet his lyrics and arrangements are fresh and raw.
Cameron refined his sound playing sideman in various bands for years as well as studying classical guitar and doing composing and session work in professional orchestras, theatre and television. Cameron is also the guitar player from Dubious Blues Trio and Vanessa Raspa and the Zombie Cats.
