+ Special Guests LE HOT CLUB DE KATOOMBA TRIO
Live in Concert at the Baroque Room, Carrington Hotel

Friday 14th February 2020, 8pm. Doors Open 7pm.

– NEW ENTRY VIA THE CARRINGTON HOTEL DRIVEWAY –
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Fusion Boutique is extremely pleased to present THE TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD ORCHESTRA (Canada) in the Blue Mountains for their first Australian Tour. This trip sees them perform at Illawara and Cygnet Folk Festivals and other select dates.

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra are a collection of musicians, linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties. From ballads and sing-alongs to high-energy dance parties, they have spent years telling their stories with guitars and violins, with accordions and bass, with melodies and music makers gleaned from their wanderings. The band is from a sparsely populated region of Canada’s West Coast. They travel community to community, bringing people together at halls on the Gulf Islands, barns in the prairies, kitchen parties in towns, clubs in the cities and festivals all summer long.

Their music weaves a multicultural Canadian tapestry: Roots, Eastern European Dance Party, Jazz, Bluegrass, Flamenco, African, Latin, Celtic, Métis, Rock, Gospel, Blues, Canadiana while the band represents an eclectic background – German Mennonite, Chinese, Dutch, Scottish and Métis. These troubadours remind you that this music could not exist without warm bodies in search of harmony.

Irish-Mythen-Promo-Photo250

Irish Mythen’s music is so powerful and beautiful you can’t help being instantly engaged.

Irish is a true entertainer who is known for her gripping live shows which are a thing of wild emotion as she pours heart and soul into every word she sings. She has a way of delivering her songs that leave you in awe of her vocal talent and remembering the show, the songs and the performer long after you’ve walked away.
She is the storyteller who will grasp your attention and who will bring you on an incredible and emotional journey, as well as the comedian with a joie de vivre who’ll have you laughing from the very beginning until long after the end of her show.

Irish Mythen was born in Ireland and now resides in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island Canada.
“This Island creates music and musicians, art and artists. I found a shift to take things more seriously when I moved here.” And she did just that.

Her latest release, the self-titled Irish Mythen, gained her recognition around the globe with nominations and wins coming from Music PEI, East Coast Music Association, Folk Alliance International and SOCAN. Write-ups in Australian Guitar Magazine, the Rolling Stone, and a plethora of online publications world-wide have helped plant Irish firmly on the map of ‘Must See Artists’.

“I had no idea what to expect when this five foot nothing lady took the stage, all smiles and twinkling eyes and guitar. Then, she opened her mouth and out flew a voice that came straight from the Heavens with all the power and the glory and the truth of someone destined to be a singer. I’ve been blessed with seeing and hearing a lot of talented musicians in my life, but I have never experienced anyone quite like Irish Mythen. She is a force of nature and a gift from Almighty Herself.” – Lisa Schwartz, Philadelphia Folk Festival

“I was amazed at your ability to hold such a massive crowd as if it were a tiny one.” – Dougie MacLean, Artist

“By vote, the three most requested artists to return to Mariposa Folk Festival have been 1) Joni 2) Gordon, and 3) Irish Mythen” – Mike Hill, AD Mariposa Folk Festival

SOLD OUT – TEN STRINGS AND A GOAT SKIN (CANADA) in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, WED 11th April 2018

Nomadic Fish & Fusion Boutique Present ‘Metro Social’ with
TEN STRINGS AND A GOAT SKIN (CANADA)
live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Wednesday 11th April 2018, 6:30pm. Doors Open 5:30pm.

Prince Edward Island trio TEN STRINGS AND A GOAT SKIN announce their first tour of Australia in March/ April 2018. This dynamic bluegrass ensemble will perform at The National, Yackandandah and Fairbridge Folk Festivals, plus concerts in TAS, WA, NSW and VIC.

Transforming tradition with vigour, curiosity, humour and spark, this Canadian trio wielding bodhrán, acoustic guitar and violin plays seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining music. Singing in both French and English, they were awarded “World Music Recording of the Year” by Canada’s “East Coast Music Association”. They’ve been nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards, and received “Roots-Traditional Album of the Year” (2012) from Music PEI.

Brothers Caleb and Rowen Gallant wield Bodhrán and violin, while Jesse Périard drives acoustic guitar, creating original songs and arrangements. Their recent album “Auprès du Poêle” weaves old-school Acadian roots (Franco-Canadian) with Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes, filled with wicked grooves and cunning quirks, featuring both traditional and original songs. Working closely with producer Leonard Podolak (The Duhks), Ten Strings and a Goat Skin pushed their music into new territory which promises to gather new listeners around the warm glow of fast-burning tradition.

Touring constantly through Canada, USA, Europe and the UK, playing at major festivals including Winnipeg, Vancouver and Calgary Folk Festivals, North Country Fair, Edmonton Folk Festival (Canada), Folk Alliance International (USA), Tønder Festival (Denmark), they were invited back for two years in a row to prestigious Shewsbury Folk Festival (UK). Yet the trio never forgets its powerful ties to the many musics of PEI, the island’s rich mix of Celtic and Francophone elements that ramble from mouth music to foot percussion. Originals take their cues sonically from this wealth and lyrically from a deeply felt connection to the history of Eastern Canada (“Caledonia”). Don’t miss them while they are in Oz!

“A seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining traditional music powerhouse.” – The Guardian

“They make music based in PEI’s folk traditions, with a drive and perspective that blows the cobwebs off any outdated view of folk music.” McIntyre Hall Performing Arts Center

“Ten strings and a goat skin are merely the instruments; it is the talent and charm of these three lads that brings them alive…A magic I never wanted to end.” Val Haller ~ Valslist, Chicago

“Toe-tapping fiddle tunes to heart-felt ballads … lively instrumentals and their breathtaking harmonies.” The Guardian

Probably one of the most exciting and progressive new roots groups to come through the Burren in some time…. The future for these boys is huge. Traditional music – roots and branches – on both sides of the Atlantic, is in very good hands!” – Penguin Eggs

JUNO and four-time Canadian Folk Music Award winners THE GOOD LOVELIES return to Australia in March/April 2018, launching their new album “SHAPESHIFTERS” at Blue Mountains Music Festival, Yackandandah and The National Folk Festival and a special series of concerts across NSW and Victoria.

Kerri Ough, Sue Passmore and Caroline Brooks are each immensely talented vocalists and songwriters in their own right, but together, their interwoven voices create such a powerful and pure, organic and inspiring harmony that the ensemble is elevated from impressive to peerless. They represent the essence of a creation which is certainly greater than the sum of its parts. In concert, their impeccable vocals, winsome song-writing and comedic banter have won them acclaim across Canada, USA, UK, Australia and Europe.

Over the course of more than a decade they have covered plenty of stylistic ground, including “folk-pop”, with country folk as their core and first love. The trio first united in 2006 for a one-off performance: they have since recorded eight albums, won a JUNO plus four Canadian Folk Music Awards, and charmed audiences across the globe, with the unmistakable sound of their intertwined voices as the sonic anchor.

SOLD OUT – DON MCGLASHAN (NZ) in Concert + Dinner at Paragon Café, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Fri 20th May 2016

DON MCGLASHAN (NZ) in concert at the iconic Paragon.

CONCERT + CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL + 3 COURSE GOURMET DINNER + TEA/COFFEE, BISCOTTI & CHOCOLATES!

Fri 20th May 2016
Strictly limited tickets!

Don McGlashan is recognised as one of New Zealand’s foremost songwriters, artists and performers, with five entries in APRA New Zealand’s “Top 100 Songs Of All Time”.
His career spans from the seminal post-pop-punk band Blam Blam Blam, to art experimentalists The Front Lawn, to platinum selling and internationally recognised band The Mutton Birds.
He has worked and performed with Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Johnny Marr, Wilco, Brian Ritchie and members of Radiohead and has scored a number of feature films, including Jane Campion’s “An Angel At My Table”.

McGlashan’s songs have been described by Q Magazine as ‘from the same cerebral power-pop mother lode as Big Star and early REM’.

He returns to Australia to unveil a rich new collection of highly personal songs (“Lucky Stars”) exploring love, regret and mortality, infused with optimism and joy.

McGlashan started the raw material for this new album at a little house on the Thames Estuary, then realised them in Neil Finn’s writing room at Roundhead Studio with guitarist Tom Rodwell. He produced them with former Mutton Birds bandmate David Long, (who also contributes some textural guitar, organ and banjo) and drummer Chris O’Connor. “I went away, imagining that I would write a rather solitary, introspective record, but what came out had a lot more joy and optimism than I expected.”

‘Lucky Stars’ contains many songs which are very personal reflections on McGlashan’s own life and thoughts: “This time, I don’t seem to be adopting characters to get an idea across… the ‘I’ is generally me in these songs”. And unlike previous solo or Mutton Birds albums, these songs enjoy a simpler and more direct sound, while spinning some very engaging yarns.

“…all the hallmarks of his singular style are in place — the spine-tingling way he moves from major to minor keys, his keenly observational eye, the thoughtfulness with which his songs are forged… No one else gets close to writing songs like that, and making them work”. – METRO MAG

SOLD OUT – OLD MAN LUEDECKE (Canada) in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs, “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains – Sun 15th May 2016

OLD MAN LUEDECKE (Canada) in Concert

Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 15th May 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Accompanied by his trusty five-string banjo, foot stomps and hollers, his memorable melodies, poetic sense and easy charisma appeal to anyone searching for new growth from old roots.

Old Man Luedecke is the real thing, a modern-day people’s poet, travelling bard and balladeer.

From the music rich maritime province of Nova Scotia on the East coast of Canada, this two-time Juno Award-winning banjo songster is a rare type of musician. Rarer still is a singer-songwriter of such hopeful goodness.

In the tradition of solo banjo men and women of days gone by like Doc Boggs, Old Man Luedecke sings his songs accompanied only by his loving five string, foot stomps and the occasional yodel. This is a bizarre type of music Doc Boggs might have made if he’d studied poetry.
His jaunty frailing style banjo playing lends uplifting buoyancy to sometimes quite melancholy and highly unique lyrical ideas, and slots beautifully into a young market hungry for new growth from old roots.

His music has received wide acclaim across the genres in Canada, from Feist to Buck 65 who co-opted him to play banjo on one of his most famous early tracks ‘Indestructible Sam’.
His songs are melodic gems blending old time sensibilities with an unusual vision and poetic sense.
His music belies someone more than slightly ill at ease with modern life and he performs with a gentle and endearing charisma, stories littered with a canny oblique humour. He is a sly entertainer with almost a hint of contemporary vaudeville about him and he plays a mean claw hammer banjo clearly derivative of the old time and Appalachia. He’s a revelation!

An adrenalised, roof-rattling, performance monster, the trio’s excellent new release Secret Victory, penned mostly in Australia in early 2015, features the beautiful songs, free-wheeling, feisty instrumental jigs, stomps and reels and heart-breaking harmonies that have made them torchbearers for a new wave in traditional music.

Even before releasing Secret Victory, The East Pointers knew they were onto something, having accepted the 2015 Music P.E.I. New Artist of the Year, and Roots Traditional Recording of the Year awards. They were also nominated for Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2015 East Coast Music Awards.

For a band barely together 18 months, they are in demand live, returning to the UK and Australia in late 2015 for a run of festival dates including Woodford Folk Festival, Cygnet, Illawarra, Cobargo, Nannup, Port Fairy and the National and then back again in early 2016 after extensive touring in Canada.

Timber and Steel included ‘Secret Victory’ in their Top 25 Albums of 2015!

SCOTT COOK (Canada) in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs, “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains, SUN 6th March 2016

SCOTT COOK (Canada) in Concert
+ Special Guests Chris Gillespie and Cameron James Henderson

Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 6th March 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Edmonton’s Scott Cook has managed to distil the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse.

His 2013 release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track ‘Pass It Along’ won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him “one of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers”.
He released his fifth DIY album, ‘Go Long’, in the summer of 2015, embarking on another around-the-world tour in support of it.
All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

This will be Scott’s third Australian tour and he is here to perform at Woodford Folk Festival along with a number of other summer festivals.

“One of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers… beautifully written lyrics, intricate chordal patterns and a refreshing plain-spoken vocal clarity… there isn’t a bad song on here. 4 stars.” – Emily Saxton, Maverick Country, UK

“Scott Cook has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voice, that at the same time intones the rigors of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on.” – David Francey, 3x Juno-winning songwriter

“Lyrically I think he’s up there with the likes of Prine or Smither as well as contemporaries like Adam Carroll and (fellow Canadian) Old Man Luedecke… It has the feeling of someone retelling their favourite stories… Remember that Prine fella I was talking about? Yeah, that one.” – No Depression

“As hard-working a DIY songwriter as any in the game… A Scott Cook song contains the extra work done by a carpenter who cares. Work the carpenter doesn’t have to do. Work only other carpenters will likely even notice… One of the best songwriters this country has. A working artist who’s taken enormous risks in order to make something which offers strength to anyone who takes the time to listen… I believe that over the years this album will prove to be a benchmark in Canadian folk music, as well as a signpost pointing the way for younger artists. I believe that young songwriters will write better songs because of it.” – Corin Raymond, Raymond Unrushed

“4 stars. Rich in plainspoken, poetic expression… Unapologetically honest words and music crafted from a keen observer’s perspective” – Donald Teplyske, Lonesome Road Review

“There’s nothing flash about Canada’s Cook. He sings his heart and soul, and in doing so lets light flood into your own… He has a good eye for imagery, a gentle human touch, a wry sense of humour, a whole lot of integrity, a warm, rugged voice and a bunch of memorable lines… Truly one of Woody Guthrie’s children.” – David Burke, R2 Magazine, UK

Guests will be in for a real treat with a performance from local Australian Folk artist Chris Gillespie from 5-6:15pm in the lounge as well!

Chris Gillespie is an independent artist from the Blue Mountains of NSW. His songs are beautiful, bursting with observational yearning. “A fingerpickin’, harmonica playing troubadour…

“Sydney’s answer to Bob Dylan” (Dave Regos – FBi Radio). Gillespie is renowned by his audience and peers for his songwriting craft, especially his lyrics – “Chris Gillespie is definitely one of those timeless songsmiths” – Joe Gould, (The Crooked Fiddle Band).

You can expect beautiful instrumentation coupled with meaningful and thought provoking words and “…harmonies [that] are downright gorgeous” (Tom Ballard Triple J).

The music is very Australian, highly original and delivered with refreshing honesty and integrity.
Chris Gillespie enjoyed a very busy and abundantly successful 2012 with the release of his debut album ‘Unnatural Light’. The title track spent months in the top 20 of the Triple J Unearthed charts. The song was used as the soundtrack to a short film, which was aired on Channel 9. Chris also performed live on Foxtel and was the opening act for Triple J favourite and Australian Idol finalist Lisa Mitchell.
“It’s difficult for any independent acoustic artist to make a name for themselves in the shadow of the likes of Josh Pyke and John Butler. Yet somehow Chris Gillespie pulls this off with an earthy, unadorned and folksy panache… [He] creates an intoxicatingly addictive blend of country-infused folk rock that is at once familiar and unique” (Peter Walsh Rave Magazine, Brisbane).

Chris will be accompanied by Cameron James Henderson (on bass)
Cameron is an original blues/folk songwriter/guitar player from Sydney. His dynamic tunes have deep respect for the old, yet his lyrics and arrangements are fresh and raw.
Cameron refined his sound playing sideman in various bands for years as well as studying classical guitar and doing composing and session work in professional orchestras, theatre and television. Cameron is also the guitar player from Dubious Blues Trio and Vanessa Raspa and the Zombie Cats.

“After seeing Irish perform live, you are left with a sense of wanting more. This girl has often been called the female version of ME.” –  Matt Andersen

THE RUMJACKS Album Launch with Special Guests Belle Jar AT HOTEL GEARIN, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Thur 5th Mar 2015

Troubadour Touring and Fusion Boutique Present:
The Rumjacks
Special Guests Belle Jar (Blue Mountains)

Thur 5th March 2015
HOTEL GEARIN
Venue: HOTEL GEARIN
273 Great Western Hwy, Katoomba
Blue Mountains NSW 2780.

With their brand new studio album ‘Sober & Godless’ due for release in early 2015, The Rumjacks are hitting the road in February, March & April for an extensive Australian tour.

Born of a desire to make music in general and Celtic-flavoured punk in particular, The Rumjacks are an entity rather askew, cast adrift of the mainstream and the industry as a whole. These five musical misfits from the cobbled streets of old Sydney town are a group unto themselves and the music they’ve made their own.

Since the group’s inception, they’ve come to embrace the oddball world they’ve found themselves in, becoming part of the gnarled, handmade furniture you might say, drawing from a solid base and pushing, stretching, bullying it to their every whim, creating something of their own. You may make comparison to The Pogues, Billy Bragg, The Dropkick Murphys et al, and you’d be right to, but you’d be well advised to acknowledge the twist these five have put to their music themselves, making it something unique.
“Well it’s absolutely vital,” concurs front man McLaughlin on putting their own stamp on this music, something that has led to the band cultivating a marvellous versatility which sees them comfortable on any number of stages, in any number of situations. From their heavy Celtic roots to the driving punk rock rhythms, the cheeky lyrics and rampant, greased up bonhomie that drips from the stage whenever these five step up, this is what The Rumjacks bring.

It’s been this versatility, not to mention the flat-out talent and drive they exude, that’s seen the band share stages with artists as diverse as Gogol Bordello, Guttermouth, the Dropkick Murphys, GBH, UK Subs and The Aggrolites. It’s seen the two releases since their debut EP – the Sound As A Pound EP (’09) and debut long-player, Gangs Of New Holland (’10) – stand up as solid works, finding places amongst the collections of fans of rock, punk, folk, reggae, Irish and god knows what else.

Frankie McLaughlin: Vocals, tin whistle.
Johnny McKelvey: Bass, vocals
Anthony Matters: Drums, vocals
Gabriel Whitbourne: Guitars, vocals
Adam Kenny: Mandolin, banjo, bouzouki, bodhran, acoustic guitar, vocals

Ignited in the catacombs of Paris, Belle Jar brings you the madness and mayhem of infectious rhythms and manic fables.
They play an original blend of Gypsy, Klezmer, Swing and Pop styles, with English and French lyrics. They tell stories of anti-heroes trying to break out of the ordinary that will get you up and dancing.
Belle Jar‘s infectious energy has spread from festival to festival over the last couple of years. Their genuine interaction with people and their passion for what they do is evident. These guys will fire up your old country longings as wild boom-chak boom-chak rhythm meets bent melody.”

JARON FREEMAN-FOX & THE OPPOSITE OF EVERYTHING (CANADA) AT HOTEL GEARIN, KATOOMBA, BLUE MOUNTAINS

Nomadic Fish and Fusion Boutique Present:
Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything (Canada)
Special Guests – Lime & Steel (Blue Mountains)

Sat 31st Jan 2015
Australian Tour
HOTEL GEARIN
Venue: HOTEL GEARIN
273 Great Western Hwy, Katoomba
Blue Mountains NSW 2780.

Limitlessly creative and playful, “The Opposite of Everything” dances down a line between the beautiful and the absurd, transforming Freeman-Fox’s intricate violin compositions into an infectious party.

Winners of three Canadian Folk Music Awards, the ensemble also features Toronto’s finest and most adventurous musicians: New Orleans-style clarinettist John Williams, Klezmer accordionist Robbie Grunwald, Jazz bassist Charles James, and drummer Dan Stadnicki.

Continually redefining what the violin is capable of, Jaron has fused his fiddling roots with a study of Jazz and Indian classical music. At age 14, he began an apprenticeship with Canadian fiddle pioneer Schroer, which lasted until Shroer’s death in 2008. Jaron has been playing his mentor’s custom 5-string violin since.

In four busy years, the outfit has performed across North America and Europe, including Winnipeg Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival, WOMEX in Greece and Folk Alliance in Memphis.
This will be their first appearance in Australia!

“The hyper-kinetic Jaron Freeman-Fox is the Jimi Hendrix of the violin.
With the chops of a classical virtuoso and the soul of a wild-eyed punk, he plays world music in the truest sense of the word, leaping from Gypsy to Klezmer to Celtic to Country without skipping a beat.”
– Ottawa International Jazz Festival

“Jaron Freeman-Fox calls his band the Opposite of Everything. With a name like that, you might expect his music to be pretty adventurous – which it most certainly is.
His new album begins with a remixed sample from a horse auction that melds into Indian vocal percussion. Before the album is finished, you’ll hear growling that would make Tom Waits proud, a version of the Doors’ “People Are Strange” that makes Jim Morrison sound boring and even some throat singing.
Freeman-Fox’s musical exploration has literally taken him all over the world and he finds inspiration everywhere he goes.”
– Reuben Maan, CBC Music

“Jaron Freeman Fox and the Opposite of Everything electrified the crowds wherever they went at Live From the Rock. The exuberance, talent, creativity and controlled insanity demonstrated by this exciting Toronto conglomeration was a joy to behold.”
– Jennifer Ives: Artistic Director, Live from the Rock Folk Festival

With a driving banjo, doghouse bass, a sweet fiddle, Blue Mountains locals ‘Lime and Steel’ take a bluegrass string band, throw in a rock drum kit and a uniquely Australian intonation for a show of originals that moves from pub rock anthems about EH Holdens to convict murder ballads. Lime and Steel’s sweet harmonies twang through Bogan bluegrass love-songs and wind up into a spoon-tappin’ fast-pickin’ wine-soaked hillbilly family singalong.
