VULGARGRAD (Melbourne) + Special Guests Raduga Trio at the Baroque Room, Katoomba Blue Mountains, FRI 5th April 2019

Nomadic Fish & Fusion Boutique Present
VULGARGRAD (Melbourne)
+ Special Guests Raduga Trio (Blue Mtns)
Live in concert at the Baroque Room, Carrington Hotel

Fri 5th April 2019
Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar)
– NEW ENTRY VIA THE CARRINGTON HOTEL DRIVEWAY –
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Everybody’s favourite Russian criminals make their long-awaited return to Australian stages, launching their much-anticipated new album, “The Odessa Job”. The band has amassed an incredibly dedicated fan-base over the last 14 years, but for those who don’t know, VulgarGrad are a seven-piece band that play music by, for, and about Russian criminals – raw, raucous, and rude (particularly if you understand Russian).

VulgarGrad frontman and infamous Polish ne’er-do-well, Jacek Koman, is the rough diamond of stage and screen, known for his vocals on Roxanne from Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge and seen in The Great Gatsby.
He has just been released from penal servitude in the chilly film and TV studios of Warsaw, but only on a temporary basis. VulgarGrad are only likely to have a handful of Australian shows in 2019, so make sure you catch them before they get away.

After a tantalisingly lengthy wait (ten years!), the band now has a new album:  “The Odessa Job”, launching this April at the recently refurbished Baroque Room in Katoomba (Friday 5th April), and Camelot Lounge in Marrickville (Saturday 6th April) + Django bar (Sunday 7th April 2019).

The first single from the new album “I Remember”  (“Помню я”) is a psychedelic Soviet prison ode to the memory of dear mama, who always warned us not to hang out with thieves.

Be prepared for a night of gun-slinging, vodka-swilling, foul-mouthed disorder, and watch out for the biggest, most triangular instrument you will ever see, the contrabass balalaika.
Experience drunken songs, inebriated waltzes, manic stomps, hot swing from the Cold War days along with punk classics of the Perestroika era.
Wear a striped top and learn to swear in Russian, and you will dance or the trumpeter will shoot you.

ON THE STOOP + Special Guests THE LOST MARIACHIS at the Baroque Room RELAUNCH, Katoomba Blue Mountains, SAT 29th September 2018

ON THE STOOP LIVE IN CONCERT
+ Special Guests THE LOST MARIACHIS
Live in concert at the Baroque Room, Carrington Hotel
RELAUNCH NIGHT following recent refurbishments!

Sat 29th September 2018
Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar)
– NEW ENTRY VIA THE CARRINGTON HOTEL DRIVEWAY –
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

On The Stoop don’t plan on sticking to the rules. Or expectations. Or the straight path.
Balkan Gypsy, Mariachi, New-Orleans Swing, Hot Jazz, Spaghetti-Western, Cabaret, Film Score, Cumbia, Ska, Punk-Rock and Funk and few other as yet unidentified genres are all represented in this magnificent ensemble. On The Stoop are making a mark with their own style of refreshingly unpredictable music.

On the Stoop are formed by an outstanding group of players who each bring their personal spark to the band. They share members with bands including Waiting For Guinness, Mikelangelo, The Rhythm Hunters, Watussi, Fat Yahoozah, Facemeat, Chronology Arts Ensemble and a host of others.

Recent times have been generous to the band with a bunch of festivals under their belt, some regional touring capped off with performing at the Sydney Opera House.
Their latest LP, ‘Home’, received extensive radio support in Sydney including album of the week on Eastside Radio and airplay on community radio stations 2SER, FBi, ABC Radio National and RRR in Melbourne.

“My new favourite Zappa-flavoured, Spaghetti Western, gypsy-eyed, banjo powered, 1920’s/2040’s, Newtown, Balkan band” – John Hardaker, Words About Music

“I described their self-titled 2016 debut album as “Eastern-European, Tango, Balkan, Spaghetti Western, Gypsy, Vaudeville, Theatre, Blues, Zappa meets Trad Jazz’ and I was not kidding! On listening to their second album Home, I now have to add Mariachi, New-Orleans Swing, Cabaret, Film Score, Mexican Cumbia and Punk Rock. This is ludicrous I hear you proclaim. Well so is On the Stoop and I love them for it. Mariachi and Cumbia feature big time but not in their traditional forms.
On The Stoop bend and break the rules like no other Australian pop group and they do it in great style and with raucous abandon!

One moment they can summon up Frank Zappa in his zaniest moments and then next moment we’re in New Orleans with a second line street jazz band and then off to Mexico with a modern mariachi band. But these wildly varied flights of fancy are always framed in excellent musicianship in the composition, the arrangements and the playing. The horn harmonies are smooth and slick at times and weird and atonal when the song is begging for bent.

Only a group of highly accomplished musicians could keep up with the mercurial Serge Stanley who leads the band on a very wild ride. Dirk Kruithof contributes guitar lines that are sometimes pure spaghetti western and at other times have the angular attack of a musical chain saw. The rhythm section of Tim Bradley on drums and Joe Manton on bass is completely capable of all the myriad grooves that Stanley’s imagination demands. All the horn players are exceptionally good, playing in tight formation at times and in crazed cacophony at others.” – Peter Winkler, Loud Mouth

“This could be eight different bands from eight different corners of the world except it’s more like one fevered collective musical brain firing off ideas like skyrockets. Look, there’s one exploding above you right now” – Bernard Zuel, Music Journalist

On The Stoop come to the Blue Mountains fresh from playing a bunch of regional shows including filling halls in the mid North Coast and electrifying the dance floor at local festivals.

They are excited to be bringing their energetic mix of genres for a super fun night in the newly refurbished Baroque Room with two sets guaranteed to give the new sound system a great work out!

WALLIS BIRD (IRELAND) & AINE TYRRELL in Concert at Baroque Room, Katoomba Blue Mountains, WED 22nd November 2017

WALLIS BIRD (Ireland) + Special Guest Áine Tyrrell at Baroque Room

Wed 22nd November 2017
Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar), Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Irish dynamite Wallis Bird’s expressive vocals and driving guitar rhythms are being compared to artists like Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple or the young Janis Joplin. Her exceptional voice moves from delicate whispers to explosive power songs, while her music fuses elements of traditional folk music, blues and funk with an energetic handmade rock sound.

A musical magpie whose mature, self-affirming songs display an unusual emotional breadth, Wallis defies categorization. The Irish artist has paid her dues, shredding her fingers and breaking string after string from the sheer force of playing on stages small and large across Europe, and throwing her entire soul into each performance with a level of energy that makes her an unassailable force of nature.

Wallis Bird cannot – and should not – be pigeon holed easily. Capable of the delicate, gossamer-thin ballads that her tiny 5ft2 frame would suggest, she can also summon up a whirlwind of passion and rage in the blink of an eye. Her performances can transition seamlessly from the defiant anthems that can motivate thousands of festival-goers into a rousing sing-a-long, to the most hushed and fragile ballads that can captivate an audience into a spellbound silence . Wherever you may find Wallis, she stands out as a contradictory, powerful presence, one that can unite audiences anywhere she plays.

An exceptional guitarist, her unique playing style only adds to the intrigue of her performances. Following a childhood accident which permanently damaged her left hand, Bird learned to play her instrument flipped back to front, thus having to create her own bafflingly complex chord fingerings, much to the bewilderment of any musicians in the audience.

Now based in Berlin, in the last 8 years Bird has played over 600 shows in Europe and won two Irish Music Awards. Her refreshingly raw honesty and humour have forged some very strong bonds with audiences worldwide. Anyone who has been to a Wallis Bird concert knows that this is not just entertainment: it’s a way of life.

This is Wallis Bird’s second tour in Australia, after her first successful run launching her album “HOME” in 2016.

“Frank and endearingly tender, a tsunami of emotion… Magnificent.” – MOJO, UK

“The Sheer visceral energy of Wallis Bird could kick-start an entire economy.” – Irish Times

“FranIt’s her humour and bold honest that makes Bird so special.” – The Guardian, UK

AineTyrell6420MASTER300

From the West Coast of Ireland to a new life on the road in a 1966 Bedford Bus in Australia… Singing her little heart out!
Áine Tyrrell’s music is a contemporary folk collision between the Ireland of generations gone, and the hope of tomorrow. Her songs are as honest as an old friend, warm and inviting, managing somehow to fuse melodies over rhythms which transport you directly into the mid 19th century, to a land hardened by atrocity, which the rest of the world had temporarily forgotten.
She is a singer songwriter with a sound that transcends the convention the title suggests, at times anything from tribal to fragile and heartbreaking and most of all immaculately crafted.

Áine’s music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition. It has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound. Ache, honesty, and elated melodies, garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floor boards to, in both celebration and protest.

Australia’s historical lineage, and love of all things Irish, stands as testament to the accolades and support she is now garnering here in her new homeland, having procured the honour of Queenscliff Music festivals ‘Emerging Talent 2014’ mantle. Along with receiving the invaluable and ongoing mentorship from our own revered songstress, Clare Bowditch as well as Shane Howard, and in the success of her own extensive tour in support of ‘Queen of Swords’ Áine’s audience has grown, captivated by this unique talent who has infiltrated hearts and minds with her voice, stories and ability to motivate even the most reluctant of audiences into raucous sing-alongs.

“Tyrrell’s irrepressible personality and indefatigable nature pervades Queen of Swords” – Rhythms Magazine Jan 2016

“Tyrrell’s songwriting talent is evident in the crafting of the lyrics in this vigorous, barely tamed LP (Queen of Swords).” – BMA Magazine

Her voice is unmistakably Irish, in a way few singers are any more.” – Irish Echo

“Soul, intelligence, wit and wisdom, history and mystery and a voice that brings it all together. Don’t miss her, for fear that you might miss the very thing you need.” – Shane Howard

“Áine connects deeply with her music…emotionally stirring and uplifting.” – National Celtic Festival

Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus) + Special Guests at Baroque Room, Katoomba Blue Mountains, FRI 13th October 2017

SARAH McLEOD (The Superjesus) “Rocky’s Diner” Album Launch Tour
+ Special Guests Lola Sola and Paperhill
at Baroque Room, Carrington

Fri 13th October 2017
Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar), Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Sarah McLeod’s highly anticipated first solo release in 12 years ROCKY’S DINER is officially out. To celebrate, The multiple ARIA Award winning, platinum-selling artist has just announced the first run of dates on her massive national tour. The epic ROCKY’S DINER tour will run from October right through to November, and will showcase her newest work which marks a radical change of creative gears for Sarah.

McLeod created the album in near-complete isolation during a three-month stint in New York. She bunkered down in the bitter cold, watching the world go by outside her Brooklyn apartment, finding her muse in watching the lives of locals.

“I took my whole studio set up in a Samsonite hard case… There was zero room for clothes except for what I was wearing, I figured I’d buy more clothes when I got there. I wasn’t planning on going anywhere so I didn’t need much, the lack of party attire would hopefully eliminate any temptation to party, I was here to work.”  – Sarah Mcleod

Her first single off the album, “Giants”, was released with a beautiful video, with the treatment written by Sarah herself.

Following her huge achievements as the front woman of South Australian rock-band The Superjesus, she made her first move as a solo artist in 2005 with her debut album BEAUTY WAS A TIGER. Now, she continues this exciting journey with ROCKY’S DINER.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see Sarah perform live!
Joining her will also be Mick Skelton (Baby Animals / Thirsty Merc) on drums.

Rufino and the Coconuts play The Baroque Room

Sailing on a raft made of 60s guitars, 80s synthesisers and souvenir-junk percussion come the castaways of Rufino and the Coconuts. Rufino, crooner and violinist, renowned for his work with Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen, brings his sensational solo show of tropical-noir to The Baroque Room, Katoomba with a full 8-piece band to stir your very bones.

The Coconuts tell tales of Caribbean dentists, jungle misadventures, cray fishing and near-death love-affairs all delivered with a bone rattling backbeat.
They groove, they rock-steady, they spread good time tropical pop and then they yell and run from the evil spirit Baron Samedi.

Led by Rufino the Catalan Casanova – a tropical misfit well-dressed in a strange land – Rufino and the Coconuts take you on a journey both dark and joyful. With flashes of Voodou, rocksteady, 80s post-punk and smooth jungle disco, Rufino and the Coconuts is the band of your exotic island dreams and perhaps your most vivid jungle nightmare!
So join the expedition. With Rufino and the Coconuts at the lead it’s a tropical adventure we know you’ll just love!

Brittanie Shipway presents ‘Broadway Baby’ Cabaret Show at Baroque Room, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Sat 2nd May 2015

Brittanie Shipway presents ‘Broadway Baby’ Cabaret Show at Baroque Room, Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sat 2nd May 2015
BAROQUE ROOM
86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar)
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains

‘Broadway Baby’ is a fun and engaging cabaret show that is a mix of Old Hollywood Classics meets Broadway; from Judy Garland’s Over The Rainbow, Edith Piaf’s famous La Vie En Rose, to Shirley Bassey’s Hey Big Spender and more favourites!
All the big hits from the day – a vintage vaudeville!

Brittanie Shipway is an Australian singer/songwriter from the lower Blue Mountains region of NSW, known mostly for turning all four chairs in season 3 of ‘The Voice’ Australia with a breathtaking rendition of On My Own (Les Miserables). Ricky Martin exclaimed that her version of the piece was in his “top three” of all time, whilst pop princess Kylie Minogue said Brittanie “could walk onto Broadway tomorrow”.

A professional singer and actor, Brittanie performs for Musical Theatre productions, Stage, Corporate Functions, Television, as well as to sold out performances for her own cabaret shows.
Known as The Voice of Musicals in the Mountains, her dulcet tones and distinct showmanship are fast earning her a reputation as a rising star.
Hailed by theatrepeople.com as a “magnificent voice” for her performance as Eponine in Les Miserable at Riverside Theatre (2012), Brittanie is becoming one of the most highly sought after voices in Greater Western Sydney. She has featured in numerous musicals for the Blue Mountains Musical Society (BMMS), most notable of which were her performances as Rizzo in Grease (2012) and Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (2011), and again as Eponine in Les Miserable (2009). Brittanie began her musical training at the age of six under the tutelage of Sussane Towers (Australian School of Vocal Performance), and with the support of her family, she was quickly recognised for her remarkable vocal maturity and control.

She has recently shared the stage with Marlisa (X-Factor Winner), Taylor Henderson (X-Factor alumni), and Damien Leith (Australian Idol Winner) to sold out audiences across Sydney.

Recently, Brittanie has developed her talents as a songwriter, with her single ‘It’s Over’ debuted in the iTunes Top 30 Alternative charts, and was a finalist in the Australian Songwriting Competition (both Ballad and the Parramatta Prize 2014).

She is also an Ambassador for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, along with Jimmy Barnes and Megan Washington, and Bully Zero – both of which are organisations close to her heart.

With a bright and promising talent, Brittanie’s career will continue to rise in the entertainment industry and we need only count down the time before Brittanie Shipway is a household name of classical proportions.

Shaun Kirk + The Timbers + Morgan Bain at Baroque Room, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Fri 27th Mar 2015

Shaun Kirk + The Timbers + Morgan Bain at Baroque Room, Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Fri 27th March 2015
BAROQUE ROOM
86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar)
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains

Fusion Boutique is extremely pleased to present this amazing line up of touring artists for a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience them together in a terrific space in the Blue Mountains.

One-man-blues-band ‘Shaun Kirk‘ wowed audiences at the 2013 Blue Mountains Music Festival and is touring from Melbourne.
High energy, party anthem, folk explosion ‘The Timbers’ are on a run from Adelaide.
Opening up the night will also be touring WA artist Morgan Bain. Known for his incredible vocals he blends alternative soul, blues and rock.

Shaun’s profile and recognition as a talented performer has steadily grown over the past 18 months, supporting artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Big Bill Morganfield (son of the late great Muddy Waters), Diesel, Ash Grunwald and Mia Dyson as well as appearing in the line-up at many of Australia’s top festivals; Woodford Folk Festival, St Kilda Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival and Byron Bay Bluesfest. He was voted the ‘Youth People’s Choice Award’ at the 2012 Blues at Bridgetown Festival, as well as winning the public’s vote for ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2013 St Kilda Festival, substantiating his increasing popularity with the punters.
The forthcoming album ‘Steer the Wheel’ is Kirk’s most experimental and electrified record to date, seeing him explore beyond the blues influences that have characterised his previous work. With influences ranging from rock, soul and rhythm & blues, ‘Steer the Wheel’ is a collaborative record, which has enjoyed an inclusive approach from conception to completion. As well as collaborating with ARIA award-winning rhythm section of Danny McKenna (drums) and Grant Cummerford (bass) to lay down the core of all tracks, Shaun has bought together some of Australia’s finest musicians and vocalists to produce his most diverse release to date. Songs such as ‘Give to the Needy’ and ‘No One Gonna Love You When You Love Like That’ are a true example of the raw energy in Shaun’s music whilst ‘Twenty Two’ is a ballad with a clear message. Country blues number ‘Two Hands on the Wheel’ features Shaun’s good friends Kyle and Dan Lizotte (Halfway to Forth) and sounds like the soundtrack for many a road trip. ‘Stitches’ is packed with soul and demonstrates a vocal flexibility that Shaun has kept locked away until now. His blues influences are far from neglected, with songs like ‘Blues for My Birthday’, ‘Find Me A Lady’ and Tony Joe White’s ‘As the Crow Flies’ reflecting the sound he has become recognised for in his relatively short but impressive time as a performer.

ACCOLADES:

“A truly hot new artist on the blues scene” – Peter Noble (Director of Bluesfest)
“The blues is one of those funny things. We all have our ideas about what the blues is but as soon as we think we have a handle on the music, where it’s come from and where it’s going along comes someone like Shaun Kirk who blows away all our preconceptions.”  – Mathew Frederick (PBS FM, Melbourne)
“Shaun Kirk is the real deal – a young bluesman in the tradition of the greats. Killer songwriter, great singer and can wield an axe, a harp and feet beats with the best of them. He’s only going to get better and better. Long may he run!”- Mark Holden

The Timbers (Adelaide) are an alternative, modern Australian, country, gypsy, bluegrass, party anthem, celtic, punk, folk explosion! They have toured and played festivals all over Australia and are hitting the Blue Mountains between this year’s Yakandandah Folk and Folk In Broke Festivals.

THE TIMBERS’ thumping rhythms and big misty mountain melodies will cast you away to a sweaty, smoky, melting-pot of folk, roots and Celtic bushman brassy punk. They rollick and hammer their way through live gigs with abundant energy and have become festival favourites throughout Australia. This Adelaide based band has an infectious desire to take their audience on a wild ride of non stop musical passion with no limits.

Their debut album “Lawless”, released in 2014, received Triple J airplay and became a favourite on community radio stations Australia-wide. Rhythms magazine wrote “Imagine contemporary folk-rock bands such as Mumford & Sons and Graveyard Train, somewhere in the Australian bush or on the high seas and you have an idea of what The Timbers are about”.
The versatility of the Timbers music has allowed them to share the stage and many festival line ups with acts such as John Butler Trio, Ball Park Music, Eskimo Joe, Xavier Rudd, Sasquatch, The Beards, Little May, and The Audreys. 2014 was a break through year for the Timbers seeing them play to large crowds at Caloundra Music Festival (Qld), Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW), and Gorgeous Festival (SA). The year was topped off by being invited to perform to a crowd of 40,000 people at Adelaide’s New Years Eve event.
The Timbers were the 2013 winners of the Emily Borrows award from APRA. This accolade entitled them to be added to the illustrious list of SA winners including The Hilltop Hoods and The Beards.
In December 2014 the timbers set up a recording studio in a church in the Adelaide Hills and began recording their second album. Only 7 months after the release of their first album “Lawless”. The band has taken their first eager steps in a bold project due for release in 2015.

Their explosive start in the Adelaide music scene is worthy recognition of this band’s ability to marry exceptional musicianship with highly accomplished songwriting. Hailing from far away lands such as Mount Gambier, TAS, Ireland, and the Adelaide Hills, The Timbers have worked tirelessly together to create a unique high energy musical experience not purely confined to alternative folk. With songs soaked in male vocal harmonies, awash with intricate banjo and mandolin licks, soaring trumpet lines, on a foundation of solid piano and all held together by pounding dance rhythms from foot percussion, there is surely something for everyone in The Timbers repertoire.
