22 year old Irish twins Brandon and Ashley Watson combine to create The Ocelots. They have crafted their songwriting and musical experience together to produce a forceful blend of rich harmonies and bare, raw acoustic folk. Their music perfectly embodies the breezy effortlessness of early Bob Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel.
During the 2018 summer festival season The Ocelots performed all across Ireland, UK and mainland Europe and also toured with acts such as Jack Johnson, Glen Hansard, Hudson Taylor and Isaac Gracie.
They are now widely known for their instinctual expression in live performances, unique blood harmonies and stories full of wit, charm and spontaneity.
Now situated in Leipzig, Germany, The Ocelots will release their debut album in early 2020. The album contains elements of folk and alternative rock; while also being melancholic and indelible. Coinciding with the release they will return to Australia in Spring 2020, before continuing on into Europe’s festival season.
The Ocelots live set combines all that is great about live folk music, so come and be charmed by the charismatic duo.

Story is at the forefront for troubadour Áine Tyrrell whose rich song-writing practice draws deeply on her Irish roots. Her latest offering ‘Return to the Sea’ was written and recorded in her homeland but mastered and crowd funded with one boot in the red dirt of her adopted country of Australia. Fiercely independent Tyrrell is not one to bend to the demands of conventional production arrangements, and so with the help of Creative Arts Victoria, her long time musical producer Mark Stanley, and her international fan base, ‘Return To The Sea’ went rogue, recording in lounge rooms, front bars, old churches, and remote islands.
Return To The Sea has just been released with first song “In This House” gaining international attention as a finalist in the 2018 International Song-writing Competition and being used across schools in South Australia to reteach the history of colonisation. In This House along with 9 other tracks make an album that is a treasure trove of contemporary narratives and musical sojourns with a solid respect for tradition and a passion for adventure and travelling to new lands, both real, and musical. ‘Return to the Sea’ is a passionate journey as it draws from a number of styles and influences. Certainly, the traditional Irish folk is in her blood, but so too are elements of soul and rock ‘n’ roll, entwined within her lyrical testaments. ‘Return To The Sea’ is a call to arms, a siren’s wisdoms and warnings, and most importantly the soundtrack of a woman who walks her own beat.
Her unwavering passion for justice and integrity has led to her supporting current Women’s Rights and Indigenous Rights issues through performances, social media campaigning, song writing and public speaking engagements.
“‘Return to The Sea’ is about standing in power, owning your own skin and making sense of the shared responsibility we have as humans. The album embraces stories that have inspired me to do more than just sit and hope for change.” Said Tyrrell of the album.
“It is my call to arms. Many observations between Australia and Ireland are scattered through the tracks, but the one common thread is that together we rise in strength when one human experience can mirror and then shape our collective understanding and action.”
Smith & Jones are a duo from Bathurst, made up of keyboard player and vocalist Abby Smith, with guitarist and vocalist Sophie Jones. They have never been ones to follow the pack. Though classified as alt-country, their goal has never been to remain within the confines of any genre, preferring to let their sound and their songs take them where they will. Nowhere does this desire for individuality shine brighter then on their newly released second album ‘Something Worth Learning’ which is still full of the charm and joy audiences have come to expect from them This new work delicately balances themes of love and loss, friendship and isolation, emotional desire and freedom, fearlessly exploring the depths of their musical partnership with the listener by their side.
Smith & Jones’ first album, ‘Dark Gives Way’, released in 2017, was extremely well received with it’s first three singles; ‘Baby Blue’, ‘Small Town Woman’ and ‘Your Achin’ Heart’, all went to
number one on the internet’s Australian Country Radio charts and received airplay around the country.
Though their roots will always remain in the foundations of country music, their originals have found an undefinable energy of their own. Part classic country ballads, part sweet jazz standards, and often with a tongue firmly planted in their cheek, their beauty is in their harmonic simplicity and lyrical power.
“They’ve taken the path of making music that they want to hear themselves, whether it’s the catchy pop sounds as heard on the first single SecondHand Heart or Running from Something. A slice of fun with a bit of walking bass and finger snapping, singing a love letter to the “Boss” which was written after seeing him in concert: Last Night I saw Jesus. Dermot Byrne was awarded TG4’s Traditional Musician of the Year in 2013. From Buncrana in Co. Donegal, he is recognised as one of the great accordion players of his generation.
Bríd Harper is a senior All-Ireland Fiddle Champion and is enormously respected both as a teacher and performer.
This duo will be visiting Australia for the first time.
Bríd Harper is hailed as one of the leading exponents of traditional fiddle playing of our time. Encouraged by her parents, she grew up learning and playing Irish traditional music, going on to win numerous under-age All Ireland titles and other prestigious fiddle awards including the Senior All Ireland, Oireachtas na Gaeilge and Fiddler of Dooney. An MA graduate of the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick, Bríd has toured extensively and performed with many great musicians including Dermot Byrne, Tony O’Connell, Steve Cooney, Donogh Hennessy and Arty McGlynn. Bríd is a highly respected teacher and has tutored at many summer schools and workshops throughout Ireland and in France, Holland and the USA. Her first solo CD was released in 2015 and has enjoyed much success to date.
Dermot Byrne has played accordion since a very young age, having learned from his father Tomás O’Beirn, who comes from Teileann area of South West Donegal, and is an enthusiastic promoter of the tradition. Dermot had the good fortune to meet all the greats of Donegal music, including Johnny Doherty, Con Cassidy and Tommy Peoples, Danny Meehan and many more, and they made a great impact on the young Dermot, who went on to develop a unique style. His seemingly effortless playing, combined with great subtlety, and a faultless ear, makes him one of the great accordion players of his generation. As well as his mastery of the Donegal style and repertoire, Dermot can turn with ease to other styles and traditions such as French musette, or South American choro music. He guested on two Altan recordings “The Red Crow” and “Island Angel” before joining the band in 1994. Dermot has guested on collaborations with many great musicians including Seamus and Manus McGuire, Sharon Shannon, Salsa Celtica, Steeve Cooney, Dezi Donelly, Brid Harper, Frankie Gavin, Tommy Peoples, Pierre Schryer, Tim O’Brien and the late jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. He was the recipient of TG4 Gradam Traditional Musician of the Year in 2013. According to Siobhan Long (Irish Times) his solo recording in 1995 and re-released in 2015 is ‘a timeless delight that stradles centuries with the agility and ease that Byrne’s fingers ricochet across the reeds’.
Witches Leap take the dark modal sounds of old Ireland, filter them through the hanging swamps of the Blue Mountains and cut them with original convict-noir folk songs of black bushrangers and errant redcoats. Born out of the kitchen table sessions of the Blue Mountains, this trio features the distinctive earthy tones of the uilleann pipes, wooden Irish flute and bouzouki, along with acclaimed songwriting from Paddy Connor (Lime and Steel). With original tunes springing from the local sandstone and mythology, Witches Leap takes Irish trad on a journey through the grit of early New South Wales.
Witches Leap are currently touring the new EP they recorded in Blackheath: “Tunes From the Hanging Swamp”.

Deeply rooted in the tradition, FourWinds produce an exciting landscape of tunes and lyrics that present Irish traditional music in a modern and creative context.
Their influences include Begley and Cooney, The Bothy Band, Planxty, Brady and Irvine, Moving Hearts, Pink Floyd and even Elvis. This energetic quartet delivers a truly unique musical experience.
The band has been awarded the prestigious Danny Kyle Award, presented by the Celtic Connections festival board in recognition of outstanding emerging talent in Celtic music. FourWinds has also been chosen as one of three finalists in the Rising Stars Competition, held by The Gathering in Killarney, Ireland.
The band has performed as FourWinds since 2013 however Daoiri, Tom, Caroline and Robbie have toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada and America in both solo and group contexts (The Daoiri Farrell Band, Solid Clarity and Tom Delany and Caroline Keane duo) for many years, having shared stages with such renowned musicians as Paddy Keenan, The Chieftains, Tommy O’Sullivan, De Temps Antan, FullSet, Muireann NicAmhlaoibh, Karen Tweed and many more.
All four members have received awards at national level, Daoiri and Robbie having claimed the coveted All Ireland titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Daoiri’s debut solo album ‘The First Turn’ received critical acclaim in 2010, while Tom and Caroline’s debut ‘Framework’ was featured in Tradconnect’s top selling list. The members also feature frequently on many mainstream Irish television channels, including RTÉ, TV3 and the Gaelic language television channel TG4.

Áine Tyrrell’s music is a contemporary folk collision between the Ireland of generations gone, and the hope of tomorrow. Her songs are as honest as an old friend, warm and inviting, managing somehow to fuse melodies over rhythms which transport you directly into the mid 19th century, to a land hardened by atrocity, which the rest of the world had temporarily forgotten.
She is a singer songwriter with a sound that transcends the convention the title suggests, at times anything from tribal to fragile and heartbreaking and most of all immaculately crafted.
Áine’s music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition. It has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound. Ache, honesty, and elated melodies, garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floor boards to, in both celebration and protest.
Australia’s historical lineage, and love of all things Irish, stands as testament to the accolades and support she is now garnering here in her new homeland, having procured the honour of Queenscliff Music festivals ‘Emerging Talent 2014’ mantle. Along with receiving the invaluable and ongoing mentorship from our own revered songstress, Clare Bowditch as well as Shane Howard, and in the success of her own extensive tour in support of ‘Queen of Swords’ Áine’s audience has grown, captivated by this unique talent who has infiltrated hearts and minds with her voice, stories and ability to motivate even the most reluctant of audiences into raucous sing-alongs.
