+ Special Guests LE HOT CLUB DE KATOOMBA TRIO
Live in Concert at the Baroque Room, Carrington Hotel

Friday 14th February 2020, 8pm. Doors Open 7pm.

Venue: BAROQUE ROOM 15 Katoomba St
– NEW ENTRY VIA THE CARRINGTON HOTEL DRIVEWAY –
Katoomba, NSW 2780 Blue Mountains.

Fusion Boutique is extremely pleased to present THE TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD ORCHESTRA (Canada) in the Blue Mountains for their first Australian Tour. This trip sees them perform at Illawara and Cygnet Folk Festivals and other select dates.

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra are a collection of musicians, linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties. From ballads and sing-alongs to high-energy dance parties, they have spent years telling their stories with guitars and violins, with accordions and bass, with melodies and music makers gleaned from their wanderings. The band is from a sparsely populated region of Canada’s West Coast. They travel community to community, bringing people together at halls on the Gulf Islands, barns in the prairies, kitchen parties in towns, clubs in the cities and festivals all summer long.

Their music weaves a multicultural Canadian tapestry: Roots, Eastern European Dance Party, Jazz, Bluegrass, Flamenco, African, Latin, Celtic, Métis, Rock, Gospel, Blues, Canadiana while the band represents an eclectic background – German Mennonite, Chinese, Dutch, Scottish and Métis. These troubadours remind you that this music could not exist without warm bodies in search of harmony.

MANUS McGUIRE – Irish Master Fiddle Player
with BEN STEPHENSON (Guitar & Flute)

Live in Concert at Pigeon Lane @ ONE88

Sunday 15th December 2019, 7pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Manus McGuire is an acclaimed Irish fiddle player whose exceptional musical gift became widely recognised in 1970 when he won the prestigious Fiddler of Dooney, an Irish national fiddle competition at age 14.
He has performed with Buttons and Bows, Moving Cloud, Brock McGuire Band, and with his brother Seamus McGuire.

McGuire is honoured to have been voted “Male Irish Traditional Musician of the Year in the U.S.” in 2006 by the Irish American News in Chicago and to have received the Bravo Award from Trad Magazine in France in 2007.

Manus continues to perform and teach fiddle music at the highest level, primarily in the United States and this year alone, he has taught fiddle at Swannanoa NC and at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA in addition to performing a series of spring concerts for the Irish American Cultural Institute. He continues to support the links between Irish Music and its historical journey into the United States.

Brock McGuire Band which he co-founded in 2000 was awarded “Irish instrumental band of the decade” by the Irish American News. That band’s album, Green Grass Blue Grass (Compass Records 2012) is a collaboration with 14 time Grammy award winner Ricky Skaggs. It celebrates the musical connections between Irish traditional and American Appalachian music. It was awarded “Top of the World Album Award” by the prestigious U.K. world music magazine, Songlines in 2012. In 2014, a full orchestral scoring of their work was commissioned and they performed a programme with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in Jackson, Mississippi in March that year.

Earle Hitchner from the Irish Echo and Wall Street Journal in New York commented on Manus McGuire’s solo album Fiddlewings (2006) saying it “exudes class from first to last note played. Variety, virtuosity and vitality are the lasting impressions created by this recording”.

On his solo album Saffron and Blue, (2000) Bill Margeson, Music critic with The Irish American News, commented “ when the buyer purchases this album, he or she is getting in on not only a wonderful piece of work, but a musician at the peak of his powers”.

Manus will be accompanied by Ben Stephenson, a multi-instrumentalist who has risen to become one of Australia’s most sought-after Irish musicians.
Ben is an extraordinarily versatile musician, he gained a fierce reputation for his driving and subtle DADGAD guitar work. His powerful flute playing and crisp whistle sound.

The Crooked Fiddle Band return to Katoomba to launch their brand new album!

Another Subtle Atom Bomb takes the band’s blistering violin-led live show and creates soundtracks to their feelings around climate change.
From angsty and furious folk tunes to fantastical imagined worlds full of ecstatic hope, this is The Crooked Fiddle Band’s most personal album yet.
The band’s last show before an 18 month recording break was in Katoomba, so they can’t wait to return for a wild night to show you what they’ve been cooking up!

The mesmerising and fiery acoustic 4-piece that is THE CROOKED FIDDLE BAND deliver high-energy Chainsaw Future-Folk. Post-Apocalyptic World Music. Celtic Energy. Swamp-Stomping Hoe down. Dance-Inciting Mayhem. Hardcore Gypsy Passion!

The Crooked Fiddle Band formed in 2006 through their mutual love of the energy and intensity of various traditional world music. Whilst writing and arranging, they discovered that this energy was shared by the other music they love: there seems to be a common thread between the frenetic accompaniment of gypsy, klezmer and punk rock; between the twisting rhythms of math-metal and balkan folk; between the clear tonalities of Scandinavian folk, Celtic folk, and cinematic post rock.

All these influences went into the mix, but what came out was The Crooked Fiddle Band. The sound they love is dark and often driving, but also writhing and ecstatic. They have jumped around with whirling crowds at festivals, bars and dirty warehouse parties throughout Europe and Australia and also played their more cinematic sounds in the Opera Theatre of the Sydney Opera House.
From whirling dances to intense battle-scene climaxes, this four-piece spurs the dance floor into a post-apocalyptic hoe down.

This music they have sometimes called ‘chainsaw folk’ – even though they are pro-conservation – but others have called it “14th century Romanian metal”, “thrash folk”, “whirlwind gypsy” and even “what Sepultura would sound like if they provided the soundtrack to a hyperactive version of O Brother Where Art Thou.” So whilst the search continues for a name for their genre, they are mainly concerned with making music with melody, energy and intensity.

Driven by the beautiful and furious fiddling of Jess Randall (also on Lennart Lovdin Nyckelharpa), and underpinned by a rhythm section featuring Gordon Wallace (Gilet guitar, a Wheeler Custom Lutherie guizouki and a Fylde mandolin and cittern), Mark Stevens (double bass, Appalachian dulcimer, charango) and Joe Gould (drum kit, hand percussion, garbage bin, vocals) the Crooked Fiddle Band sound blasts, rocks and grooves to the point of dementia, compelling listeners into a joyous frenzy.

Their music has been described by Brian Eno as “…completely surprising: the music is original and quixotic. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything else like it!”

“This band really is a national treasure and testament to the infinite talent that keeps manifesting in our backyard… this group have re-invented folk music as it is known… The Crooked Fiddle Band charmed the audience into submission.” – Vanessa Lahey, Australian Stage

“When The Crooked Fiddle Band took to the stage, it was as though someone had put 10,000 volts through the dance floor.” – BEAT magazine.

Burralow-Band-Shot-LRG300

+ Special Guests BURRALOW

Burralow is an indie folk outfit fronted by the song writing duo, Sarah Heydon and Ryan Sheridan. Together these two hopeless-romantic songwriters have penned and orchestrated a collection of stories from life on the road and living in the Blue Mountains.
With a sound inspired from artists such as Cat Power to The Beatles, their shows are dotted with instrument changes and striking melodies.
Sarah sings and performs from behind a stripped-down drum kit and glockenspiel combination, while Ryan sings and wrangles a guitar. The band’s timbre teeters between acoustic and electric with Alex Sherdan fretting double and electric basses, Andrew Provan duelling between guitar and mandolin, and Maizy Coombes striking the fiddle.

THE SOUTH CAROLINA BROADCASTERS (USA) featuring Jackson Cunningham from The Whitetop Mountaineers in Concert at Hotel Blue Upstairs for ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains, FRI 22nd November 2019

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Live At The Attic’ with
THE SOUTH CAROLINA BROADCASTERS (USA)
Featuring Jackson Cunningham from The Whitetop Mountaineers
Live in Concert, upstairs at Hotel Blue

Friday 22nd November 2019, 7pm. Doors Open 6pm.

The South Carolina Broadcasters are the “real deal” when it comes to Old-Time Bluegrass music, or “primitive bluegrass”, as they sometimes call it. Their razor sharp harmonies, exceptional multi-instrumentation, and fabulous song selection will have listeners riveted to their seats. Wherever they perform, audiences connect with the Broadcasters through their heartfelt songs and good old-fashioned entertainment.

Their material ranges from the Old-Time mountain music of Appalachia, through Carter Family country classics, and Cajun music, to original tunes that sound like they’ve come from the past.

The trio consists of David Sheppard (guitar & vocals), Ivy Sheppard (fiddle, banjo, & vocals) and new band member, Jackson Cunningham from The Whitetop Mountaineers (mandolin, guitar, & vocals).

This is the Broadcasters’ first Australian tour, playing the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival, the Maldon Folk Festival and MountainGrass Festival, and a number of other gigs in NSW, Victoria and the ACT. However, Jackson has toured here a number of times with The Whitetop Mountaineers, playing all the major folk festivals including Port Fairy, the National, and Blue Mountains festivals, and numerous successful gigs, including a sell-out show at The Metropole, Katoomba on their last tour here in January 2017!

“I’d like to think that if AP Carter had had more time to think about it and work things out, the Carter Family would have been singing like the Broadcasters.” – Tim O’Brien

“Clear, powerful playing. Great singing. Respect for the past, all the while setting the bar high for musicians of the future. Strong music.” – Joe Newbury

MIKE & RUTHY (USA) – FROM THE MAMMALS in Concert at Hotel Blue Upstairs for ‘Live At The Attic’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains, FRI 1st November 2019

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Live At The Attic’ with
MIKE + RUTHY (USA) – FROM THE MAMMALS
Live in Concert, upstairs at Hotel Blue

Friday 1st November 2019, 7pm. Doors Open 6pm.

Mike Merenda and Ruth Ungar are a Hudson Valley, USA based husband-and-wife duo setting the Americana/Indie-Folk scene ablaze, as a duo or with their five-piece band, The Mammals.
Singers, songwriters & storytellers, social & environmental activists, poets and parents, they tour with their children in tow, embodying a down-home approach to Americana.

Merenda is a prolific songwriter, who’s recent crowd-pleasing piece, Sunshiner, was nominated for an International Folk Music Award for Song of the Year. It is an ode to renewable energy which simultaneously honours the past and looks to the future with the sing-along lyric, “Yes my Daddy was a miner, but I’m gonna be a sunshiner.”

Ungar’s unique vocal style ranges from a capella balladry to earthy soul and country. She was raised in a folk music family and learned the fiddle at a young age.
She is carrying on her family tradition, being the daughter of legendary fiddler/composer, Jay Ungar, known for his famous composition, ‘Ashokan Farewell’ used as the theme for Ken Burns’ landmark documentary, ‘The Civil War’, which she also enjoys performing.

“Mike & Ruthy concerts blend artistry and authenticity, with fiery fiddle & banjo, emotionally potent harmonies, and dynamic stories that deepen the experience. Tap your toes and sing along as Mike & Ruthy “roam effortlessly through the whole span that is Americana, from alt-country to folk to bluegrass.” – The Bluegrass Situation

“These two will shatter any stereotypical misconceptions of what it means to be a folk musician” – The Coastal Journal

“Everything is masterfully performed as Mike Merenda and Ruthy Ungar sing about the charms of hard work, home made wine and free parking. Amid the barn dance reverie created by fiddle, pedal steel, horns and more, Ruthy’s versatile alto is the most glorious instrument of all.” – ABCnews

“Pristine” – The New York Times

“Some of the best song writing of their generation” – LA Weekly

The territory the trio covers is broad and the compass is set by Raines, planted right in the centre of the stage directing with her bass every bit as much as she’s playing it.
“Raines launches her well-tended craft off the bluegrass dock into the waters of jazz and folk, holding onto the anchor of bluegrass while pushing steadily at the boundaries of the music that engulfs her.” – Country Standard Time.
In 1998 Raines became the first woman to win IBMA’s Bass Player of the Year award and she went on to win the title more than any other bass player in the history of the organisation. She has proven herself without doubt, as an iconic bluegrass instrumentalist.

“The countless miles Raines has travelled are a gorgeous, weathered patina on her songwriting as well as the careful, intentional arrangements — and rearrangements — of these songs.” — The Bluegrass Situation

“Her latest release, Royal Traveller, not only confirms her renowned instrumental status but also announces another first, as she debuts as a songwriter, 11 tracks that both reflect and reach beyond her bluegrass roots, to touch upon indie folk, jam grass and jazz-inspired material. ” — Folk Radio UK

“It isn’t often that a song will rope me into playing it on repeat. The title track of this album [Royal Traveller] though is one of those songs.”  — Americana Highways

+ Special Guest Raechel Whitchurch

raechel-whitechurch-300

For most people, there is a point when they decide that they’d like to play an instrument or learn to sing, and what follows is years of lessons and not a lot of performing. For Raechel Whitchurch, it was exactly the opposite. She took up mandolin at the age of eight to help out in the family business. It wasn’t a hobby – it was a way to make a living. The fact that she fell in love with making music was just the cherry on top.
Raechel grew up in an eclectic family of six who travelled to the most remote parts of Australia, lived in an old, green Millard caravan, and paid their bills by playing music at pubs on the weekends. Raechel, her parents and three younger siblings travelled from town to town, performing in a country family band that was slightly left of centre. Naturally, music is all she has known for as long as she remembers.

Many years of touring and performing have earned Raechel the right to step onto a stage with a natural confidence that immediately makes you feel at ease. She shares stories of her life that are hilariously relatable, and in the next breath is able to sing a song that can break your heart in a matter of minutes. Her big personality, skilful songwriting, and sincerely raw voice, has given her the opportunity to perform with many incredible artists, such as Kasey Chambers, Lisa Mitchell and Ruby Boots.

The Chambers family have remained close friends of Raechel’s, with Bill Chambers producing her debut EP ‘Outlaw’, and Kasey Chambers featuring on one of the tracks, “Sure Thing”. The first single, “Kerobokan Blues”, is an upbeat, but lyrically dark song, sharing the story of a man retelling his final memories in jail before his death.
Because what good country record doesn’t have a song on it about being in jail.

Fusion Boutique is very pleased to announce that due to popular demand a 2nd and final show is now being held at Gallery ONE88’s fabulous little exclusive speak easy venue ‘Pigeon Lane’.
This will be a very special intimate acoustic performance.

Multi-award-winning Melbourne contemporary folk outfit, The Maes (formerly The Mae Trio) is the brainchild of sisters Maggie (banjo, guitar and vocals) and Elsie Rigby (fiddle, mandolin and vocals). Born into the arms of the Folk music community, both sisters were side of stage at their first folk festival when they were four weeks old and have been absorbing and exploring folk music since that time.

The Maes’ latest, self-titled record released in April 2019 is a return to the sisters’ folk music roots. Gentle, intimate and conversational, the album is an unadorned showcase of Maggie and Elsie’s superb songwriting as well as honest, relaxed and stunning vocal and instrumental performances.

The album was born on a two-month tour of Europe and North America in 2018 shortly after the band changed its name from The Mae Trio to The Maes after the departure of founding member Anita Hillman. The sisters started the tour with a recording session in Canada, intending to make a four track EP. Fired up by the changes in the band, inspired and bursting with new music they kept looking for new recording opportunities as the tour progressed. By the end of the tour they had two tracks from Nova Scotia, Canada, two songs from the Isle of Mull in Scotland, two songs from different studios in Ireland and four songs recorded in their hometown of Melbourne.

The album features production from top roots music producers from around the world including, Daniel Ledwell (Oh Pep!, Jenn Grant, Good Lovelies), John Fitzgerald (Christy Moore, Crooked Still, Lisa Hannigan) and Brendon Love (Teskey Brothers). The album also features cello and harmony vocals by award-winning Brisbane musician, Monique Clare who regularly tours with The Maes and will be performing at this show.

Their latest release follows on from their sophomore album, Take Care Take Cover, which was recorded in Nashville by Grammy nominated producer/engineer Erick Jaskowiak (The Waifs, Crooked Still, Darrell Scott) and featuring some of that music town’s finest roots musicians. The record won them the Age, Music Victoria Folk/Roots Album of the Year in 2017 as well as rave reviews in Australia and overseas.

Since 2014, The Maes have been full time touring in Australia and overseas, winning over audiences with their striking songwriting, intricate instrumental arrangements and stunning vocal harmonies. The band’s touring history includes a list of some of the worlds largest and most prestigious music festivals such as, the Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals in Australia, The Edmonton and Vancouver Folk Festivals in Canada, Cambridge Folk and Celtic Connections festivals in the UK and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in the USA.

“simply superb sophomore album.” – The Australian *****

“…underscores the ever growing potential these girls have to capture a truly international stage.’ – Folk Radio UK

“The Mae Trio songs are powerful, the vocal harmonies soar, and their own instrumental prowess is impressive” – Penguin Eggs

“quite simply breathtaking” – Rhythms Magazine

Blue Mountain’s based Maizy Coombes, is an endearing Violinist/Songwriter with a contemporary folk sound beneath wholesome lyricism.  Her approach to life is equal parts adorable, resourceful and sneaky, all of which is reflected brightly in her music. Using a loop pedal to support herself, this unique sound scape has the ability to bring out tears as you apply make-up or brush your teeth, yet still leave you feeling contemplative and joyous.
We first encountered Maizy’s gorgeous fiddle playing in “Lime and Steel”.

NATHAN CAVALERI + Special Guest KRISTEN LEE MORRIS in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains, SAT 29th June 2019

Nala Music & Fusion Boutique Present ‘Metro Social’ with
NATHAN CAVALERI
+ Special Guest KRISTEN LEE MORRIS
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Saturday 29th June 2019, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Much of the country was oblivious to the career Nathan Cavaleri led beyond prime-time Australia. By age 12, he found himself the centre of a bidding war between the labels of Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna. By age 16 he’d toured with B.B. King as his guest, and played at the Kennedy Centre in front of The Clintons with Etta James and Bonnie Raitt.

In 2010, Nathan’s battle with insomnia and anxiety was witnessed by thousands when he blacked out on a festival stage. Struggling to regain his confidence and drive he stepped away from his art with the expectation of never returning. Whilst the performing came to a halt, his song writing developed a far deeper level of expression with a diverse range of influences. This love of music offered him a similar type of therapy it had when he battled leukaemia as a child. Motivated by his passion to play and write, he stared down the fear of live performance and determined that it was time to make a record.

His upcoming EP ‘Demons’ stretches beyond the traditional rock, blues and roots that Cavaleri is known for.
The release of the first single ‘Demons’ marked his 6 year rise above mental health challenges and return to the stage. ‘Rising Sun’ is a track in which he pays tribute to the man that landed him his first record deal and tour at age 10, Jimmy Barnes, and is an emotive step from the profoundly beautiful title track.
This will be Nathan’s first solo release since he was signed to Michael Jackson’s label in 1994 and features songs that are a culmination of the diverse life Nathan has lived. B.B.King calling Nathan “the future of blues” is definitely an appropriate quote for how he has expanded beyond his roots.
“This time around, I wanted to express more than blues would allow. Each track throughout the writing and production process conformed to no specific genre and called upon an array of my favourite artists from J.J.Cale and B.B. King to Bowie, Lana Del Ray, and Mos Def.”

Cavaleri returns after playing sell out gigs up and down the East Coast, seeing him connect intimately with new and lifetime fans through both story and song. From how his love for music deepened during his battle with leukaemia as a kid, to a hilarious encounter with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant after playing to sixty thousand people in Zurich after Elton John.
However, it’s how he brings his experiences and songs into the present that gives audiences more than a shot of nostalgia.

+ Special Guest KRISTEN LEE MORRIS

Kristen Lee Morris has built a career on writing, singing and playing guitar in a raw and soulful fashion.
It is blues music at its core but with a freedom and range that also draws on country and folk styles. From the blues masters to Chris Whitley, Neil Young to Steve Earle – you can hear it all in Morris’ special blend.
In 2014 Morris released his well-received, Kasey Chambers-produced debut album Ruins. Morris shared stages with Chambers, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Charlie Parr, and Hayes Carll before he and partner Sarah Humphreys brought their Eagle & The Wolf collaboration to life with a rich and soulful Americana album of the same name.
2018 was the year of Hillbilly Blues, Morris’ second solo album and one that eloquently encapsulates the spirit and verve of the musician and songwriter; his raw swagger and charm in full flight. In recognition of Kristen Lee Morris’ songwriting, Henry Wagons chose the single ‘Cowboy’ as his local song of the year on Double J’s Tower Of Song.

ÁINE TYRRELL + Special Guests SMITH & JONES in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba, Blue Mountains, FRI 14th June 2019

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
ÁINE TYRRELL
+ Special Guests SMITH & JONES
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Friday 14th June 2019, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

“Tyrrell’s incredible journey is one you’d be well advised to follow… A purveyor of elegant yet seductively psychedelic folk songs….” – Iain Shedden, The Australian

“Áine Tyrell delivers anthems for humanity with her new album Return to the Sea” – HHHhappy Mag

Story is at the forefront for troubadour Áine Tyrrell whose rich song-writing practice draws deeply on her Irish roots. Her latest offering ‘Return to the Sea’ was written and recorded in her homeland but mastered and crowd funded with one boot in the red dirt of her adopted country of Australia. Fiercely independent Tyrrell is not one to bend to the demands of conventional production arrangements, and so with the help of Creative Arts Victoria, her long time musical producer Mark Stanley, and her international fan base, ‘Return To The Sea’ went rogue, recording in lounge rooms, front bars, old churches, and remote islands.

Return To The Sea has just been released with first song “In This House” gaining international attention as a finalist in the 2018 International Song-writing Competition and being used across schools in South Australia to reteach the history of colonisation. In This House along with 9 other tracks make an album that is a treasure trove of contemporary narratives and musical sojourns with a solid respect for tradition and a passion for adventure and travelling to new lands, both real, and musical. ‘Return to the Sea’ is a passionate journey as it draws from a number of styles and influences. Certainly, the traditional Irish folk is in her blood, but so too are elements of soul and rock ‘n’ roll, entwined within her lyrical testaments. ‘Return To The Sea’ is a call to arms, a siren’s wisdoms and warnings, and most importantly the soundtrack of a woman who walks her own beat.

Her unwavering passion for justice and integrity has led to her supporting current Women’s Rights and Indigenous Rights issues through performances, social media campaigning, song writing and public speaking engagements.

“‘Return to The Sea’ is about standing in power, owning your own skin and making sense of the shared responsibility we have as humans. The album embraces stories that have inspired me to do more than just sit and hope for change.” Said Tyrrell of the album.
“It is my call to arms. Many observations between Australia and Ireland are scattered through the tracks, but the one common thread is that together we rise in strength when one human experience can mirror and then shape our collective understanding and action.”

+ Special Guests SMITH & JONES

Smith & Jones are a duo from Bathurst, made up of keyboard player and vocalist Abby Smith, with guitarist and vocalist Sophie Jones. They have never been ones to follow the pack. Though classified as alt-country, their goal has never been to remain within the confines of any genre, preferring to let their sound and their songs take them where they will. Nowhere does this desire for individuality shine brighter then on their newly released second album ‘Something Worth Learning’ which is still full of the charm and joy audiences have come to expect from them This new work delicately balances themes of love and loss, friendship and isolation, emotional desire and freedom, fearlessly exploring the depths of their musical partnership with the listener by their side.

Smith & Jones’ first album, ‘Dark Gives Way’, released in 2017, was extremely well received with it’s first three singles; ‘Baby Blue’, ‘Small Town Woman’ and ‘Your Achin’ Heart’, all went to
number one on the internet’s Australian Country Radio charts and received airplay around the country.

Though their roots will always remain in the foundations of country music, their originals have found an undefinable energy of their own. Part classic country ballads, part sweet jazz standards, and often with a tongue firmly planted in their cheek, their beauty is in their harmonic simplicity and lyrical power.

“They’ve taken the path of making music that they want to hear themselves, whether it’s the catchy pop sounds as heard on the first single SecondHand Heart or Running from Something. A slice of fun with a bit of walking bass and finger snapping, singing a love letter to the “Boss” which was written after seeing him in concert: Last Night I saw Jesus. Then there’s beautiful piano ballads ”One Last Time” and “In The Middle of the Night” which could have easily echoed out around Laurel Canyon in the early ’70s.” – Pat Coomey

We are very pleased to welcome Daniel back to the Blue Mountains and after the last SOLD OUT show we advise booking early to avoid disappointment!

Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical’ – themusic.com.au

The story goes that the young Australian singer, songwriter and one-of-a-kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a five-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing solo wherever he could, honing his craft and developing what would become the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road.

The next several years saw him traversing North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand and of course, his homeland Australia playing such festivals as California WorldFest, Winnipeg Folk Fest, Vancouver and Mariposa Folk (Canada), Belgium’s Labadoux Festival and Australia’s Woodford, Falls Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and the legendary Byron Bay Bluesfest. He has toured and shared stages with Jake Shimabukuro, Jesse Cook, Roderigo Y Gabriela, Richard Shindell, The Ragbirds, The Waifs, Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, INXS, John Butler, KT Tunstall and Ani DiFranco.

As one reviewer recently wrote, “still in his early twenties, the distances he has been would be more frequently associated with veterans of the Folk scene” – The Dwarf

Daniel has accomplished all of this while writing, producing and independently releasing two Eps, Gypsy Moon Volumes 1 and 2, his first long player ‘Pint of Mystery’ (2011) ‘My Own Design’ (2009), ‘Wide Eyed and Open’ (2010), ‘Real Live’ (2012), and ‘The Heartland Hurricanes’ (2014). His latest release “Fault Lines” is available now, and is receiving airplay and accolades globally.
A review of his two Gypsy Moon releases said the following: “Champagne has gone a step further this time, it’s like he’s realised his own potential, his confidence is sky-high and he’s truly ready to explore” – Australia’s roots music bible Rhythms Magazine

He is now regarded as a leading light in acoustic music, with a firm reputation for making festivals buzz, holding crowds in his palm, dropping jaws and breaking guitars wherever he goes. Daniel Champagne has relocated to North America where he continues his exciting career as an international touring and recording artist.

Australian singer-songwriter Archie Roach’s music speaks the stories of his people, of this land and of the human condition. His voice – uniquely Australian and undeniably universal – continues to resonate for us all.

Archie emerged in the early ’90s. His ARIA-winning debut album, Charcoal Lane, was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 50 albums of 1992. It centred around Archie’s heartbreaking song, ‘Took the Children Away’.
The song was a deeply affecting ballad about his own experience as one of the “Stolen Generations” of First Nations children who were often forcibly removed from their parents and communities and placed in non-indigenous institutions and homes.
The song’s impact was immediate. It went on to receive a Human Rights Achievement Award; the first time such an honour had been bestowed upon a songwriter and in 2013 it was added to the National Film and Sound Archive’s Sounds of Australia collection.

Archie’s career has spanned three decades. His work has been recognised locally and internationally. He has shared the stage with some of the world’s most iconic artists, including the late Leonard Cohen, Rodriguez, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Billy Bragg, Paul Simon, Joan Armatrading, Suzanne Vega and Patti Smith.

Archie will be performing songs from his new 3 CD box set of recent live shows, Into the Bloodstream 2012; Let Love Rule 2016 and Dancing With My Spirit 2018, marking the first time Archie has released recordings of his live concerts.

Archie has faced his fair share of difficulties over recent years. In early 2010 his long-time partner, collaborator and soul mate Ruby Hunter passed suddenly. He suffered a serious stroke in late 2010 followed by lung cancer surgery in 2012. Despite these challenges Archie continues to draw strength and healing from his music.

SCOTTISH FOLK: ALAN REID (ex-Battlefield Band) and ROB van SANTE + Special Guests WOMBATS CROSSING in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, FRI 28th September 2018

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
SCOTTISH FOLK:
ALAN REID (ex-Battlefield Band) and ROB van SANTE
+ Special Guests WOMBATS CROSSING
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Friday 28th September 2018, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Alan Reid was a vital member of Battlefield Band from its inception in 1969 till his departure in 2010. In that time he toured all over the world and made almost 30 recordings with the band, working with such artists as Garrison Keillor, Van Morrison and Mike Oldfield. They won awards in Germany, Britain and the U.S. and throughout Alan was at the heart of the band, his keyboards underpinning the bagpipes and the fiddle. In being the first to use keyboards as an integral part of a traditional folk band Alan’s contribution to the band’s story has ensured its stature in Scottish culture as well as its influence on many of today’s Celtic musicians.
Alan’s singing has long been respected by his peers and his song writing has grown in stature ever since the 1980s when his songs first appeared in the band repertoire, lyrical songs steeped in history, strong in storytelling and rich in melody.

Dutch born Rob van Sante is a guitarist of skill and subtlety and a highly respected singer with a wealth of experience playing with a variety of prominent English folk and Celtic musicians.
His mother was a child prodigy on piano so it is no surprise that music has played an important part in his life.
Rob has appeared on many albums displaying his virtuoso vocal ability both as a lead and harmony singer, also showcasing his undoubted instrumental skills to a variety of projects. All these strands come together to make a perfect foil to Alan and his music.

Alan & Rob present an evening of old and new music, featuring Alan’s compositions, Battlefield Band favourites and songs from Rob. The show combines open tuned lead and accompaniment guitar work from Rob, Alan’s keyboard, guitar and accordion and fine harmony singing from both.

“Alan Reid…a singing voice which comes over as effortless, and undoubted ability as a songwriter. His emotion filled ‘The Road of Tears’ one of the highlights” – THE PERTHSHIRE ADVERTISER
“Robber Barons by Alan Reid, a song of quiet and thoughtful fury rather than furious polemic…” – ROBIN DENSELOW, BBC
“Rob van Sante provides beautiful guitar backing…with gentle passion eliciting harmonies and driving rhythms…delivering songs with heartfelt sincerity” – THE BEAT MAGAZINE, LONDON, ONTARIO

“Few guitarists can present Celtic music with the gusto and nuance they possess when played on fiddles or bagpipes. Tony McManus is one of those few.” – Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Conjuring a unique but universal language from that most ubiquitous of instruments, the acoustic guitar, Tony McManus has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, his fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora, along with still further-ranging flavours, such as jazz and east European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres.

McManus’s first, self-titled album was released in 1996 to widespread critical acclaim. This was followed by Pourquoi Quebec in 1999 which led to worldwide recognition. However, it was with the release of Ceol More in 2002 that Tony’s stature as a first class musician reached a new level. Critics hailed the focussed, spell-binding nature of the music, from the plaintive Jewish hymn “Shalom Aleichem” to the ingenious arrangement of the Charles Mingus classic “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”. Having been nominated as Musician of the Year by both the BBC Folk Awards and The Scottish Traditional Music awards, in 2002 “Ceol More” hit the Critic’s Album of the year list in Acoustic Guitar magazine and named “Live Ireland Awards” Album of the Year.
His 2009 release “The Maker’s Mark” saw him showcase 15 of the finest luthier built guitars available and caught the attention of the mainstream rock guitar press in a way that acoustic work rarely does.
Never one to be typecast, Tony’s new album “Mysterious Boundaries” is his most ambitious to date. An encouraging challenge from mandolin virtuoso Mike Marshall to learn the Bach E Major Prelude on guitar led to an exploration of classical and baroque. McManus has produced a work of great originality and beauty, hailed by his peers as “a masterpiece” – Renbourn, “beyond beautiful… it’s PERFECT!” – Tommy Emmanuel.

Tony’s latest collaboration is with partner, fiddle and guitar player Julia Toaspern, a native of Berlin and a successful musician in her own right. Julia will be guesting with Tony on his latest Australian tour post his appearances at the prestigious 2018 Adelaide Guitar Festival.

Martin Foote is a gifted guitarist from the Blue Mountains of NSW, who plays with a passion and flair that turns heads whenever he takes to the stage.
Growing up in a musical family, Martin began playing guitar at the age of ten, taught by his father, Nigel Foote, who gave him a strong foundation in folk-blues fingerpicking styles. After meeting the guitarists Joe Robinson and Michael Fix, Martin was encouraged to study the instrumental works and guitar styles of the legendary Tommy Emmanuel.
Over the next few years, Martin attended Emmanuel’s workshop and two residential guitar camps, at the end of which he performed Classical Gas together with Tommy.
Martin’s EP, ‘Moving On’ was released at the Blue Mountains Music Festival in March 2018.

+ Special Guest KARL-CHRISTOPH

After growing up in the small town of Mulgoa, Karl has spent nine years on the road busking, writing and milking life for what it’s worth. He’s supported artists such as Matt Corby, Bec Sandridge, Tigertown, Lydia (USA) and Little Earthquake; frequenting many popular venues across Australia, from Melbourne to Adelaide, Sydney to the far North Coast.
With over three hundred songs penned, a thirst for self producing, and a recent move to the very top of the Blue Mountains; 2017 saw Karl renovating and building a studio in his wood cabin as well as beginning to record his first proper debut record. Karl has hunted down radio airplay with tracks such as “Melbourne” receiving airtime on Triple J’s ‘Roots and All’; and Dark Horses receiving airtime on ‘The Pines’ on FBI. Many of his other tracks have received high rotation airplay on Triple J Unearthed radio including “Statues in Paris,” “Dark Horses,” “Seconds to get Away” and his newest release “Now You’re Gone.”
One to watch if you enjoy lyrical folk, soundtracks for your road trip or some tunes to break your heart while you drink.

Featuring a rich tapestry of plucked strings, lush vocal harmonies, highly original songs and a diverse range of influences from The Beach Boys to Bach, Diamond Duck is an exciting new collaboration between Sydney mandolinist and song writer Jimmy Daley (The Morrisons, Sanctuary Band, Tawny Owl String band) and Canadian born guitarist, vocalist and song writer Brian Campeau (Green Mohair Suits, Rescue Ships).

2018 sees the release of their highly anticipated debut recording with an east coast tour through May to celebrate…
“Evoking the close harmony singing of the Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel, Diamond Duck explore an unusual, almost twisted sound in their accompaniment while maintaining a sweetness in their vocal delivery…there is something a little off kilter and it’s absolutely delicious” – Timber & Steel.

SHAUN KIRK ‘Howlin at the Moon’ Single Release Tour + Special Guest ANDIE in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, SUN 4th March 2018

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
SHAUN KIRK
‘Howlin at the Moon’ Single Release Tour
+ Special Guest ANDIE
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Sunday 4th March 2018, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Following the recent success of his Australian ‘Midnight in Motion’ Tour which saw award winning blues/soul troubadour Shaun Kirk selling out numerous headline shows across the country; the one man dynamo has announced a stack of new tour dates across Australia & New Zealand to launch his soon to be released new single ‘Howlin at the Moon’.

Kirk’s first release in over 3 years will come off the back of what the 29 year old describes as a “quarter-life crisis” ignited by a US Record Deal that fell through in questionable circumstances back in 2015. Determined to overcome his disappointment and grow from it, Kirk has since spent countless hours soul searching and honing his skills as a writer and musician inside his home studio on the outskirts of Melbourne; prevailing with a fresh new sound and groove to carry him into the next phase of his ever evolving career.

Recorded and co-produced with Nick Huggins (Jen Cloher, Fraser A Gorman, Skipping Girl Vinegar) at A Pocket Full of Stones Studios in the sleepy beachside town of Point Lonsdale, Victoria and co-written with ARIA Award Winner Joel Quatermain (Eskimo Joe) – ‘Howlin at the Moon’ is set to drop in early 2018.

Shaun Kirk has an energy that is unique, with a hybrid of musical styles that challenge genre classification, his shows are nothing short of an experience.”Diesel

“One of the most explosive solo acts this country has to offer.”Mixdown Magazine

“A truly hot new artist on the blues scene”Peter Noble (Director of Bluesfest)

“One of the finest blues voices this country has ever heard!”Buzz Magazine

CASS EAGER & THE VELVET ROPE + Special Guest ANDIE in Concert at The Metropole Guesthouse Upstairs for ‘Metro Social’ Katoomba Blue Mountains, SUN 22nd October 2017

Fusion Boutique Presents ‘Metro Social’ with
CASS EAGER & THE VELVET ROPE
‘Ain’t No Stopping Me’ Tour
+ Special Guest ANDIE
Live in Concert at the 1930’s Metropole Guesthouse.

Sunday 22nd October 2017, 6pm. Doors Open 5pm.

Named by folk-blog Timber and Steel as ‘Janis Joplin and Ben Harper’s love-child’, Cass Eager’s mix of raw soul, husky blues and light-hearted ditties are all punctuated with her unique whisky-soaked vocals. Emotive, slightly raspy, at times tender and at times powerful, Cass’ authentic voice is always the driving force of her music.

Internationally renowned but defiantly grassroots, Cass Eager is one of those rare artists that’s mastered everything from the foot-stomping blues to a sensual slow burner. She’s been called ‘one of the best female singers in Australia’ by Richard Glover (ABC), ’the girl with the golden voice’ (Daily Examiner), and Diesel claims ‘she has a voice so sweet she could sing the phone book and you wouldn’t get bored’.

Eager’s music has taken her to some of the world’s most far-flung places. She’s done several ‘tours of duty’ entertaining Australian troops, from The Middle East to East Timor (with Paul Kelly and Peter Garrett). She’s toured through North America and Canada – alone with her acoustic guitar; alongside Ash Grunwald; and with US musician Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo; ex-Wilco). She performed for Prince Harry during his Australian visit, and after being invited back for a repeat performance, ended up giving the prince guitar lessons.

More recently, Cass supported Michael Franti & Spearhead on their 2015 Bluesfest tour, sat in with Alabama-native Kristy Lee’s Bluesfest sideshows and played alongside G. Love & Special Sauce and JJ Grey & Mofro. 2016 saw her perform with Canadian artist Irish Mythen at Bluesfest and national dates.

A finalist for Best Group and Best Female Vocalist in the Australian Blues ‘Chain’ Awards and Best Blues/Roots Artist in the MusicOz Awards, Cass’ EP ‘Down On My Knees’ was voted one of the ‘Top 10 Albums’ of the year in Rhythms Magazine.

Cass Eager has a brand new beat and she’s hitting the road with her band this October to send new single ‘Ain’t No Stopping Me’ off into the world.

Strange Daddy produced the new track, which is somewhat of a stylistic departure from Cass’ previous work. Lyrically, it’s a testament to her resolve, and sonically it has a vintage Motown charm that hints at an Amy Winehouse swagger but sounds like she’d be more at home drinking tequila with Elle King. As always, Cass has got “more soul than heaven on a busy day”. (Brag)

Her voice carries like the wind and slams you right in your gut where you want it to. She also loves a good story and a good laugh, and her shows are just as much about heart-warming and entertaining tales as they are about the music.

Some artists take a hiatus to write, some to travel, and others to re-ignite their creative inspiration. Cass Eager has done something a little more pragmatic with her recent years, and the result is two small children, Hank and Lois. But she’s back – better than ever – and ready to tell the world to step aside with her new single.

“One to watch” – Sam Fell, Rhythms
