WALLIS BIRD (IRELAND) & AINE TYRRELL in Concert at Baroque Room, Katoomba Blue Mountains, WED 22nd November 2017

WALLIS BIRD (Ireland) + Special Guest Áine Tyrrell at Baroque Room

Wed 22nd November 2017
Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 86 Bathurst Rd (Upstairs from ‘The Harp & Fiddle’ Irish Bar), Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Irish dynamite Wallis Bird’s expressive vocals and driving guitar rhythms are being compared to artists like Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple or the young Janis Joplin. Her exceptional voice moves from delicate whispers to explosive power songs, while her music fuses elements of traditional folk music, blues and funk with an energetic handmade rock sound.

A musical magpie whose mature, self-affirming songs display an unusual emotional breadth, Wallis defies categorization. The Irish artist has paid her dues, shredding her fingers and breaking string after string from the sheer force of playing on stages small and large across Europe, and throwing her entire soul into each performance with a level of energy that makes her an unassailable force of nature.

Wallis Bird cannot – and should not – be pigeon holed easily. Capable of the delicate, gossamer-thin ballads that her tiny 5ft2 frame would suggest, she can also summon up a whirlwind of passion and rage in the blink of an eye. Her performances can transition seamlessly from the defiant anthems that can motivate thousands of festival-goers into a rousing sing-a-long, to the most hushed and fragile ballads that can captivate an audience into a spellbound silence . Wherever you may find Wallis, she stands out as a contradictory, powerful presence, one that can unite audiences anywhere she plays.

An exceptional guitarist, her unique playing style only adds to the intrigue of her performances. Following a childhood accident which permanently damaged her left hand, Bird learned to play her instrument flipped back to front, thus having to create her own bafflingly complex chord fingerings, much to the bewilderment of any musicians in the audience.

Now based in Berlin, in the last 8 years Bird has played over 600 shows in Europe and won two Irish Music Awards. Her refreshingly raw honesty and humour have forged some very strong bonds with audiences worldwide. Anyone who has been to a Wallis Bird concert knows that this is not just entertainment: it’s a way of life.

This is Wallis Bird’s second tour in Australia, after her first successful run launching her album “HOME” in 2016.

“Frank and endearingly tender, a tsunami of emotion… Magnificent.” – MOJO, UK

AineTyrell6420MASTER300

From the West Coast of Ireland to a new life on the road in a 1966 Bedford Bus in Australia… Singing her little heart out!
Áine Tyrrell’s music is a contemporary folk collision between the Ireland of generations gone, and the hope of tomorrow. Her songs are as honest as an old friend, warm and inviting, managing somehow to fuse melodies over rhythms which transport you directly into the mid 19th century, to a land hardened by atrocity, which the rest of the world had temporarily forgotten.
She is a singer songwriter with a sound that transcends the convention the title suggests, at times anything from tribal to fragile and heartbreaking and most of all immaculately crafted.

Áine’s music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition. It has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound. Ache, honesty, and elated melodies, garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floor boards to, in both celebration and protest.

Australia’s historical lineage, and love of all things Irish, stands as testament to the accolades and support she is now garnering here in her new homeland, having procured the honour of Queenscliff Music festivals ‘Emerging Talent 2014’ mantle. Along with receiving the invaluable and ongoing mentorship from our own revered songstress, Clare Bowditch as well as Shane Howard, and in the success of her own extensive tour in support of ‘Queen of Swords’ Áine’s audience has grown, captivated by this unique talent who has infiltrated hearts and minds with her voice, stories and ability to motivate even the most reluctant of audiences into raucous sing-alongs.

“Tyrrell’s irrepressible personality and indefatigable nature pervades Queen of Swords” – Rhythms Magazine Jan 2016

“Tyrrell’s songwriting talent is evident in the crafting of the lyrics in this vigorous, barely tamed LP (Queen of Swords).” – BMA Magazine

Her voice is unmistakably Irish, in a way few singers are any more.” – Irish Echo

“Soul, intelligence, wit and wisdom, history and mystery and a voice that brings it all together. Don’t miss her, for fear that you might miss the very thing you need.” – Shane Howard

“Áine connects deeply with her music…emotionally stirring and uplifting.” – National Celtic Festival

CASS EAGER & THE VELVET ROPE + Special Guest ANDIE in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, SUN 22nd October 2017

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
CASS EAGER & THE VELVET ROPE
‘Ain’t No Stopping Me’ Tour
+ Special Guest ANDIE
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Sunday 22nd October 2017, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Named by folk-blog Timber and Steel as ‘Janis Joplin and Ben Harper’s love-child’, Cass Eager’s mix of raw soul, husky blues and light-hearted ditties are all punctuated with her unique whisky-soaked vocals. Emotive, slightly raspy, at times tender and at times powerful, Cass’ authentic voice is always the driving force of her music.

Internationally renowned but defiantly grassroots, Cass Eager is one of those rare artists that’s mastered everything from the foot-stomping blues to a sensual slow burner. She’s been called ‘one of the best female singers in Australia’ by Richard Glover (ABC), ’the girl with the golden voice’ (Daily Examiner), and Diesel claims ‘she has a voice so sweet she could sing the phone book and you wouldn’t get bored’.

Eager’s music has taken her to some of the world’s most far-flung places. She’s done several ‘tours of duty’ entertaining Australian troops, from The Middle East to East Timor (with Paul Kelly and Peter Garrett). She’s toured through North America and Canada – alone with her acoustic guitar; alongside Ash Grunwald; and with US musician Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo; ex-Wilco). She performed for Prince Harry during his Australian visit, and after being invited back for a repeat performance, ended up giving the prince guitar lessons.

More recently, Cass supported Michael Franti & Spearhead on their 2015 Bluesfest tour, sat in with Alabama-native Kristy Lee’s Bluesfest sideshows and played alongside G. Love & Special Sauce and JJ Grey & Mofro. 2016 saw her perform with Canadian artist Irish Mythen at Bluesfest and national dates.

A finalist for Best Group and Best Female Vocalist in the Australian Blues ‘Chain’ Awards and Best Blues/Roots Artist in the MusicOz Awards, Cass’ EP ‘Down On My Knees’ was voted one of the ‘Top 10 Albums’ of the year in Rhythms Magazine.

Cass Eager has a brand new beat and she’s hitting the road with her band this October to send new single ‘Ain’t No Stopping Me’ off into the world.

Strange Daddy produced the new track, which is somewhat of a stylistic departure from Cass’ previous work. Lyrically, it’s a testament to her resolve, and sonically it has a vintage Motown charm that hints at an Amy Winehouse swagger but sounds like she’d be more at home drinking tequila with Elle King. As always, Cass has got “more soul than heaven on a busy day”. (Brag)

Her voice carries like the wind and slams you right in your gut where you want it to. She also loves a good story and a good laugh, and her shows are just as much about heart-warming and entertaining tales as they are about the music.

Some artists take a hiatus to write, some to travel, and others to re-ignite their creative inspiration. Cass Eager has done something a little more pragmatic with her recent years, and the result is two small children, Hank and Lois. But she’s back – better than ever – and ready to tell the world to step aside with her new single.

“One to watch” – Sam Fell, Rhythms
