Davidson-Brothers2059e250

The Davidson Brothers are considered two of Australia’s most highly driven and well respected bluegrass musicians. Hamish and Lachie were raised in the rural Victorian town of Yinnar and began performing and recording in 1998. Since then, they’ve toured the United States, Europe, appeared on the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and toured their band extensively across Australia.

Mostly self-taught, multi-Instrumentalists, both Hamish (fiddle, banjo, guitar, dobro, vocals) and Lachlan (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, vocals) became in-demand session musicians before they finished high school and as competitive teenagers they both went on to win National Bluegrass Championship titles.
Together, the Davidson Brothers have had top 10 Country Radio Singles, reached the ARIA Country Albums Chart and established the Australian Bluegrass Scholarship in 2011 to enhance a young culture and encourage acoustic musicians.

After eighteen consecutive years performing the Tamworth Country Music Festival, three Golden Guitar Awards later, Hamish and Lachie returned with their eighth studio release in April 2017, ‘All You Need Is Music’, which was recorded in Nashville and features 12 new original Bluegrass & Country tracks.

Recently, the boys were inducted by the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame into Tamworth’s prestigious Hands Of Fame monument and in 2016 they teamed up with legendary rocker Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows to collaborate in the studio and on stage, opening sold out shows in both Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The brothers have a uniquely Australian light hearted outlook on life which they use to showcase their musical ability to all unsuspecting audiences. Well known for their contemporary acoustic style the Davidson Brothers are destined to have a long-standing career on the Australian music scene.

The Davidson Brothers last performed in the Blue Mountains for the 2017 Blue Mountains Music Festival. Join them in a four piece format as they perform acoustically in this iconic space.

“All music should be this much fun.” – The Age

“The Davidson Brothers are talented fellas and awesome guys. I love what they do and I’ve really enjoyed the privilege of working with them. This album is a great one.” – Dan Sultan

“Two young blokes with all the energy and drive of their generation and an innate ability to transpose that energy to a younger audience.” – Capital News Magazine

FRANK YAMMA in intimate concert

Hotel Blue, Upstairs ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sunday 2nd October 2016, 6:30pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Frank Yamma is the voice of Australia’s Central Desert striking a chord in hearts all over the world.
He is regarded as one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters with an ability to cross cultural and musical boundaries.

Frank’s rich and deeply evocative voice, mighty songs and exceptional guitar skills, combined with his honest tales of alcohol abuse, cultural degradation and stories of his country, are spine tingling.
When he sings, you listen and travel with him. An initiated Pitjantjatjara man, Frank sings in his native language and English. A love song sung in Pitjantjatjara will make your heart sing in whatever language you speak.

His compelling album ‘Uncle’ (2014) shows the continuity of a musician that is hitting his peak with grace and conviction and is a follow up album to the critically acclaimed ‘Countryman’ (2010). ‘Countryman’ re-launched Frank’s career following a ten-year hiatus, gaining international attention, sparking extensive national and international touring.

Frank’s touring highlights include three tours to Europe since 2011, a 2014 summer tour setting hearts on fire across Canada at Calgary, Vancouver and Winnipeg folk festivals, where he shared the stage with Buffy Saint Marie and The Mekons, as well as performing a coveted spot opening for Joan Baez. Frank has performed at various Australian festivals including the 2015 Blue Mountains Music Festival where he performed with fellow musician David Bridie.

A new career defining opportunity for Frank arrived in the form of a coveted invite to perform at the foremost world music conference and trade show WOMEX ’14, held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. A spot on the WOMEX official selection showcase has not come to an Australian music act for the previous five years and it was both an honour and an acknowledgement to Frank’s unique story and music. His performance received a standing ovation from the notoriously tough crowd.

Come and see why Frank Yamma is the man everybody’s talking about in the global world music scene, performing songs from both of his acclaimed albums.

The voice grabs you first, a soulful shout of pain and yearning to connect and remember. But it’s the voice, relating hard tales with honesty and emotion that makes this a raw, stripped-back classic.” – The Independent UK

“Yamma’s rich, powerful voice resonates and is as spiritually charged as any of the songs on Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu’s solo CD or Archie Roach’s albums.” – Tony Hillier, The Australian

“A POWERFUL cry from the heart of indigenous Australia, an album that deserves consideration alongside the work of greats.” **** – The Courier Mail

“the songs… resonate with grace and power, whilst Yamma’s sense of rhythm and timing in his guitar playing is tinged with the ghosts of old time Delta bluesmen like Lead Belly and Lightnin’ Hopkins…” – Buzz Magazine UK

“… one of Australia’s most sought after indigenous artists. Yamma’s heartfelt set of husky, beautiful songs hit the AWME crowd like a sucker punch…” – Songlines /BBC3 (5 Star Review)

“Frank Yamma … received a standing ovation from a packed house” – Rhythms Magazine

SOLD OUT – DON MCGLASHAN (NZ) in Concert + Dinner at Paragon Café, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Fri 20th May 2016

DON MCGLASHAN (NZ) in concert at the iconic Paragon.

CONCERT + CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL + 3 COURSE GOURMET DINNER + TEA/COFFEE, BISCOTTI & CHOCOLATES!

Fri 20th May 2016
Strictly limited tickets!

Don McGlashan is recognised as one of New Zealand’s foremost songwriters, artists and performers, with five entries in APRA New Zealand’s “Top 100 Songs Of All Time”.
His career spans from the seminal post-pop-punk band Blam Blam Blam, to art experimentalists The Front Lawn, to platinum selling and internationally recognised band The Mutton Birds.
He has worked and performed with Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Johnny Marr, Wilco, Brian Ritchie and members of Radiohead and has scored a number of feature films, including Jane Campion’s “An Angel At My Table”.

McGlashan’s songs have been described by Q Magazine as ‘from the same cerebral power-pop mother lode as Big Star and early REM’.

He returns to Australia to unveil a rich new collection of highly personal songs (“Lucky Stars”) exploring love, regret and mortality, infused with optimism and joy.

McGlashan started the raw material for this new album at a little house on the Thames Estuary, then realised them in Neil Finn’s writing room at Roundhead Studio with guitarist Tom Rodwell. He produced them with former Mutton Birds bandmate David Long, (who also contributes some textural guitar, organ and banjo) and drummer Chris O’Connor. “I went away, imagining that I would write a rather solitary, introspective record, but what came out had a lot more joy and optimism than I expected.”

‘Lucky Stars’ contains many songs which are very personal reflections on McGlashan’s own life and thoughts: “This time, I don’t seem to be adopting characters to get an idea across… the ‘I’ is generally me in these songs”. And unlike previous solo or Mutton Birds albums, these songs enjoy a simpler and more direct sound, while spinning some very engaging yarns.

“…all the hallmarks of his singular style are in place — the spine-tingling way he moves from major to minor keys, his keenly observational eye, the thoughtfulness with which his songs are forged… No one else gets close to writing songs like that, and making them work”. – METRO MAG

CONCERT + CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL + 3 COURSE GOURMET DINNER + TEA/COFFEE, BISCOTTI & CHOCOLATES!

Fri 22nd April 2016
Strictly limited tickets!

Kristin Hersh is a founding member of the band Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave as well as having had an extensive and influential solo career.

Kristin Hersh returns to Australia, her home away from home, to perform material from across her catalogue interspersed with readings from her latest book  “Don’t Suck, Don’t Die”.

“Don’t Suck, Don’t Die – Giving Up Vic Chesnutt” is a memoir of her good friend, US singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt who sadly took his own life in 2009.
“Friend, asshole, angel, mutant,” is the way that Kristin describes Chesnutt, a quadriplegic who could play only simple chords on his guitar but nevertheless recorded seventeen critically acclaimed albums and was named among the top five best living songwriters by NPR before his death. Hersh chronicles her friendship with Chesnutt in a book that shares insights into both their mutual bond and the pain and creativity that haunted Chesnutt. Hersh offers the most personal, empathetic look at the creative genius and often-tormented life of Chesnutt that is ever likely to be written.

Her memoir “Rat Girl” was widely praised from the New York Times to Rolling Stone which named it one of the top ten rock memoirs ever written.

Praise for “Don’t Suck, Don’t Die”
“Not only one of the best books this year, it’s one of the most beautiful rock memoirs ever written.” – Michael Shaub, NPR’s Best Books of 2015
“A Stunning, difficult and beautiful chronicle. The true Vic comes alive.” – Michael Stipe (REM)
“(Hersh’s) observations… always ring with a harsh lyrical truth….an eloquent, breathtaking testament.” – Pitchfork
“A raw, poetic memoir….a last, wonderful example of Chesnutt at his most charismatically mischievous.” – The Guardian
“It paints a more honest, insightful picture of the late singer-songwriter than any biography could…Beautifully, poetically told.” – MOJO
“The book’s great sadness is matched by the skill and vitality of Hersh’s writing; it will make treasured and troubled reading for fans of Chesnutt and the author alike.” – Kirkus Reviews

I’ve been blessed with seeing and hearing a lot of talented musicians in my life, but I have never experienced anyone quite like Irish Mythen. She is a force of nature and a gift from Almighty Herself.” –  Lisa Schwartz, Philadelphia Folk Festival

Alturas are a quintet specialising in the performance of contemporary tango music with distinct jazz influences.
Inspired by the music of Argentina, ‘Alturas’ combines influences from classical, latin and tango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos.

‘Alturas’ have been performing as a group since 2009. The group started as a duo with Gaye Thomas (flute/bandoneon) and Jane Andino (piano). They have over the years grown to become a quintet, performing throughout Eastern Australia. Members also include Inge Courtney-Haentjes (violin/ viola), Greg Gibson (sax/clarinet), and Stan Valacos (Bass). The group have performed twice for the National Argentine Day celebrations in Canberra, at the request of the Argentinean Embassy.

With a constantly expanding repertoire, Alturas push boundaries with unique re-workings of traditional tangos, along with stunning arrangements of Piazzolla, Ziegler, Egozcue and contemporary composers including several tango-inspired original pieces.

“An absolute pleasure to play Alturas. Congratulations on a beautiful sounding album.” – Robbie Buck, The Inside Sleeve, Radio National

“I get a lot of CDs and my ears perked up when I heard yours.” – Lucky Oceans, The Daily Planet, Radio National.

Following on from their debut CD, ‘Café con Tango’, Alturas are currently recording their second CD ‘sin palabras’ which moves further into the genre of jazz and includes works from Venezuela and Brazil as well as many Argentinean classics.
They will be embarking on an album launch tour from May 2015.

SOLD OUT – BARRY MORGAN’S WORLD OF ORGANS Home Organ Party Experience Tour – Concert + Dinner at Paragon Café, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Sun 4th Oct 2015

***SOLD OUT***

Sun 4th October 2015
Strictly limited tickets!

Barry Morgan (As Seen on Spicks and Specks) in an intimate concert and dinner package at the iconic Paragon, Katoomba, Blue Mountains.

Barry Morgan puts the Boss in Bossa Nova, the Yes in Polyester, he’s the patron saint of the safari suit: he’s Barry Morgan, and is the celebrity organ salesman who is wooing audiences with the golden syrup sounds of his vintage 1980s, Hammond Aurora Classic.

Barry Morgan is packing up his Toyota Crown, strapping the Hammond Organ to the roof and hitting the road to fulfil his personal mission to not only share the ‘Joy Of The Organ’ but to educate.
Barry will entertain, amaze and thrill audiences as he demonstrates all there is to know about hosting your very own organ party.

The rich and rollicking musical sounds of the Hammond are projected from a classic veneer speaker cabinet and the impressive array of the organ’s keys, buttons and lights are caught on Barry’s cockpit cam and displayed on screen as he performs. Barry’s enthusiastic manner, contagious smile and musical skill all help convey his deep love of organs.
With enough cheese to match his infectious smile, the organ’s various sounds and features are exploited by Barry to achieve velvet tones, luscious lounge, exotic tangos, and grooves “as modern as tomorrow”. Barry’s hilarious performance creates an utterly charming visual and aural experience that cannot be resisted.

Performed by musician Stephen Teakle, Barry Morgan was plucked from obscurity to appear on ABC’s Spicks and Specks where he became an instant audience favourite. He was voted the third best Spicks and Specks moment in 2011 and trended #2 on Twitter after his Spicks and Specks Finale appearance. Barry has also graced our screens on Gordon Street Tonight, The Marngrook Footy Show and on ABC’s New Years Eve Pub Quiz.

Barry has sold out live shows at Melbourne Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth Fringe, the famous Spiegeltent; and performed to adoring young crowds at Homebake and Falls Festival. In 2012, Barry travelled overseas to demonstrate his organ at NZ Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe.

A career highlight to date was touring with international superstar Gotye, and Barry also showed through the release of his own album “The Touch of You” (2012) that he is not just one of Australia’s most entertaining performers, but one of its most accomplished musicians.

Barry will be demonstrating his famous One Finger Method where you can experience the safest way to get the most out of an organ with just one finger!

Barry always likes to dress to impress so come along music lovers, don your best safari suit or evening gown, bring your friends and get down with Barry Morgan and his ultimate Home Organ Party Experience!

Don’t miss out on tickets to the Barry Morgan’s World of Organ’s Home Organ Party Tour – get in quick or miss out.

MIC CONWAY & ROBBIE LONG in Concert + Dinner at Paragon Café, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Fri 7th Aug 2015

MIC CONWAY & ROBBIE LONG in concert at the iconic Paragon.
(CONCERT + 3 COURSE GOURMET DINNER + A GLASS OF MULLED WINE + TEA/COFFEE, BISCOTTI & CHOCOLATES!)

Fri 7th August 2015
Strictly limited tickets!

Mic Conway & Robbie Long in an intimate performance of music, magic and more!

In a circus of comedy, music and magic, Mic Conway and flat-picking guitar champion Robbie Long present a hilarious array of idiosyncratic songs that will make your jaw drop, toes tap and sides split.

ARIA award-winning Mic Conway is a singer, actor, musician, song writer, fire eater, magician, tap dancer, juggler and more. Audiences who know Mic from his days with “Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band” and Circus Oz will be delighted by this incarnation: Mic as storyteller of tall tales and true. There are new songs and some oldies close to Conway’s heart. He croons “It’s Only a Paper Moon” and a heart-breaking version of “Mad World”, dispenses good advice in “Never Bite a Married Woman on the Thigh” and revisits Captain Matchbox classic “My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes” and Tom Lehrer’s “Masochism Tango”.

There’s magic, juggling, cavorting and that trademark tongue-in-cheek sense of humour. Stripped back, irreverent, and shameless… it’s surreal vaudeville for crooning and swooning.

MusicOz award winning songwriter Rosie McDonald has a strong rhythmic drive on acoustic guitar, bouzouki and percussion and a rich alto voice to lead us into the stories from the folk and blues traditions as well as providing harmonic interplay with Ann’s vocals. Multi – talented songstress Ann Palumbo is a jazz influenced soprano who has been immersed variously in the tango, indie and classical scenes as performer – guitar, mandolin and double bass – and composer with tales to tell but with her roots and stories firmly in folk music.

Classically trained and with a passion for Bach and Handel, Paul Laszlo has played with the SSO, MSO, OABO, and the Australian Festival Orchestra among others but has with a jazz/improv bent and a leaning towards traditional American mountain music. Paul’s rich baritone voice, banjo and virtuosic bass playing brings great depth and soul to RAPT.

Among the highlights of their time together so far, are performances in 2013 including Europe – Geneva, Paris and London, Snowy Mountains Fest, Turning Wave Fest, Mudfest International Film Fest, Dungog and Northern Beach’s festivals, The Basement in Sydney and the Clarendon in Katoomba. Other highlights have included Camelot and the Basement in 2012, the 2011 Human Rights Awards and various other concerts and festivals including the Cygnet festival in 2014 with their other ensemble project “When Mother Comes To Visit”

November 2014 saw the release of their long awaited recording, which has been received very warmly with ABC airplay to boot.

“RAPT have a repertoire of brilliant tunes and are an enlivening performance trio, crafting a night of magic, which results in an audience that pleads more, more, more” – Shack Management

“RAPT lifted the acoustic roof of The Shack last time they performed here”

“It was brilliant… the audience at the Old Courthouse Glebe was mesmerised… by the performance.” – Dr E. David Mcintosh.AM

‘Progressive Bluegrass’, ‘New Acoustic’, ‘Newgrass’. Call it what you will, String Theories do everything they can with Dobro, Guitar, Mandolin and Violin.

With Glenn Skarratt on Guitar and Mandolin, James Church on Dobro and Simon Watts on Violin and Viola, String Theories explore the boundaries of ‘New Acoustic’ music.
Largely instrumental and inspired by great acoustic players such as Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer, the trio play music drawing on broad influences reminiscent of Classical, Jazz rock, Bluegrass, Irish and more, but falls in neither category. Both highly structured and highly improvised, they challenge themselves with each piece to create a wide scope of musical.
