Fusion Boutique Presents
T. WILDS (trio)
‘Ten Songs’ Album Launch
Live in Concert upstairs at Bootlegger Bar

Venue: BOOTLEGGER BAR 92 Bathurst Rd, Katoomba NSW 2780, Blue Mountains

T Wilds celebrates the release of her new album ‘Ten Songs’. Recorded in the Blue Mountains with her band partner Matt Toohey, ‘Ten Songs’ sees Tania Bowers mark a spectacular return to songwriting and performance, stripping back the electronic production flourishes of her early material as Via Tania and crafting, authentic, left of centre folk music.
The ‘Ten Songs’ which feature on the album revel in delicate, minimal arrangements with a dark, reflective edge. ‘Ten Songs’ includes the singles ‘I Swim’ and ‘Curious Moon’.

Originally growing up in the Melbourne and Sydney (indie) music scene with her band Spdfgh, Tania relocated to Chicago for quite some time where she played her music with members of Tortoise, Wilco, and Giant Sand.
The impact of T. Wilds’ voice is immediate and definitive. Distinctive, delicate yet powerful, and instantly captivating. Her voice provides the perfect vehicle for her ever-expanding catalogue of songs that are wise and curious, daydreamy and evocative. She is influenced by the beauty of her surroundings and the natural world. Landing somewhere between the sophisticated soul of Sade, the wistful yearning of Nico, and the country-tinged soul of Gillian Welch, her music continues to evolve into its own genre of delicate indie-folk.

Come and join us for a special intimate launch of her new album upstairs at Bootlegger Bar. Tania will be performing in trio format with Matt Toohey (Kid Cornered) on guitar and Anna West on cello.

This will be one show only and a limited capacity and we advise booking quickly to avoid disappointment!

Victor Martinez Parada is recognised as one of the world’s finest classical Latin-American avant-garde guitarists. Born in Santiago, Chile, he has resided in Australia since 1989. He is an accomplished composer, teacher and performer with an extensive list of music in his repertoire, ranging from classical and South American folk to avant-garde. He has composed pieces for solo guitar, ensembles including duos, trios, quartets, sextets and also for guitar & ensemble and guitar quartet & symphony orchestra. He is well-known for his arrangements and fantasies on pop tunes such as Stevie Wonder’s ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’, Daniel Alomia Roble’s ‘El Condor Pasa’, Laura Branigan’s ‘Self-Control’ and Harold Arlen’s ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. Audiences cherish his performances which reflect a professional music career spanning more than 50 years. A performance by Victor Martinez Parada will not only make you understand how music has shaped him but the way he has shaped music. He is a musician’s musician who plays from the heart.
After nurturing the musical careers of his family for many years with the band, Martinez Akustica, Victor Martinez Parada has returned to his roots and is taking his unique talent back on the road as a solo artist.

“Victor’s ear is such that he’s able to peel away the thump & swish of epic early eighties Britpop production to find the heart of a song not even its writers seemed to recognise. He honours the composition, rather than his own virtuosity. This humility, an abject absence of vanity, is a hallmark of his musicianship. Indeed, it’s the defining characteristic. It’s emblematic of Parada’s truly rare & precious gift for arrangement. And it’s a talent that comes to the fore again and again throughout the evening.
‘You Are the Sunshine of My Life’ is one of the greatest songs ever written. And, if it’s possible, Victor’s Fantasy on it only but enhances its status in the popular canon. In his hands, it becomes around a ten-minute opus. It’s as if he’s rolling out a red carpet for the tune, which progressively & unmistakably insinuates itself. The rhythmic flavour of flamenco informs the arrangement and imbues a passionate urgency. It’s a virile, avant-garde take on a Wonderful song. The Chilean Hendrix does it again.’ – Syke on Stage

Reviews for Martinez Akustica, Victor Martinez Parada’s trio formed with his sons Andro and Dauno Martinez.

“Martinez Akustica had an interesting approach to jazz and pop, highly energetic jazz laced with flamenco flair and modern improvisation by three great guitarists.” – George Benson

“Their live show left me inspired each night of the tour. Definitely some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen.” – Michael Franti – Spearhead

“The music benefits from their intensity and passion…. so does the listener!” – Jeff Hamilton (Diana Krall)

“This is probably the greatest acoustic guitar band in the country – and yet another must-see at Bluesfest.” – Byron Bay Blues Festival

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are very pleased to welcome Daniel back to the Blue Mountains and after the last SOLD OUT shows we advise booking early to avoid disappointment!

The young Australian born and Nashville based virtuoso recently described as ‘the finest guitar player of his generation’ brings his world tour back home!

“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical” – themusic.com.au

The story goes that Daniel Champagne first picked up his instrument of choice as a 5-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could, honing his craft and developing the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road without looking back.
The following years have seen him release four studio albums, tour relentlessly around the globe with upwards of 300 shows per year, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, John Butler, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Daniel is now regarded as a leading light in acoustic music, with a firm reputation for dropping jaws, making crowds buzz and breaking guitars wherever he goes.

Do not miss this show. They have been selling out all over the world!

WHAT THE PRESS SAY…

“The word Prodigy seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills, he coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” – The Calgary Herald, CANADA

“Today I saw the future of Folk – Festival goers flocking in the thousands towards the main stage to witness a young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper.” – The Firefly Column, USA

“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads. Fusing the strong traditions of Blues, Folk and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.” – The Indie Blender, CANADA

“reinventing roots guitar” – Rhythms Magazine, AUSTRALIA

“Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art.” – BW Review, NEW ZEALAND

“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical” – Themusic.com.au, AUSTRALIA

Mark Wilkinson announces, ‘Hand Picked, Vol. 3’, the newest instalment in his much-loved acoustic series. Available worldwide from Friday February 12th, it continues the tradition of showcasing his songs laid bare, in their most raw and honest form.

It’s a sentiment fans around the world know well, whether they’ve seen Mark on stage, just a man and his guitar, or if they’ve come to discover him through his first two volumes. The original Hand Picked endeared him to tens of thousands with ‘Middle Ground’ broadcast on television throughout Australia and New Zealand. Volume two’s ‘Everything to Me’ found millions more with regular radio rotation across the US and Canada.

Now ‘Hand Picked, Vol. 3’ brings that same intimacy. Recorded on a farm in the NSW Southern Highlands, each song captured as a live take with one microphone, the natural setting of the surrounds adds a beautifully unique sonic texture.

To celebrate the release Mark will be returning to the road, crossing open borders after a long absence, sharing songs from the new album along with many other favourites. Restrictions may mean numbers will be limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

As an extra special treat Michael Simic will be bringing his full band up to the Blue Mountains for this Katoomba show.

Stepping out from behind the Mikelangelo persona, Michael Simic announces a solo tour in November to launch the single Dark Moon, from his forthcoming album.

Well known for his long-term band Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen (who celebrate their 20th anniversary this year), Simic’s solo work puts his intimate storytelling and reflective ballads front and centre. Balancing light and shadow, his melodic, guitar driven songs and sonorous voice share terrain inhabited by Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave, mixed with the dreamy and expansive musical landscapes of Mazzy Star, Cowboy Junkies and Calexico.

For Simic, who had his first child with his wife at 49, there was a mixture of emotions, and an incredible flood of creativity. Taking a year off has afforded him downtime to connect with more personal song writing. Dark Moon was penned in a caravan out the back of a converted church where his small family live near Braidwood in country NSW. The song was inspired by starry nights far from the city, and a need to make peace with the past and accept the present.

Sydney’s bluegrass darlings The Morrisons tell Australian stories steeped in the sound of folk and old-time music. With high, lonesome singing, fast picking and original songs inspired by folklore, family and their lives as young Australians, they are a modern-day string band like no other.
Featuring banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, washboard, harmonica, and 4 part harmonies, they deliver a live show full of raw energy and emotion.
The 7-piece band have performed at major festivals around the country and supported the likes of Nathanial Rateliff & The Nightsweats (US), Marlon Williams (NZ), Kitty, Daisy & Lewis (US), and Lake Street Dive (US), received a Golden Guitar nomination and won an Australian Songwriters Award.

“The Morrisons play big band folk, like a mash up of both Inside Llewyn Davies and Oh Brother Where Art Thou’s T-Bone Burnett” – Concrete Playground

“Gathered centre-stage around a single microphone, performing a consummate set of bluegrass music. Solos were aplenty and all band members showed their ability to shine in the spotlight before pulling their instrument back into the cohesive and brisk pluck and strum of their collective sound” – The Music

“An incredible bluegrass/country/folk 7 piece” – AU Review

“The Morrisons prove that Sydney bands can pick with the best of the them” – Timber & Steel

KingCurlyBWweb300

Hailing from the Blue Mountains NSW, King Curly is the invention of local singer/songwriter Steve Appel – a long time enigma of original Australian music.
After many absences from the stage, building alternative-design mud houses, King Curly re-emerges to showcase new songs.
Appel is a true creative. His songs and his buildings are beautiful and relevant to the times.
King Curly has toured throughout the world – by invitation with acts as diverse as K.D Lang, Paul Kelly and The Cat Empire. The band features Steve Grieve on guitars and Johnny Graffham on pedal steel.

“Tiny Tim meets the gritty story telling of Lou Reed. Songs of avenging zombies, ukulele bumblebees, possessed pianos and a certain air of quiet, small town romance, against an impossibly beautiful backdrop of chook-shed instrumentation”.

Recent ARIA nominees – THE CROOKED FIDDLE BAND are a mesmerising and fiery acoustic 4-piece that deliver high-energy Chainsaw Future-Folk. Post-Apocalyptic World Music. Celtic Energy. Swamp-Stomping Hoe down. Dance-Inciting Mayhem. Hardcore Gypsy Passion!

The Crooked Fiddle Band formed in 2006 through their mutual love of the energy and intensity of various traditional world music. Whilst writing and arranging, they discovered that this energy was shared by the other music they love: there seems to be a common thread between the frenetic accompaniment of gypsy, klezmer and punk rock; between the twisting rhythms of math-metal and Balkan folk; between the clear tonalities of Scandinavian folk, Celtic folk, and cinematic post rock.
All these influences went into the mix, but what came out was The Crooked Fiddle Band. The sound they love is dark and often driving, but also writhing and ecstatic They have jumped around with whirling crowds at festivals, bars and dirty warehouse parties throughout Europe and Australia and also played their more cinematic sounds in the Opera Theatre of the Sydney Opera House.
This music they have sometimes called ‘chainsaw folk’ – even though they are pro-conservation – but others have called it “14th century Romanian metal”, “thrash folk”, “whirlwind gypsy” and even “what Sepultura would sound like if they provided the soundtrack to a hyperactive version of O Brother Where Art Thou.” So whilst the search continues for a name for their genre, they are mainly concerned with making music with melody, energy and intensity.

Driven by the beautiful and furious fiddling of Jess Randall (also on Lennart Lovdin Nyckelharpa), and underpinned by a rhythm section featuring Gordon Wallace (Gilet guitar, a Wheeler Custom Lutherie guizouki and a Fylde mandolin and cittern), Mark Stevens (double bass, Appalachian dulcimer, charango) and Joe Gould (drum kit, hand percussion, garbage bin, vocals) the Crooked Fiddle Band sound blasts, rocks and grooves to the point of dementia, compelling listeners into a joyous frenzy.

Their latest offering ‘Another Subtle Atom Bomb’ takes the band’s blistering violin-led live show and creates soundtracks to their feelings around climate change. From angsty and furious folk tunes to fantastical imagined worlds full of ecstatic hope, this is The Crooked Fiddle Band’s most personal album yet.

Their music has been described by Brian Eno as “…completely surprising: the music is original and quixotic. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything else like it!”

“This band really is a national treasure and testament to the infinite talent that keeps manifesting in our backyard… this group have re-invented folk music as it is known… The Crooked Fiddle Band charmed the audience into submission.” – Vanessa Lahey, Australian Stage

“When The Crooked Fiddle Band took to the stage, it was as though someone had put 10,000 volts through the dance floor.” – BEAT magazine.

“AN IRRESISTIBLE FORCE OF NATURE.” – Tony Hillier, The Australian

DeepseaLights_03WEB300

Blue Mountains based Deepsea Lights have spent most of their time playing gigs in and around Sydney, taking their time to craft a unique sound and engaging stage presence. Sometimes playing more traditional venues, often playing underground artist run events, their versatile set means they’re at home on most line-ups.

Captivating vocals, catchy melodies, live looping, spoken word; Deepsea Lights put a lot of focus on pulling a crowd in, and creating and holding a space. In 2019 the duo released their first full length album “The Space Between”.
Not content living in just one genre, the duo dip their toes (and sometimes plunge their heads) into anything that inspires them. Lying somewhere between folk and trip-hop, their uncommon sound can move from rolling bass lines and ethereal vocal melodies, to beats composed entirely of household objects being struck with other household objects, to aggressive hip-hop rants, to soft rainy-day folk songs. Stitching their inspirations together like a sonic patchwork quilt, they’ll use whatever they can get their hands on in an effort to get things out of their heads and into the world.

LoloLovineOpenStudioWeb300

Lolo Lovina (‘Red Beer’) are an intoxicating, cosmopolitan virtuosic brew infused with Unza, Swing and Balkan Gypsy beats. The only ethnic Romani band in Australia, fronted by Hungarian Romani-Gypsy singer Sarah Bedak.
Lolo Lovina’s music reflects the cosmopolitan identity of an artist, who grew up with three native tongues and cultures. The charming and passionate performance of the charismatic singer makes each of her concerts a unique experience. Featuring Serbian Rroma drummer Nenad RadicMatt Ottignon on Sax, Leonid Beshlei on button accordion and sax & George Nikolopolous on bass.
Lolo Lovina have played at the Opera House, Guca Festival Serbia, in New Caledonia, in Europe and to full houses wherever they go.
Their album Rroma Sapien received a 4 Star review in the London based World Music magazine Song Lines (June 2016) with Rroma Sapien and RromAntics both being featured on ABC Radio National’s program, ‘The Daily Planet’.

(Lolo Lovina)…have created an album that swings from traditional to ground breaking Rroma music, all imbued with a tremendous sense of fun” – Lucky Oceans, The Daily Planet ABC Radio National

‘Excellent new, vibrant album (RromAntics!) from world-touring, Sydney-based Rrom music band…’ – Lucky Oceans, The Daily Planet, ABC Radio National
“You have to listen to these people, this is the future of music” – Brian Eno, Luminous Festival, Sydney Opera House
“With musicians from Ukrainian/Romanian, Hungarian and Brazillian backgrounds, this music is authentic to its roots and played with vigour and precision.” – Bradfield Dumpleton
“Musically and culturally Planet/MGM consider the group to be in the forefront of contemporary world music coming out of Australia. Their live performances are exciting, varied and professional with consummate performance skills from all members.” – Graeme Regan, MGM the Planet Company
“…Traditional Gypsy tunes alternate with Lolo originals here, and the arrangements are solid, tight, classy and brassy…” – 4 STAR review of Rroma Sapien by Seth Jordan in Songlines Magazine, London UK.
“..a most remarkable band fronted by …Sarah Bedak – as exotic a flower as you are ever likely to see behind a microphone. To say the sound is infectious doesn’t quite express it…they have people of all ages (and believe me, I saw it) hurling themselves through the air, across the dance floor, inventing moves on the spot, hugging each other with a passion … I’ve seen bands of all shade play, but I can’t recall seeing anything quite like this! Yes, it is gypsy but there are also dollops of Spanish flamenco, Russian, Greek – indeed the music of anyone who likes to party.” – Glenn A Baker

GaryDaleyJamesGreening300

Highly respected musicians, James Greening, trombone and pocket trumpet & Gary Daley, pianist and accordionist, have joined forces to bring an amalgam of original compositions, classical, jazz and improv.
After decades as sought after sidemen in projects like ‘The Catholics’, as well as leading their own projects, these two renowned musicians have discovered a deep joy in making music together. Both Daley and Greening relish the freedom, intimacy and transparency of the duo which is perhaps one of the most exposed types of performance.
Their musical dialogue is about unmasking, connection and freedom. Audiences respond with great enthusiasm to their performances.

Greening’s performing and recording credits put him in the company of some Australia’s all-time greatest contemporary musicians. “Greening’s trombone has the delicious plumpness of a ripe mango. The Sad bits and the funny bits become jumbled, and there can be no higher praise.” – John Shand, The Sydney Morning Herald.

Daley’s playing has been described as “exquisite”, by John Shand (SMH), and his composition for large ensemble, Sanctuary, drew the following response… “music such as this can knock the wind out of my diaphragm, by simply reminding me how far the word falls short of the music”, – John Hardaker, Australianjazz.net

POSTPONED – CLAUDE HAY AND THE KUNG FU MUSTARD Live at the Baroque Room, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, SAT 10th October 2020

Unfortunately after much consideration this show / whole tour will also need to be postponed.
The current situation, restrictions on national touring (Claude’s drummer also resides in QLD), as well as limited venue capacities due to social distancing requirements mean that confirming new dates isn’t possible at this stage. The Australia album launch tour will be rescheduled to the new year and I will announce the set date as soon as we are able to confirm.

Please note that ticket sales for this event are currently paused.
Tickets prices were set when we could actually go to the legal capacity of the room.
Unfortunately with the social distancing requirements of 4 meters square per guest it does make things difficult for a lot of small to medium sized rooms.
We are looking in to options such as running 2 separate set seated sessions on the evening.
Another announcement will be made as soon as possible.

Fusion Boutique Presents
CLAUDE HAY
and The Kung Fu Mustard – Album Launch
Live at the Baroque Room, Carrington Hotel

Saturday 10th October 2020, 8:00pm. Doors Open 7:30pm.

Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 15 Katoomba St
– NEW ENTRY VIA THE CARRINGTON HOTEL DRIVEWAY –
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Blue Mountains songwriter Claude Hay is hitting the road this spring to launch his debut album for his new act ‘Claude Hay and The Kung Fu Mustard’. The new band takes its cues from old school funk, one of Claude’s first musical loves, and will take the dance floor up a notch at his already heaving shows.

After hitting the road in Canada to launch the single “Funk Ave”, Claude returns home to do an East Coast tour to promote the forthcoming album.

Claude Hay has been one of the leading lights of the Aussie festival scene for almost a decade, chocking up uncountable kms in pursuit of a heaving marquee to pump out the funk/blues rock riffage. His solo show has taken him around the world, and his famous weird and wonderful homemade guitars have cranked out 4 studio albums and 1 live album over the past 10 years. His 5th studio album sees him funkify the dance floors to a new level with his new guitar Mustard whilst sharing a stage with a live drummer.

You can shake your booty to Claude Hay at his home town Katoomba on Oct 10 at the Baroque Room.

KING CURLY
“Tiny Tim meets the gritty story telling of Lou Reed. Songs of avenging zombies, ukulele bumblebees, possessed pianos and a certain air of quiet, small town romance, against an impossibly beautiful backdrop of chook-shed instrumentation”.

DAN TUFFY
If his knock-out gigs at the recent Bello Winter Festival are anything to go by, this will certainly be a night to remember.
Dan Tuffy’s 2017 album ‘Songs From Dan’ was hailed as a “downright masterpiece”. Dan is an Australian ex-pat who has operated in the Netherlands as a music producer, storyteller and record label owner for over 20 years.
He returns to Australia this year to tour his new album ‘Letters Of Gold’.
Dan’s music is an out-of-the-box mix of electronics, earthy acoustics, pulse and lyrical beauty. He is a very special performer whose songs have an uncanny ability to move through you.

POSTPONED – THE BUTTON COLLECTIVE Unplugged Album Launch Tour + Special Guest TBA at Junction 142 Katoomba, Blue Mountains – SAT 27th June 2020

Hello everyone, this event is still postponed as the online information indicates.

Restrictions on national touring as well as limited venue capacities due to social distancing requirements have meant that confirming the new date hasn’t been possible as yet.

Unfortunately as long as social distancing remains in place this particular venue can only accommodate 36 people in total including all performers and staff. So not enough guests in the end to make putting on a concert with touring performers viable at this stage (and keeping ticket prices accessible for customers).

I have moved the online promotion to a new temporary date for now but will announce the set date as soon as we are able to confirm.

If you have any further questions then please contact us directly:

Kind Regards
Charity

Fusion Boutique Presents
THE BUTTON COLLECTIVE UnButtoned (acoustic unplugged) concert
‘Make a Dead Man Sing’ Album Launch Tour
+ Special Guest TBA
live in Concert at Junction 142 Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Announcement: In light of the current situation surrounding COVID-19 this event will need to be postponed.
We are also in the process of working with the artists and venue on a rescheduled date and will advise of that as soon as available.

Saturday 27th June 2020, 8:30pm. Doors Open 7:30pm.

Listen to The Button Collective’s latest album release ‘Make a Dead Man Sing’ and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d slipped through the fabric into Australia’s colonial heyday. The album, recorded live on tape in front of a few small audiences, combines classic tales of Australia’s onerous past with personal stories from songwriter Brodie Buttons.

The Button Collective bring back to life an essence of Australia that has been largely drowned out by the hum of progress and development in this parched country. Brodie Buttons brings with his songwriting an air of wisdom well beyond his years. With an earnest yet jovial presence, he shares an intimacy and perspective that engages both young and old, and leaves audiences with that timeless kind of yearning for the simplicity of yesteryear.

As well as original folk songs, the five piece band perform their own fiery versions of traditional Irish, Australian, and old time American tunes passed down through generations. The performances range from heartfelt finger-picking to full-blown high energy party-folk perfect for a hoedown. In fact, their live performance is rumoured to actually Make a Dead Man Sing.

RORY McLEOD in Concert at PIGEON LANE @ GALLERY ONE88 Katoomba, Blue Mountains, FRI 24th January 2020

Fusion Boutique & Nomadic Fish Present
RORY McLEOD (UK) “Touring with Gusto! 2020”
Live in Concert at Pigeon Lane @ ONE88

Friday 24th January 2020, 7pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Fusion Boutique is very pleased to welcome one-man soul band, poet and storyteller Rory McLeod back to the Blue Mountains following his well received performances at the 2016 and 2019 Blue Mountains Music Festivals.
Tickets are extremely limited and we advise booking early to avoid disappointment.

Rhythmic storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Rory McLeod is a travelling troubadour toting stories and songs that are bold, percussive, lyrical and deeply personal. Wielding  guitars, harmonicas, trombone, spoons, stomp box, tap shoes, a big heart and a cheeky wit, his shows are enthralling and unforgettable.
“I’ve travelled to look for work, to mend a broken heart, to be with someone I longed for. I’d travel to visit friends and on the way I’d make new ones; I’d roam because I was curious to see what was around the next corner…”

He returns to Australia in Jan/Feb 2020, lugging a swag of new tunes, performing at Cygnet Folk Festival (TAS), Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW) plus some very special shows across Australia.

“McLeod is one of the most energetic, most generous performers I’ve seen.” : Doug Spencer, ABC Radio.

“The charismatic British storytelling troubadour… tripped passionately through highly original and distinctive self-penned material.” : Beat Magazine.

“…eloquently expressed ideas are set to vibrant, dynamic music with bouncy rhythms, infectious riffs and nifty tunes. McLeod transmitted a pure joy of music making …” : St Louis Post-Despatch (USA)

“A dynamic live performer – never still or silent, his shows radiate energy.” : Venue magazine (UK)

CANCELLED – CHARM OF FINCHES (Melbourne) with BREATHING UNDERWATER in Concert at PIGEON LANE @ GALLERY ONE88 Katoomba, Blue Mountains, SAT 21st December 2019

Fusion Boutique Presents
CHARM OF FINCHES (Melbourne)
+ Special Guests BREATHING UNDERWATER

Live in Concert at Pigeon Lane @ ONE88

Unfortunately anxiety about travelling to and performing in a fire zone area got the better of the Charm of Finches girls on the way up from Sydney tonight and we had to cancel the show.
Thank you for your understanding and we wish you a very happy and safe holiday season and hope that you can join us for another show in the new year.

Saturday 21st December 2019, 7pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Melbourne’s angelic sister folk duo, Charm of Finches, are touring their highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Your Company’. They will be launching it at Pigeon Lane on Saturday 21st December as part of their national album launch tour.

It has been three years since the duo released their highly praised 2016 debut album ‘Staring at the Starry Ceiling’. ‘Your Company’ has been born of a time of turbulence. Following the death of Ivy’s best friend at the age of 14, the sisters’ songwriting turned towards the theme of grief, longing and the celebration of those left behind. This genre-defying album is lush with the sisters’ spacious string arrangements (cello and violin they play themselves), other worldly piano, a folky banjo and compelling ethereal vocal harmonies.

“There’s also the simple beauty of family voices intertwining, with Charm of Finches’ Mabel & Ivy – and even their names seem perfectly anachronistic for the folk purity of their music – providing the harmonies for Sky Watching… that slightly mystical alternate reality, maybe owing something to Joanna Newsom and that ilk. Despite – or perhaps because of – their youth, the music they make is affecting and emotional.” — The Music

“Charm of Finches make gorgeous chamber pop…their harmonies are immaculate and stirring as they move through an honest and, well, charming lyric.” – Tone Deaf

BreathingUndrewater300
Hailing from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, NSW, vocal trio, Breathing Underwater, has been singing together quite literally since they were small children. Hardly surprising, since the group consists of Aurora Li, aged 16, her younger sister, Tessa McKay, 13, and their 13 year-old cousin, Magnus Blomquist. Despite their youth, the three already have a string of performances behind them, including appearances at Katoomba Live and Local Festival, the Blue Mountains Winter Magic Festival, Narragunnawali Festival of Music and were featured artists at PULSE 2019 at the Sydney Opera House. Aurora Li’s lyrically perceptive songs have been described as ‘sophisticated beyond her years’ as she takes her audience on an emotional ride through the highs and lows of life through her eyes. Throw in Magnus, Tessa, some fresh arrangements and lush harmonies, and you have a show that always manages to hit the sweet spot.
As well as performing Aurora Li’s originals, the group enjoys an eclectic mix of pop, folk and alt country music, including Celtic-inspired, Bluegrass and some Dylan and Springsteen, and their own arrangements of contemporary artists such as Lorde, the Lumineers, Kacey Musgraves, the Paper Kites and more.

That band’s album, Green Grass Blue Grass (Compass Records 2012) is a collaboration with 14 time Grammy award winner Ricky Skaggs. It celebrates the musical connections between Irish traditional and American Appalachian music. It was awarded “Top of the World Album Award” by the prestigious U.K. world music magazine, Songlines in 2012. In 2014, a full orchestral scoring of their work was commissioned and they performed a programme with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in Jackson, Mississippi in March that year.

Earle Hitchner from the Irish Echo and Wall Street Journal in New York commented on Manus McGuire’s solo album Fiddlewings (2006) saying it “exudes class from first to last note played. Variety, virtuosity and vitality are the lasting impressions created by this recording”.

On his solo album Saffron and Blue, (2000) Bill Margeson, Music critic with The Irish American News, commented “ when the buyer purchases this album, he or she is getting in on not only a wonderful piece of work, but a musician at the peak of his powers”.

Manus will be accompanied by Ben Stephenson, a multi-instrumentalist who has risen to become one of Australia’s most sought-after Irish musicians.
Ben is an extraordinarily versatile musician, he gained a fierce reputation for his driving and subtle DADGAD guitar work. His powerful flute playing and crisp whistle sound.
Ben has performed and toured with some of the cream of Irish traditional music including the legendary piper Paddy Keenan, flute maestro Alan Doherty and fiddler Louise Phelan. An accomplished Irish flute and bodhran player, Ben is also a member of the acclaimed Australian Irish Trad Band “Trouble In The Kitchen”.

All the way from Co. Clare, Ireland, the prodigiously gifted Susan O’Neill’s soulful & husky-voiced performances are truly something to behold. Using guitar, harmonica, trumpet and a loop pedal, Susan delivers a timeless and powerful blend of the old & new. Her inspirational fusion of soulful Irish folk & her own acclaimed original material makes for an entertaining & enchanting musical experience.

Having been compared to both Adele and Florence and the Machine by Pure M, SON (Susan O Neill) from Ireland has, so early in her career, picked up many fans including U2’s Bono.
She covered U2’s Exit song for the Hot Press magazine 30-year celebration of The Joshua Tree and Bono, on hearing her version, emailed her personally ‘to the dark-eyed Susan…I love the stark rendition of Exit….your fan Bono.”

She has also supported Imelda May, Mundy, Alabama 3, Sharon Shannon, Fun Lovin Criminals, David Gray and Madness to name a few.

Her solo performances are literally mind-blowing. The amazing range of her gritty vocal combined with her superb guitar technique, her loop pedals and trumpet, make for a truly unforgettable musical experience.

Not content with mastering a unique choice of musical instruments, SON gained a BA in Music, majoring in recording techniques and minoring in the art of performance.

“Not only is she a powerhouse vocalist, a talented musician, she also knows how to get it down onto a track when it comes to the studio.” – Hot Press

Her debut album ‘Found Myself Lost’ contains some incredibly well-crafted songs and her voice sometimes soulful, sometimes brash but always beautiful, is world class. Ignore her at your peril, SON is here to stay.

Davidson-Brothers2059e250

The Davidson Brothers are considered two of Australia’s most highly driven and well respected bluegrass musicians. Hamish and Lachie were raised in the rural Victorian town of Yinnar and began performing and recording in 1998. Since then, they’ve toured the United States, Europe, appeared on the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and toured their band extensively across Australia.

Mostly self-taught, multi-Instrumentalists, both Hamish (fiddle, banjo, guitar, dobro, vocals) and Lachlan (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, vocals) became in-demand session musicians before they finished high school and as competitive teenagers they both went on to win National Bluegrass Championship titles.
Together, the Davidson Brothers have had top 10 Country Radio Singles, reached the ARIA Country Albums Chart and established the Australian Bluegrass Scholarship in 2011 to enhance a young culture and encourage acoustic musicians.

After eighteen consecutive years performing the Tamworth Country Music Festival, three Golden Guitar Awards later, Hamish and Lachie returned with their eighth studio release in April 2017, ‘All You Need Is Music’, which was recorded in Nashville and features 12 new original Bluegrass & Country tracks.

Recently, the boys were inducted by the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame into Tamworth’s prestigious Hands Of Fame monument and in 2016 they teamed up with legendary rocker Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows to collaborate in the studio and on stage, opening sold out shows in both Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The brothers have a uniquely Australian light hearted outlook on life which they use to showcase their musical ability to all unsuspecting audiences. Well known for their contemporary acoustic style the Davidson Brothers are destined to have a long-standing career on the Australian music scene.

The Davidson Brothers last performed in the Blue Mountains for the 2017 Blue Mountains Music Festival. Join them in a four piece format as they perform acoustically in this iconic space.

“All music should be this much fun.” – The Age

“The Davidson Brothers are talented fellas and awesome guys. I love what they do and I’ve really enjoyed the privilege of working with them. This album is a great one.” – Dan Sultan

“Two young blokes with all the energy and drive of their generation and an innate ability to transpose that energy to a younger audience.” – Capital News Magazine

Fusion Boutique Presents THE COCONUT KIDS (Belgium, Ireland & Adelaide!) Blue Mountains Tour
+ Special Guests BELLE JAR
live in Concert at Junction 142 Katoomba

Infectiously fun and outrageously different, The Coconut Kids are an eclectic group that defy genres and styles. They’ve been wooing audiences across Australia and beyond with their own blend of French-influenced world folk using ukulele, brass, bass, keys, violin, mandolin and powerful vocals. The kids’ unique sound will have you dancing one minute and in tears the next.

They’ve cemented themselves as festival favourites playing across Australia – Caloundra (QLD), Winter Bello (NSW), Wintermoon (QLD), Folk In Broke (NSW), Blenheim (SA), Adelaide Fringe (SA) and showcased at the globally renowned music festival South By South West in Austin, Texas earlier this year.

Downright catchy and heartfelt, and having a laugh along the way, they are riding a wave of buzz this year as they gear up for their 2018 European tour.

Catch them now while they are still playing gorgeous intimate sets!

Singer-songwriter Oliver Downes is thrilled to launch his debut album ‘ultraviolet’, with an intimate evening of acoustic song. Formerly of the Blue Mountains, now based in Melbourne, Oliver blends intricate, percussive piano playing with soaring, hummable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

Recorded following a hugely successful Pozible campaign, ‘ultraviolet’ is a lush cut of richly orchestrated chamber pop, featuring the talents of Oliver’s sister, Holly Downes (double bass) and Chris Stone (violin) of art-folk trio The String Contingent, who will join him at Hotel Blue.

Traversing territory reminiscent of artists as diverse as Ben Caplan, Radiohead or The Dirty Three, ‘ultraviolet’ offers a rich blend of dreamy ballads and exhilaratingly kinetic acoustic pop, charting a musical passage through the darkness into the light.

“Downes’ compositions and arrangements create nebulous, ethereal soundscapes, deftly woven by the tensile orchestration… Give your mind permission to wander” – The Music

Select + MAKEbeLIVE + Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
ALL OUR EXES LIVE IN TEXAS live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

+ Special Guests Miss Eileen & King Lear

Sunday 9th Oct 2016, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Things have been hotting up for All Our Exes Live in Texas, the most badass folkies around. Having completed their debut album, When We Fall, the fantasy draft of four-part harmony, indie-folk goddesses is pumped to hit the road and give you a taste of what’s to come as they premiere their new single, The Devil’s Part.
Fresh from taking the US by storm, not to mention sharing the stage with the Backstreet Boys, Passenger, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and Tiny Ruins, the Exes have been busy. They’ve been in the studio with Ryan Lewis of Macklemore fame, they’re confirmed as the national support for Boy & Bear, but most importantly they are doing what they do best: lighting up a stage near you and tantalising your earholes with songs, tales and laughter.

All Our Exes Live in Texas features Sydney’s finest singer-songwriters – Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney – here combining in four-part indie-folk heaven. On mandolin, ukulele, accordion and guitar, the Exes deliver tunes that are tastefully crafted within the context of a playful and utterly charming live show.
With four songwriters and four unique voices, the Exes make music that draws from the traditional, creating a new brand of modern folk. Fair warning: You’ll need your charisma sunnies or you’ll walk away a little bit in love.
The Exes are a powerhouse of vocals, charm and song writing prowess.

“catch them before they’re famous and only perform for royalty and astronauts” – The Brag

‘All Our Exes Live in Texas have been touring over the past couple of years selling out venues all over Australia – its hard to feel sorry for someone singing a sad song when their talent is completely blocking any feelings of pity you could ever feel – they are the most badass girl folk group ever’Hhhhappy.com

“Sweet and charming, All Our Exes Live in Texas were a festival highlight. Soaring vocal harmonies, tight melodies, an accordion and a set peppered by the girls’ random audience banter left the audience in total adoration, with a standing ovation given to them – and rightly so” – The Music

“All Our Exes Live In Texas filled the Howler bar with incredible harmonies and a folky vibe. They clearly enjoy performing, and their talent combined with their relaxed and funny banter caused the audience to instantly fall in love with them. Their accordion and mandolin accompaniment in tandem with ukulele and classical guitar adds a unique dimension to their music, ensuring everyone who sees them play won’t be able to forget them. These guys certainly make a big impression” – The AUreview

+ Special Guests Miss Eileen & King Lear

Australian Brother/Sister Indie Folk Rock duo from Melbourne also known from the Perch Creek Family Jugband.

Lear’s pulling out the braces, the red suede shoes and screen printed t-shirts, Eileen’s donning her long vintage dresses and extensive collection of odd earrings in order to bust out with their brand new folk indie rock band!

There’s something about a sibling relationship that creates the perfect musical dynamic. With indie folk duo Miss Eileen & King Lear this is certainly the case, as there is a clear sense of familiarity and warmth in their performance.

No strangers to the music industry, Eileen and Lear Hodgkins have been performing since childhood in the roots/vaudeville act The Perch Creek Family Jugband. It was one long night on the Hume Highway that the idea to form a duo was born. While cramped in an overheating tour van, the pair started writing a song line for line. They formed a melody, came up with a chord progression and had a brand new song in their hands. Since then, creative sparks have been flying and their repertoire of original songs has grown substantially.

Miss Eileen & King Lear have found themselves signed to Decibels Records with an EP on the way. “It has all fallen into place really rapidly,” says Lear. “The co writing has been really organic and although we both have rather diverse musical tastes, there is a definite thread that seems to be stringing it all together.” Eileen and Lear each lend their own unique lead vocals on songs penned both individually and collaboratively. Their songs can be epic and sweeping, fun and frivolous or anywhere in-between, and are always delivered with an honesty that is both direct and refreshing.
The duo is gearing up to release their debut EP ‘Hungry Little Heart’ in mid September. Produced by Joe Ferguson with creative direction from ARIA award winning producer Jimi Maroudas, the Sing Sing mixed and mastered EP has come up sparkling. It features a fine cast of some of Melbourne’s hottest musicians including bassist; Grant Cummerford (Jeff Lang), violinist; Alex Burkoy (Tinpan Orange), keyboardist; Silas Palmer (Women in Docs), and guitarist; Sam Cooper (Sagamore, Fraser A Gorman and Big Harvest).

The future is looking bright for Miss Eileen & King Lear as the wheels are set in motion for the release of their ‘Hungry Little Heart’ EP. With a perfect balance of sweetness and sass, they’re sure to make one hell of an impression.

SOLD OUT – FRANK YAMMA in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Sun 2nd Oct 2016

FRANK YAMMA in intimate concert

Hotel Blue, Upstairs ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 2nd October 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Frank Yamma is the voice of Australia’s Central Desert striking a chord in hearts all over the world.
He is regarded as one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters with an ability to cross cultural and musical boundaries.

Frank’s rich and deeply evocative voice, mighty songs and exceptional guitar skills, combined with his honest tales of alcohol abuse, cultural degradation and stories of his country, are spine tingling.
When he sings, you listen and travel with him. An initiated Pitjantjatjara man, Frank sings in his native language and English. A love song sung in Pitjantjatjara will make your heart sing in whatever language you speak.

His compelling album ‘Uncle’ (2014) shows the continuity of a musician that is hitting his peak with grace and conviction and is a follow up album to the critically acclaimed ‘Countryman’ (2010). ‘Countryman’ re-launched Frank’s career following a ten-year hiatus, gaining international attention, sparking extensive national and international touring.

Frank’s touring highlights include three tours to Europe since 2011, a 2014 summer tour setting hearts on fire across Canada at Calgary, Vancouver and Winnipeg folk festivals, where he shared the stage with Buffy Saint Marie and The Mekons, as well as performing a coveted spot opening for Joan Baez. Frank has performed at various Australian festivals including the 2015 Blue Mountains Music Festival where he performed with fellow musician David Bridie.

A new career defining opportunity for Frank arrived in the form of a coveted invite to perform at the foremost world music conference and trade show WOMEX ’14, held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. A spot on the WOMEX official selection showcase has not come to an Australian music act for the previous five years and it was both an honour and an acknowledgement to Frank’s unique story and music. His performance received a standing ovation from the notoriously tough crowd.

Come and see why Frank Yamma is the man everybody’s talking about in the global world music scene, performing songs from both of his acclaimed albums.

The voice grabs you first, a soulful shout of pain and yearning to connect and remember. But it’s the voice, relating hard tales with honesty and emotion that makes this a raw, stripped-back classic.” – The Independent UK

“Yamma’s rich, powerful voice resonates and is as spiritually charged as any of the songs on Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu’s solo CD or Archie Roach’s albums.” – Tony Hillier, The Australian

“A POWERFUL cry from the heart of indigenous Australia, an album that deserves consideration alongside the work of greats.” **** – The Courier Mail

“the songs… resonate with grace and power, whilst Yamma’s sense of rhythm and timing in his guitar playing is tinged with the ghosts of old time Delta bluesmen like Lead Belly and Lightnin’ Hopkins…” – Buzz Magazine UK

“… one of Australia’s most sought after indigenous artists. Yamma’s heartfelt set of husky, beautiful songs hit the AWME crowd like a sucker punch…” – Songlines /BBC3 (5 Star Review)

“Frank Yamma … received a standing ovation from a packed house” – Rhythms Magazine

ÁINE TYRRELL & The Midnight Tides in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, SUN 3rd July 2016

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with ÁINE TYRRELL and her band ‘The Midnight Tides’ live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

+ Special Guests Lime & Steel

Sunday 3rd July 2016, 3:30pm. Doors Open 5pm.

After the last Sold Out launch of ‘METRO SOCIAL’ we are very pleased to present this fabulous artist in the Blue Mountains for her ‘State of (Bus)’ Tour.

From the West Coast of Ireland to a new life on the road in a 1966 Bedford Bus in Australia… Singing her little heart out!

Áine Tyrrell’s music is a contemporary folk collision between the Ireland of generations gone, and the hope of tomorrow. Her songs are as honest as an old friend, warm and inviting, managing somehow to fuse melodies over rhythms which transport you directly into the mid 19th century, to a land hardened by atrocity, which the rest of the world had temporarily forgotten.
She is a singer songwriter with a sound that transcends the convention the title suggests, at times anything from tribal to fragile and heartbreaking and most of all immaculately crafted.

Áine’s music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition. It has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound. Ache, honesty, and elated melodies, garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floor boards to, in both celebration and protest.

Australia’s historical lineage, and love of all things Irish, stands as testament to the accolades and support she is now garnering here in her new homeland, having procured the honour of Queenscliff Music festivals ‘Emerging Talent 2014’ mantle. Along with receiving the invaluable and ongoing mentorship from our own revered songstress, Clare Bowditch as well as Shane Howard, and in the success of her own extensive tour in support of ‘Queen of Swords’ Áine’s audience has grown, captivated by this unique talent who has infiltrated hearts and minds with her voice, stories and ability to motivate even the most reluctant of audiences into raucous sing-alongs.

“Tyrrell’s irrepressible personality and indefatigable nature pervades Queen of Swords” – Rhythms Magazine Jan 2016

“Tyrrell’s songwriting talent is evident in the crafting of the lyrics in this vigorous, barely tamed LP (Queen of Swords).” – BMA Magazine

“Her voice is unmistakably Irish, in a way few singers are any more.” Irish Echo 2015

“Soul, intelligence, wit and wisdom, history and mystery and a voice that brings it all together. Don’t miss her, for fear that you might miss the very thing you need.” Shane Howard 2015

“Áine connects deeply with her music…emotionally stirring and uplifting.” National Celtic Festival

Áine will be accompanied by fellow musicians on Uilleann pipes, percussion and upright bass.

SOLD OUT – OLD MAN LUEDECKE (Canada) in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs, “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains – Sun 15th May 2016

OLD MAN LUEDECKE (Canada) in Concert

Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 15th May 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Accompanied by his trusty five-string banjo, foot stomps and hollers, his memorable melodies, poetic sense and easy charisma appeal to anyone searching for new growth from old roots.

Old Man Luedecke is the real thing, a modern-day people’s poet, travelling bard and balladeer.

From the music rich maritime province of Nova Scotia on the East coast of Canada, this two-time Juno Award-winning banjo songster is a rare type of musician. Rarer still is a singer-songwriter of such hopeful goodness.

In the tradition of solo banjo men and women of days gone by like Doc Boggs, Old Man Luedecke sings his songs accompanied only by his loving five string, foot stomps and the occasional yodel. This is a bizarre type of music Doc Boggs might have made if he’d studied poetry.
His jaunty frailing style banjo playing lends uplifting buoyancy to sometimes quite melancholy and highly unique lyrical ideas, and slots beautifully into a young market hungry for new growth from old roots.

His music has received wide acclaim across the genres in Canada, from Feist to Buck 65 who co-opted him to play banjo on one of his most famous early tracks ‘Indestructible Sam’.
His songs are melodic gems blending old time sensibilities with an unusual vision and poetic sense.
His music belies someone more than slightly ill at ease with modern life and he performs with a gentle and endearing charisma, stories littered with a canny oblique humour. He is a sly entertainer with almost a hint of contemporary vaudeville about him and he plays a mean claw hammer banjo clearly derivative of the old time and Appalachia. He’s a revelation!

SOLD OUT – THE ESCALATORS in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse, Upstairs, “Metro Social” Katoomba, Blue Mountains – Sun 8th May 2016

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with THE ESCALATORS live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

The Metropole, Upstairs “Metro Social” Cnr Gang Gang & Lurline Sts, Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 8th May 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

A night of SWING, JAZZ & SOUL in a 1930’s Boutique Lounge with the Escalators for their ‘FROM THE HIP’ Album Launch tour.

The Escalators tip their fedoras to the sophistication of Swing,
the grooves of Detroit,
the rhythmic pulse of Jamaica,
& the funk of New Orleans.

Begin with The Escalators Quartet showcasing their CD releases: a groovy blend of original songwriting & unique arrangements of classic jazz standards. In the 2nd set, a 6-piece band complete with Swinging Horns will take the night away with vintage-inspired sounds perfect for old school swing & rock’n’roll dancing.

The Escalators’ sound is a musical crossroads of creativity & inspiration that gathers fans from all points of the compass: blues lovers, jazz cats, reggae devotees, funk/soul-brothers & sisters.

The gorgeous tone of Jenny Blunden’s voice embraces you & steals your heart. Setting the scene is The Escalators’ instrumental tapestry, all parts woven with subtlety & purpose. Lachlan Mackenzie’s guitar, all harmony & texture, is draped over a rhythmic framework rich in interplay between Bradley Parson’s upright bass & the drum kit captained by Hayden Moore.
When they are joined by the Swinging Horns of David Reglar & David Cunningham, it’s time tio push the tables back & dance.

The Escalators are on the road in 2016 with a new CD “From The Hip”.
‘From The Hip’ (2016) boasts 5 original compositions that show this outfit draws on a deep well of creativity, fed by their swing, soul & reggae roots. They also honour the originators on two jazz standards.
The lead single ‘Open Fire’ is currently receiving airplay across the country & reached #1 on the Triple J Unearthed ‘Roots’ Chart.
‘From The Hip’ is a major leap forward in song writing & defining the band’s sound, recorded with a ‘live-in-the-studio’ philosophy on the South Coast & in the hills behind Byron Bay.

Debut release ‘Felix’ (2014) set a course for the band by acknowledging their influences: Classic songs from the ‘30s to the ‘60s infused with fresh flavours from all corners of their record collection.
The release of ‘Felix’ saw the band tour along the East Coast to perform at the Noosa Jazz Festival in 2015, and have their version of ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ make ‘The Best of 2015’ (Soulscope, Northside Radio).

‘From The Hip’ is currently touring the ACT & South-East NSW, with invitations to perform in Melbourne, Regional Victoria, Regional NSW, and return to Queensland for a second tour later in the year.

For this performance they will be joined by ‘The Swinging Horns’ David Reglar (tenor sax) and David Cunningham (trumpet).
Set 1 – Quartet showcasing tracks from their CD releases.
Set 2 – The Escalators ‘Swing & Soul Revue’ featuring a 6-piece band playing great dance music from the 30s to the 60s.

SCOTT COOK (Canada) in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs, “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains, SUN 6th March 2016

SCOTT COOK (Canada) in Concert
+ Special Guests Chris Gillespie and Cameron James Henderson

Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 6th March 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Edmonton’s Scott Cook has managed to distil the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse.

His 2013 release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track ‘Pass It Along’ won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him “one of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers”.
He released his fifth DIY album, ‘Go Long’, in the summer of 2015, embarking on another around-the-world tour in support of it.
All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

This will be Scott’s third Australian tour and he is here to perform at Woodford Folk Festival along with a number of other summer festivals.

“One of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers… beautifully written lyrics, intricate chordal patterns and a refreshing plain-spoken vocal clarity… there isn’t a bad song on here. 4 stars.” – Emily Saxton, Maverick Country, UK

“Scott Cook has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voice, that at the same time intones the rigors of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on.” – David Francey, 3x Juno-winning songwriter

“Lyrically I think he’s up there with the likes of Prine or Smither as well as contemporaries like Adam Carroll and (fellow Canadian) Old Man Luedecke… It has the feeling of someone retelling their favourite stories… Remember that Prine fella I was talking about? Yeah, that one.” – No Depression

“As hard-working a DIY songwriter as any in the game… A Scott Cook song contains the extra work done by a carpenter who cares. Work the carpenter doesn’t have to do. Work only other carpenters will likely even notice… One of the best songwriters this country has. A working artist who’s taken enormous risks in order to make something which offers strength to anyone who takes the time to listen… I believe that over the years this album will prove to be a benchmark in Canadian folk music, as well as a signpost pointing the way for younger artists. I believe that young songwriters will write better songs because of it.” – Corin Raymond, Raymond Unrushed

“4 stars. Rich in plainspoken, poetic expression… Unapologetically honest words and music crafted from a keen observer’s perspective” – Donald Teplyske, Lonesome Road Review

“There’s nothing flash about Canada’s Cook. He sings his heart and soul, and in doing so lets light flood into your own… He has a good eye for imagery, a gentle human touch, a wry sense of humour, a whole lot of integrity, a warm, rugged voice and a bunch of memorable lines… Truly one of Woody Guthrie’s children.” – David Burke, R2 Magazine, UK

Guests will be in for a real treat with a performance from local Australian Folk artist Chris Gillespie from 5-6:15pm in the lounge as well!

Chris Gillespie is an independent artist from the Blue Mountains of NSW. His songs are beautiful, bursting with observational yearning. “A fingerpickin’, harmonica playing troubadour…

“Sydney’s answer to Bob Dylan” (Dave Regos – FBi Radio). Gillespie is renowned by his audience and peers for his songwriting craft, especially his lyrics – “Chris Gillespie is definitely one of those timeless songsmiths” – Joe Gould, (The Crooked Fiddle Band).

You can expect beautiful instrumentation coupled with meaningful and thought provoking words and “…harmonies [that] are downright gorgeous” (Tom Ballard Triple J).

The music is very Australian, highly original and delivered with refreshing honesty and integrity.
Chris Gillespie enjoyed a very busy and abundantly successful 2012 with the release of his debut album ‘Unnatural Light’. The title track spent months in the top 20 of the Triple J Unearthed charts. The song was used as the soundtrack to a short film, which was aired on Channel 9. Chris also performed live on Foxtel and was the opening act for Triple J favourite and Australian Idol finalist Lisa Mitchell.
“It’s difficult for any independent acoustic artist to make a name for themselves in the shadow of the likes of Josh Pyke and John Butler. Yet somehow Chris Gillespie pulls this off with an earthy, unadorned and folksy panache… [He] creates an intoxicatingly addictive blend of country-infused folk rock that is at once familiar and unique” (Peter Walsh Rave Magazine, Brisbane).

Chris will be accompanied by Cameron James Henderson (on bass)
Cameron is an original blues/folk songwriter/guitar player from Sydney. His dynamic tunes have deep respect for the old, yet his lyrics and arrangements are fresh and raw.
Cameron refined his sound playing sideman in various bands for years as well as studying classical guitar and doing composing and session work in professional orchestras, theatre and television. Cameron is also the guitar player from Dubious Blues Trio and Vanessa Raspa and the Zombie Cats.

MITCH GRAINGER in Concert at Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Sun 22nd Nov 2015

MITCH GRAINGER in Concert

Hotel Blue, Upstairs “Live At The Attic” Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 22nd November 2015, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

US-Based world-renowned blues harmonica player & Australian roots-music troubadour previously of The Beefs, Bondi Cigars & Papa Lips. Mitch returns to Australia in 2015, on tour to follow up his award winning album ‘The Blues’.

A master of the blues harp, singer and guitarist, Grainger cut his teeth with Harry Vanda, Alex Lloyd, Bondi Cigars and Papa Lips before re-locating stateside, where he plays harp on sessions from LA to Nashville. In this hi-tech world Mitch Grainger is now collaborating with artists from Hollywood to Botswana, while teaching people from all walks of life around the globe how to play their first ever note on the blues harp, though his wildly successful youtube channel.

After taking up the harmonica at age 14 inspired by a dream, Mitch was introduced to Little Walter and within 6 months was performing Blues ‘n’ Roots music 3 nights a week across Inner Sydney on both the Guitar and Harmonica in THE BEEFS with Australian soon to be pop star ALEX LLOYD. After THE BEEFS disbanded (despite much industry attention) Mitch was recruited by the BONDI CIGARS in 1992 and put to work playing hard hitting blues guitar and harmonica across the length and breadth of Australia’s states and territories, from Broome to Launceston. This was a formative period in Mitch’s life, what he calls his “university degree in rock n roll”. He lived almost constantly on the road, in a new town, playing in front of a new crowd.

In 1994 after 2 years and one Album (After Closing Time), Mitch left the BONDI CIGARS and formed PAPA LIPS with his sister KARA GRAINGER, DECLAN KELLY, ROWAN LANE, DANNY GUERRERO and CLAYTON DOLEY. Together they created a sensation “Greater than when Lenny Cravitz re-discovered the wah wah pedal” (Michael Smith, Drum Media, Sydney). The band recorded “Harmony” (1996) and “High Time Now” (1998), toured constantly, and played Australia’s premier music festivals, including WOODFORD and BYRON BAY BLUES & ROOTS FESTIVAL numerous times.

In 2001 at the request of Atlantic, Epic, Sony and BMG records, Mitch and Kara Grainger visited New York to play showcases. Their visit coincided with the tragic September 11 terrorist attack and brought on a deep reflective period of song-writing for both Mitch and his sister, stretching over 5 years and leading them in different musical directions.
Upon hearing Mitch Grainger’s compositions written during this period, legendary Australian producer, HARRY VANDA (Vanda/Young) encouraged Mitch to record his own debut solo album “LOVE & DEMONS”, which was released in 2006.

Since his 2006 solo debut Mitch Grainger’s voice and music has been heard in movie cinemas across Japan, America & Europe in the “DECEMBER BOYS” movie opening scene, in American and Australian NATIONAL TV SHOWS such as NASHVILLE, KILLER WOMEN, RAKE, and THE TIME OF OUR LIVES. He has recorded countless sessions, written songs, and produced music with artists such as ROSA PULLMAN, PAPA LIPS, KARA GRAINGER, RICK PRICE, THE WRIGHTS, JOHN PAUL YOUNG and acclaimed Australian thespian, JACK THOMPSON.
Forward to today and Mitch Grainger has gained an international reputation and audience for his harmonica skills. Type “Harmonica Lessons” into YouTube, and Mitch’s video is the first one on the list.

In this hi-tech world Mitch Grainger is now collaborating with artists from Hollywood, to Botswana, while teaching people from all walks of life around the globe how to play their first ever note on the blues harp. And now, in 2015, importantly ‘The Blues’ marks a signpost of artistic and personal growth that brings Mitch out of a recording hiatus and into the spotlight.

FRANK YAMMA in Concert + Dinner at Paragon Café, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Fri 20th Nov 2015

FRANK YAMMA in concert at the iconic Paragon.
CONCERT + 3 COURSE GOURMET DINNER + A CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL + TEA/COFFEE, BISCOTTI & CHOCOLATES!

Fri 20th November 2015
Strictly limited tickets!

May 12th, 2013 marked the commencement of Margret RoadKnight’s Golden Jubilee (celebrating 50 years of professional performance) and concluded in April 2014 with her Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Folk Festival.

“…as much as for her impressive voice and choice of songs, RoadKnight is delightful because she sheds so much fresh light on the nature of the world and its people”Oakland Tribune, San Francisco

“Margret RoadKnight’s success depends on the original way she presents other people’s material. She is alive, warm, charming, extremely funny and a stunning musician”Melbourne Voice

Paragon’s Chef David Povelsen spent his first 4 years working at Solitary which saw the restaurant maintain it’s coveted position as a ‘one hatter’ in the Good Food Guide. In 2007 David realised a chef’s dream when Solitary attained 2 hats and was one of only 2 two-hatted restaurants in the state.
We are delighted to be able to include David and his talented culinary skills in these unique experience events at the Historic Paragon Café.

The seasonal special event MENU will be an alternate drop, unless guests advise the cafe of preferences prior to the evening of the event. Please note that vegetarian options are also available by prior order.
